awesome dancing and subtle is right! this type of dance is made to see in person and camera is does not catch the subtle movements. The camera likes big and flashy and Cassandra is elegant and subtle...true to the form. great teacher and great performer!
I took a workshop with Cassandra in Kingston this year and I was blown away by her!!! I walked into that workshop a very different dancer then when I came out of it!! WE NEED MORE CASSANDRA :) Fabulous dancer, amazing teacher.... And the Ghawazee workshop was to die for!!!
I took lessons with Cassandra more than twelve years ago. In this I can see how her tiny, perfect movements have become more subtle and nuanced over the years. She's also the best teacher I've ever had in ANY subject. This video illustrates a point she made in class back then about how so many American dancers dance "so hard." Egyptian and other Middle Eastern dancers tend to be more subtle.
I agree. I took lessons from her when I was in high school and I still remember her as the best, most nuanced teacher I've had. A lot of teachers I've had since then really don't compare at all. She's got gorgeous arm movements and like you said, subtleties galore.
I absolutely agree. I took a workshop with her in 2008 and she was amazing. American audiences have become so set in the idea that "BDSS" is the way belly dance should presented - the dance is getting lost in props and backflips. It's nice to see the purest form of the dance - an elegant dancer with tremendous timing, control, attitude, and ability but with subtlety and grace. My understanding is that this is the Egyptian way. Another dancer in this style is Shareen el Safy.

Great dancing. The way she dances is what I consider classic Egyptian style.
