And the antithesis to this song was probably "Sorry, No Words" by The Usual Gang (as they called themselves in 1980) on a certain disco-parody record. There weren't supposed to be lyrics to THAT song (so the singer hints at), but, lo, there they are anyways. [According to Richard DeBartolo, good-condition copies of that EP still exist after over 30 years.]
This is great. There are no actual lyrics. The singer was scatting to keep the rhythm on an early take and they decided to keep them. Been driving folks crazy for decades. Brilliant!!!
@lxswrx I tried to convince the officials at the high school I attended that gibberish was, in fact, a legitmate means of communication (a false claim) which I was quite well versed in and could speak fluently (a very true claim) to get out of taking the two year language reguirement (another true claim). To back these claims up I pointed out that they - the school officials with whom I was conversing - understood me perfectly fine - they didn't buy it.
These are the real lyrics... "Said to the bartender "Best night I ever had" Singin' to the bar Had a microphone (in)to her heart I said - Goodbye madam I'd had a bird in hand I said - I'm doing good And put love in her heart"
The show's creator kept the song as-is for two reasons: 1) He thought it would be a great satire of how many rock songs at the time had incomprehensible lyrics, and 2) he knew that CBS would have announcer talking over the closing credits anyway, so why bother writing real lyrics for the song?
There's no "poodles", more like "I put the rock n roll in her heart", but that first verse does sound like Microphone is used instead. It's one of the best TV songs ever
According to the guy who sang on the closing credits, the words weren't decipherable because they didn't have to be. Back when WKRP originally aired, networks would use the closing credits of shows to announce upcoming programs so most of the music during the scroll was drowned out save maybe the very beginning and very end.
I was obsessed with this song when I was a young viking . Beastons the closest but I thought I heard " Six in the morning with a microphone in our hearts " . Its all indecephirable though .
Excellent Upload, even got the cat meow at the end...lol

That sounds like a 74 Marshall amplifier.

I think the meow sound is actually from a dog.

Hey, this is what is being said:
"Said to the bartender "
Best night I ever had"
Singin' to the bar
Had a microphone (in)to her heart I said - Goodbye madam I'd had a bird in hand I said - I'm doing good And put love in her heart"

Went to this bartender thirsty tonight, uh yeah
Said to her good morning and a microphone in her heart
I said – goodbye madam I've had a bird in hand
I said – I'm doin' good and put love in her heart
(first line "thirsty tonight" could be "Thursday night")

And for all of that, Beaston's lyrics fit what I hear, and -- unlike every other set of lyrics I've ever seen -- actually *make sense*.
Whether that's what he's singing or not, good job, dude.

So what was the title of this song & whose the actual artist that sang it - if any? Could've been a huge AOR hit if it ever got released.

I never watched the show, but I always tuned in to see the end credits because of this song, and the kitten at the end.

Nonsensical lyrics with a catchy rockin' beat ... don't no better than that, microphones in my heart and poodles aside.

That may very well be, but I was not being serious with my video.
Dukklord 2 years ago
@Dukklord I still think his copied lyrics are not correct, but it's good to see the variations played in time with the song to see what best works

@beaston So then who is the artist?

Reallly funny! But isn't it, "I wouldn't do it... if a poodle had a lid on it!"?

someone else did that, I didn't want to copy them
