@NoStress90s Fords very rarely need fuel pumps - so be certain, check the wiring harness especially under/beside the driver's seat and along the driver's door. The wiring to the fuel pump tends to rot out there. I've been in the biz going on 11 years now and have never replaced a ford pump. They just don't die. Did a 1990 T-bird pump, turned out it wasn't the problem. It was the wiring, all green and rotted. Try powering the pump at its connector under the car I bet it'll work. Good Luck!
Well, I owned that car for 20 years, sold it 2 years ago to a fellow in Montreal. The car did win 3 class championship and was a great track day car, has long has the brakes were kept cool Some of you posted things about if there were mods on the car. A few, but not many and nothing fancy. With Kumho Rs, would get 1.14G. I really miss this car, but I still have my 86 Comp Prep SVO.
yeah all svt cobras from 99 to 04 had independant rear suspension based off the crown victoria suspension... kinda gay but it bolted up to the mustang chassis (fox chassis 79-04) with little problem that's why it was used, LOW COST!!!
Because every other sports car has IRS expcet for the mustang lol which is prob why you said it. Even to this day the 2010 Mustang still uses a Live Rear Axle.
FYI. Shouldn't advertise, but my mother's 84 SVO is for sale in Leesburg, FL. 33k est miles. Great shape and goes like stink. Not the fastest in a straight line but extremely quick in the twistys....
dude i love these cars, i got one for my 16th birthday a couple months ago, i would drive up to the schools parking lot and my friends say they never seen i mustang like that before. and thats why i like it its just so rare and unique a 4 cylinder turbo kickass
I had one of these in Silver. People would always be looking at me trying to figure out what the hell I was driving. Huh? A mustang with a rear double spoiler?
The great thing about these cars is that they ywere so far ahead of their time. Quad shock rears Adjustable Konis all around from the factory. They were built for racing so it doesnt surprise me that it autox's well. In 86 Car and Driver put it against the Ferrari 308 and a 944. It out handled them both. Nice Car.
The quad shocks actually didn't appear until around mid December '83 production. Prior to that, they had "slapper" style traction bars that IMO worked better than quads. My '84 SVO is early production with slappers and doesn't wheel hop at all compared to my '89 GT with quads that did.
I'm not exactly a huge mustang fan, but I was impressed watching this. I'm a sucker for pretty much any limited production vehicle. Does your SVO have suspension mods cause it looks like it handled excellently. Sounded great and looked fast a heck!
I have an early 85 that looks similar except mine has quad shocks. I have eibach pro kit springs and it sits exactly like this. On the svo with these springs the front tucks a little of the tire in the fender due to the perches in the lower control arms that were different than other mustangs.
Noticed that it was an early model with the slappers. Looks like it's got some mods. Lotta camber and sitting a bit lower than stock. Wish I had the space for another car...
Suspension mods? They have better suspension under them than most cars built 25 years later. I see the one in the video is a pre-December '84 1C model with slappers....just like mine.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
not sure you know this, but 25 years later than that car would be about 6-8 years into the future... i'm pretty sure there are cars with better suspension right now, and also quite a few 6-8 years from now that can beat that wobbly piece of shit.
Not sure if YOU know this, but the SVO design was finalized and production ready by '83. Apparently 24 years isn't close enough to 25 for know-nothings looking to correct everyone who posts something. BTW, 8 years from now is 2015. 2015-25=1990. 1990 is 4 years after SVO production stopped. It helps if you know what you're talking about before you try to make someone look stupid and instead prove that you are.
im about to buy one for $1000 the guy is selling it cheap cuz it needs a fuel pump. ill post a video soon

@jdakers15 Crown Vics have always had Live Axle just like the mustang, and still do. The IRS was from the Thunderbird.

@jdakers15 Same with the later models, they opp for lousy backends to stay in the price range.

Good suspension and Tires + the 4 wheel disc brakes and IRS = one awsome handling mustang from the 80's!
Nymbler 2 years ago 2
I am almost 100% certain the SVO never had IRS. Live axle only. Upgraded with discs unlike the GT of that year.
flee2010 2 years ago 3
Yeah i just realized I said IRS.. I have no idea why I said that lol. I knew for a fact they didnt, oh well. Disregard that commetn lol.

Well other than the 99-01 and 03-04 Cobra ..but yaeh majority of mustangs a solid.
Nymbler 2 years ago
Even those Cobra's had solid rear axles.
SteelCity1981 2 years ago
No, all cobras had Idependant rear starting in 99 and went to 2004.
Nymbler 2 years ago
yeah nymbler is right, those cobras had IRS those years. Ive worked on them. Well 03/04 terminators but im pretty sure the 99-01 had it as well

Excellent. Brings back a lot of memories of my own
black, `84 SVO, which I had bought (used) back in
1986. Great handling, brakes, tough (but very noisy) engine. Easily 30mpg when cruising (up to 80 mph).
