This was a cute song and cute in the movie and well... anyone who doesn't like this does have a cold wooden heart.

  • I have no idea who translated this for him, but it doesn´t make sense in German. And it is "muss i denn" and "Schatz". But this song is still sweet. ^^

Städtele hinaus, und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier....

  • perfect song!

  • this was the first song i remember my grandma teaching me to play on any instrument but didn't know that it had words or who made it... I always thought she had just made it up lol

  • When I listen to any song by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper or Jimi Hendrix new moods and emotions come to my mind and I want to sing.

  • @TonyGognitti i'm 31 and i agree with you add Bobby Darin to your list and your a legend, old music is great now that modern music is garbage, i'm learning allsorts about old music and i love it mate.

  • Love this song and LOVE G.I. Blues! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ELVIS!!! = )

  • I love this song....

  • love.love.love.♥♥

  • I have always liked this song by Elvis. I have to give the guy credit for joining as a regular in the US Army and when, later, he brought out this song with the German words included, it blew me away. Now when I can read the words on this YouTube video and listen to Elvis sing at the same time, that blows me away again. There were some in the early days who thought E couldn't sing. I hope they at least take a listen once in a while.

  • @jaymista2

If Elvis couldn't sing, then who could?

  • such a nice,light,relaxing,soothing and entertaing song!!!!!!!

  • nice song

  • i never heard this elvis song before. but i do love elvis :)

  • 5 People have a cold wooden heart!

  • Und du mein schatz, bleibst du hier-And what about you my sweetheart, are you staying here? Believe me, I know German very well.

  • me: mom, i'm going out to beat up 5 people

    mom: all by yourself??

me: no, i got 279 people backing me up

  • 5 people are massive tools for disliking this.

  • Um is the second part sung in german by the singer himself? Is this how it's originally supposed to be?

  • @UncleBobIsAngry Yes, it's very obvious that he did sing the German part of the song, you can clearly hear his accent. And what's so weird about it anyway?! You just sing the syllables and you don't have to understand the meanings. Some people just ask dumb questions sometimes :)

  • @plomarine Nothing weird about my question and it wasnt a dumb one to be sure. I am just surprised that he sang that german bit like it was his mother tongue. =D There are so many remakes of oldies that I cant even see which one is original and which is the remake. I am just making sure this is the original sung by elvis himself.

Some people are really quick to judge sometimes. ;)

  • I never, ever tire of this. Like a grown-up Lullaby! Thanks for the lyrics too!

  • This is my girlfriends favorite song. :3 ♥ I like it, because everyone knows wooden hearts suck.

  • awesome!bravo

  • Danke - great song

  • One of my favorite songs ; )

    Greetings from Greece <33

  • Hey guys....you gotta give credit to a German-born legendary bandleader Bert Kaempfert, who co-wrote the song "Wooden Heart". Nicely done, Bert!!

  • I'm glad I dont have a wooden heart... I'd end up having splinters in my lungs... I Love this song sooo much! Elvis forever x

  • Really I don't have a wooden heart!

  • treat me nice and don't say good bye, cause i don't have a Wooden Heart.

  • That's a great song... thanks

  • Wow. Thank you so much for posting the lyrics. I have always wondered what the German words were.

  • hey there, i am from austria and "muss i denn zum städtele hinaus" means:

must i then, leave the village

and "und du mein schatz bleibst here" means:

and you, my darling stay here

this is what it really means ^^

and the original song from germany is called "muss i denn zum städtele hinaus", and was sung by the young soldiers who had to leave their beloved behind to go to war. my grandpa taught me this song when i was little, so i was surprised hearing it years later sung by elvis ^^

  • Hi from Brazil!... I know almost nothing in German but I've been listening to this song since I was a little girl (now I'm 48). Well, I just love Elvis and maybe tha's the motivation I needed to learn a little bit more of this interesting language!... THANKS A LOT FOR POSTING THE SONG WITH THE LYRICS!!! ;-)

  • @Maremarisa

  • I don't like it, I LOVE IT. <3 I hadn't heard of it until now. :) It's really, really cute. <3

  • Just love it! Sweet song. Many years ago-before tours of his mansion-I got to ride in his jeep-pink striped-like the one in that movie with Kirk Russell. Didn't meet Elvis-but he was watchin us from his window. Me, Mom and my brother. I remember thinking-gee-we can't go on the property. Elvis told his uncle-the doorman-and so, we got ride on the property in Elvises jeep!

  • @SuperSaiyan2Vegito Oh, my! Is that true, SuperSaiyan?!!! Have you, your mom and your brother really done all that was it was just a dream and now you're kind of confused?!... Sorry, just kidding. Tell us more and more about that incredible adventure of yours, please!... Regards from Brazil. ;-)

  • this song is nice but it would be better in girl's voice and the voice if the man is not at all gud

  • Muss i denn, muss i denn

    zum Städtele hinaus, Städtele hinaus,

Und du, mein Schatz, bleibst hier?

Sei mir gut, sei mir gut. Sei mir wie du wirklich sollst.

    Wie du wirklich sollst

    This means:

Must I then, must I then

go to Stadtele, go to Stadtele,

And you, my darling, stay here?

Treat me nice, treat me good, treat me like you really should, like you really should.

  • @chrissycopycat Thank you, Chrissy. I appreciate your taking the time to translate. :)

  • love this song!!!! I dont know what the language hes singing in for some of it (Im guessin german) or what it means but Its lovely

  • You got that right. This song is from the movie gi blues from 1960.

  • I love the Wooden Heart Song,

What do these words mean > Muss I Den > Zum Stadtele Hinaus >Mein schat bleibst hier ??

  • This is based on a song he learned when he was in the Army, stationed in Germany in the 50s.

  • @Follguy

my grandpa was stationed with him :D

  • @AwwSnapItsJoanie

    that is so cool!!!

  • @AwwSnapItsJoanie Really ? Did he spend much time with him ? Any stories ?

  • i'm sorry for you're granpa but is an honor

  • @AwwSnapItsJoanie Did your grandpa say he was nice?

  • Somebody else put a 5 second picture on a different production...

It features a beautiful log cabin interior complete with a huge (explitive deleted) trophy moose head hung high on a wall...

That is the picture I see when I think of 'moosy den'...

    search for it...

  • Moosey den, moosey den,

zoom, stay, delay eenows.(very soft 's' in ''eenows'' )

  • @tomwmloppe Mussi denn, mussi denn zum Staedele hinaus and you must learn better the german language :-)

  • Stedele hinous

    sounds like

    'stay, delay eenowss'

  • Sugarnellie10

    I hope this helps...

  • Oops. Wrong again...'dinous' is spelled 'hinous'...

  • ''zum stedele dinhous''...sounds like

    ''zoom ...stay,...delayed in house''

seperate the syllables between the 'e' and the 'd' in ''delayed'', and it becomes ''stay, delay din ous''...

  • This is simply one of those puzzles of a song that nobody is able to recite with any accuracy at all.

    So...

I will practice until I get it right...

    Here are a few tips...

Nobody can pronounce a different language. So try for something close...

''Mus i den'' sounds like ''Moosey Den''...

  • It is so embarrassing because i have to sing it for my Christmas play.Mind you i do enjoy singing the German bits because i am from Coventry and it is my first time i have ever learn't German lol .

  • I have to learn this song for grandparents day at our school

  • Meine schatze

  • nn è che hai rotto il mio cuore in 2........mi hai fracassato le palle.........testa di legnooooo

  • yea this song was in GI blues fuck not my type of movies but gota admit pwety mean

  • This is actually my mom and my favorite elvis song. we still have it on vinyl and my siblings and i bought her a record player and we still listen to it. She is 100% German and she loves listening to it. :D

  • I listened when I was a little girl, The king will be always alive as long as we don't forget. How could I forget all these beautifull songs.

  • I used to listen to this when I was very little. My mother had it on vinyl.

  • That was a super song

  • Thanks for posting..............I love it!

  • sekcii hoor heb m moeiteloos nagezongen zelfs de duitse stukje omg ik ben o goed:P:P moet denk ik ff zanger worden ofso

    pzz yall

  • NO PROBLEMO:-D

  • It is all ok about "GI Blues", what is not said is that Wooden Heart is bases on a sweet german song. Greetings to all!!!

  • @tupideal I think everyone knows that seeing how the movie is suppose to be in Germany

  • what a pretty song!

  • Cute ^^

  • OMG I LOVE IT.

  • Thanks for the video .

  • While Elvis was stationed in Friedberg, he could not make a movie nor was he permitted to perform. Hal Wallis, the director of G.I. Blues, used a double for the outside location shots, and Elvis was later on edited into the movie.

He sang "Wooden Heart" while playing with puppets subbing for the puppetier.

  • What is the translation of words in German?

  • Do I need, Do I need to go out to the city, to the city, and you my darling will stay here? Do I need, Do I need to go out to the city, to the city, and you my darling will stay here?

    ----

Not really german but I think:

Be good to me, be good to me, be to me like you really should, like you really should...

  • Thank you very much (I'm braziliam)

  • No problem =D

  • toll zum städtele hinaus, süß!....

  • I know German and there is no "I" in German, it would be "Ich",

  • I am German. And this song comes from southern Germany, and they say "I" instead of "ich". So it's allright.

  • What is the translation of words in German?

  • You know German? You're right in the german language we would say: "Ich" but in elvis song is that word right. Cause its in a backing to bavarian accent. You americans would speak out the "I" as an "Ai" but the bavarian people speak it out as "I" with vowel. How good can you speak german?

  • It's not Bavarian dialect it's Swabian, it's very different.

  • you don't know anything about german...shut up...

  • THIS SONG IS SO CUTE !!!!

  • A fantastic song.

    Fantastic lyrics.

    Beautiful colours.

    Perfect timing.

In two words, good work! :)

  • Thanks for the video. This really brings back memories.

  • i don't know when it was made but the movie that he sings this song is G.I. Blues. it's definitely one of my favorites of his! <3

    ELVIS LIVE FOREVER! <3

  • Wikipedia: "G.I. Blues is a 1960 Elvis Presley musical motion picture played as a romantic comedy. It was filmed while Presley was fulfilling his military service obligation with the United States Army in West Germany. It was filmed at Paramount's Hollywood studios and on location in Germany."

This sounds like a marionnette's song

  • You're So WRONG ! " G.I BLUES " , Elvis' 5th Movie , was filmed during the Summer of 1960 & released in October1960. Elvis was discharged from the U.S. Army in March 1960 after returning home from Germany. No Movies or Songs were recorded while He was serving in the Army. Hal Wallis might have shot all the outdoor locations for the movie prior to Elvis returning to the states , but Elvis was not in any of the shots. The majority of the Movie was filmed at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood
