@norsunny so true dude. garrincha also played in brazilian championship and lost to pele always. pele was also the mvp and the top scorer and garrincha was defeated 80% at their battles... pele won all his brasil national teamates and many times he humliated them. very correct. santos was a "weak team" but when Pele came around santos was transformed into the biggest club in the world ! garrincha had the great zairzinho on his side at botafogo but he did not accomplish almost nothing...cheers !!

@norsunny that is a nice story but not true and it does not change the fact that Brazil won the final,semifinal,quaterfinals and last game of first round without Pele so basically they won the world cup with out him.. Pele did score in the 1st game against Mexico but he did not really play well. Substitutes were allowed just not during the games but I feel Pele did not come back because Amarildo was playing well. He scored 2 against Spain and his team did not need Pele.

It seems over 10 years (59-69) for all their dominance, in the 45 games he missed in the national and intercontinental Leagues they lost 20 games. Overall performances were better 67% with him in the side.

@truvianni Maradona was undoubtely a great player, but Pele was far more complete. He could play in any position in the field. He was the playmaker of the team, but also scored a lot of goals and helped the defence when Brazil and Santos were attacked by the other teams.

The only players in the history of the game that can be compared to Pelé are Di Stefano, Cruyff and Beckenbauer, and even so Pelé was better than them.

@oneseirios yeah!! and i'm telling you that if pele did not have those great players he would still win the world cup. he would win 1-0, 2-1 or 2-0 like maradona did. the big brazil's scores (4-1, 4-2, 3-1 etc) were because pele had great players. if maradona had them he would win 4-0 etc too !! but he had only valdano, buruchaga and maybe 1-2 more and that's why he used to win by small scores like 2-1, 2-0 or 1-0..so, this proves that pele would still win the mundial but with smaller scores :)
