  • does this only work if your bald?

  • oh damn I thought I had to create all textures in an image editor

  • would it work if i used a picture of someone who has hair on the head?

  • Nice Vid!

If you search great free textures google for: textureblog

  • is this for game making? and if it is what programs are good for it?

  • i guess it's time to try z-brush...i play with 3d modelling my self using sketchup :)

  • nice

  • Do you kno where I can get the headbase plug-in?

  • think if you could put this in GTA o.O

  • @Zledaren i think u could when i open up gta 4 files with spark iv it show 2d lay out that gonna be made into 3d when u play the game

  • Hi nice vid man, how do I export my finished zprojected file? I finished a ball using the zproject brush, Now I need to export it as a .OBJ file. I did it but as soon as you import the .OBJ back into zbrush, all the zprojected texture is gone & only the ball shows?

    any help please?

    thanks

  • This is MADNESS!

  • how do u put in the eyes?

  • Maybe someone can help me :\ i cant find the Zproject Tool and when i import a picture with ''import Document'', zbrush changes the image by adding a red tint. Then the image is redder than normal and it will distort the result compared to the original

    thanks dudes

    peace

    ZoneTerror

  • @zoneterror : Better to use SPOTLIGHT now, search on here for more info that!!

  • @3DGameResources thanks dude ! =)

  • This is fucking incredible. What an amazing program.

  • REally nice!!!

  • God used this to make people..

  • this is great tutorial, thank you

  • the head mesh already looks like the guy

  • I have problems with the move, im on zbrush and it just paints what is behind the model not what i selecte

  • Amazing!!

  • how you created the head mesh?

  • what easy program do complite 3d face not only front

  • FUCK YOU....

  • Everytime i import my image a black image just appears instead of my actual image of a head ? does any1 know why this is ?

  • Next time can you get a less ugly person to do your modling, their is the whole net to chhose from why did you pick the ugliest you could find?

  • That's cool.

  • ....Nothing happens when I go back to draw.

  • thanks nice tutorial. where did you get the model you painted the texture onto?

  • thank you so much, I always wondered what that button was for.

  • yay! we have a 3d modeler! :D

  • the picture is a jpf file too but it wont let me import it....what do i do to make the pic portable.

  • I am new to this program. Can you create models with this program or you only sculp and paint? And can you add 3d max models in it?

  • you don't even go over where to find the draw tool this video is fucking frustrating

  • USE FACEWORX MORE EASY AND FREE

  • can you tell me please how can i make a hair for the character made by facegen program?

  • can you tell me please how can i make a hair for the character made by facegen program?

  • Where can get your head model?

  • Heyy, can you please do me a huuge favor and tell me the specs of the computer your using. ram, cpu, cooling system,

  • do you know how game designers import drawings into computer modeling programs? if you do what is it called?

  • @Klahnto you mean drawings that you draw with pencil and paper or using wacom tablet ?

  • @Klahnto ("do you know how game designers import drawings into computer modeling programs? if you do what is it called? ")

it's probably mostly done in UV (or U/V) mapping (for better mathematical/geometrical/graphical control), where you "flatten out" the mesh on a 2D plane and draw the picture according to it, also possible with different materials on one file (multi texture) - hundreds of possibilities... (Pain in the ass at the beginning - projection mapping really is a great alternative)

  • Very cool man, thanks for putting this up. Does anyone know if this feature is included in the 30 day trial?

  • Mmm... sexy model you have there. The guy I mean.

    ;)

  • superbe!

viens sur la chaîne jakepo17 voir Etienne et Jürgen lingl Rebetez,

    à bientôt ,

    Jacques

  • how did you already have a 2D face model that looked similar to the Imported photo...or did u create it?

  • @Bokuza ("how did you already have a 2D face model that looked similar to the Imported photo...or did u create it? ")

you can import the photo first and then shape a head according to the picture - prett convenient :)

  • pls make an obaMA vid. :)

  • I think you should update this tutorial video.

    Zbrush 3.5?

  • Where is the zproject tool? I dont have any of that stuff, I am using 3.5

  • search for 'ZBrush ZProject Brush' on here for mmore info...

its a brush now, its in with the standard brush, smooth brush etc

  • Anybody knows where this Zproject tool is in Zbrush 3.5 R3?

I've been looking for it for days.. -_-

  • @Symph909 search for 'ZBrush ZProject Brush'

its a brush now, its in with the standard brush, smooth brush etc

  • Found it =)

But I keep getting some weird transparency effect as I paint though.

It paints the silhouette of the subtools that are directly beneath the surface instead of painting from my image in he background.

Zadd is deselected and I only leave RGB on, the transpose tool ends are correctly set up.. checked everything but i can't figure out why i keep getting the issue.

    Any ideas?

  • it may be a good idea to select a base colour and go to 'Color>Fill Object' so it is filled with colour before you start transferring...let me know how you get on?

  • I was reading at Zbrushcentral about someone having a similar issue, it seems the geniuses at Pixologic have decided to remove the procedure explained in this video for the new versions of Zbrush, now they are incorporating a supposedly " better " way, the brush paints only what is directly beneath the surface that is being painted. that's why my underlying subtools where being painted onto the main surface of my tool and it wasn't getting the info from the picture..

  • Zbrush has a steep learning curve. Like anything it takes time to learn and master. If you are not familiar with 3d software packages I would suggest starting with 3DsMax.

  • sorry for swearing..

    but FIDLESTICKS!!

this is amazing i can't believe how easy it looks

  • Brilliant thanks so much!

  • how much does zbrush cost?

  • It appears little bit darker to me

  • hallo

  • amazing 5 star

  • Hold Shift sounds like OH SHIT on my laptop

  • heya, i have done some 3d graphics in the past, and I am really amazed by this program, but those programs would put any size resolution texture on a polygon without loss of resolution. So...

Does this program just color each individual poly / face or what? Still awesome.

  • It is Pixel data.

  • :O 5/5

  • how about the eyes???

  • @darteye1

Eyes are separate object, just sphere inside the model, and when eyes are separate object you have control over them, like animate them separately.

Sphere is easy to texture, just wrapping image over it

  • Wait so, could I like take pictures of myself and paint it onto a model and import it into a video game?

  • just like that.

  • Theoretically yes, but you would need to know how to program.

  • Pause at 4:27 LOL

    IT HAS EYES

  • just to clear thigns up for everyone , it seems the new zbrush 3.1 and up works differently to the step by step of this tut.

Question, which retains better pixel quality, using this method or making a large canvas and using zapplink. i've always wondered about painting per poly (meaning you have to subdevide to that sucker like mad to retain the image quality) or using projection master and painting to texture.

  • Mate. I'm following your tutorial to the letter, on Zbrush 3.5, I select the source pixels on the BG doc and hit draw, now when I drag my curser over the 3d head nothing happens. I know there used to be issues with UV enabled etc but I've tried these. do you know what I might be doing wrong?

  • Not sure, I havent tried it in 3.5, will have a dabble and get back to ya!!

  • In the end I went back to V3 and used the image plane script

    Phew!

I've got eighteen 3d caracatures to do and it was starting to look impossible

    thanks for all your help.

  • Glad you got it sorted, if you get time give 3D Coat a try, you can also distort the texture to match the mesh with a simple 'smear' like tool...no complicated hoops to jump through!!

  • yeah, I just did the Kurv studio's webinar on zspheres, they mentioned 3d coat.

is it a full alternative to zbrush or is it more like a one trick pony (great trick though) like road kill, is it hard to learn?

  • It can do lots of stuff ZBrush cant!! its easy to learn, in-depth documentation and videos, retopo is awesome!! its an alternative if you ask me...

  • I just tried it, I cleared the canvas (CTRL + N), imported an image, drew a sphere onto the canvas and pressed 'T' to make it editable (make sure RGB is on and ZADD is off) I then chose the 'ZProject' BRUSH from in the brushes, CTRL Clicked on an area of the background then painted on the sphere and it clones straight on fine...

  • to use a different texture, press 'T' to go out of edit mode, Clear the canvas (CTRL + N) and import another texture, draw your model on, press T, Zproject brush, CTRL click on background to set source point then draw onto object...

  • thanks for your responce. I'm still having trouble though, I import my BG image, and when i draw my sphere onto the canvas the BG image dissapears, is there a way to lock the imported image?

  • There must be a better way...I also did it by importing the image as a texture and did a 'Fill Layer' and cloned from that onto the model...there is a plugin called imageplane that might help!!

  • 1st of all - AWSOME. thanks for this tutorial I've used it in the past with good results.

    however:

I'm using Zbrush 3.5 and following your tutorial to the letter, when I draw across the face nothing hppens, do you know what i might be doin wrong?

am I suposed to delete the UVs or something?

  • Thank you for being so generous with your wisdom. I appreciate all your videos.

  • can i use this with a mouse? and where can i get an installer of this? thanks :D

  • buy it

  • give me a good reason why anyone would, or should, pay $600 for a hobby tool.

  • Depends on how 'into' your hobby you are, do model vehicle people spend $500 on a plane or car or boat? Do people who are into their cars buy $500 alloys or stereos? Things like 3D Coat can do the a similar thing for a fraction the price but nothing comes close to ZBrush...besides some of us use it everyday for work ;-)

  • If it's for work that's one thing, i think they should just make a thing that's like a non commercial hobby license for this and other programs like photoshop.

  • Most software do non-commercial or student/learning versions, just not Zbrush for some reason;-)

Try 3D Coat out if you get chance, it is pretty good, just not as slick as Zbrush but its plenty powerful enough for the hobbyist!!

  • ...And its much easier to achieve the above in 3D Coat, along with a deforming pen to distort your face texture to your head model/mesh even if its quite different!! Cool.

  • just torrent it lol, i never buy these things.

  • i have a reallly anoyying problem right, if i make somthing then save it, and open it again, later i cant edit it, like i cant move or rotate around it or anything, any help?

  • Press; Make polymesh 3D (right side at the top)

Press; Edit (left side at the top)

  • This is awesome!

  • Resident evil 4 crazy farmer flashbacks...

  • can u make models (characters) and put it into a game (fps creator)

  • Or you could use Projection method to make very more realistic texture.

  • How do you model his face?

  • Very straightforward. Thank you for making it so simple. One of the best tutorials around.

  • I'm getting the same problem that was mentioned before. In 3.1 it paints the model blue instead of transferring the jpg...

  • Holoycrap thats almost exact

  • its exact because I created the initial base model in Cinema 4D using this as a reference picture ;-)

  • Do you know how to import jpgs for zbrush on Macs? for some reason it won't allow me to.

  • yes you throw your mac out your nearest window then go buy a pc

  • ke zbrush es ese?

  • that was awsome so you can import that in a 3d game making program such as blender

  • you go to the lowest subdivision, press AutoUV's, then polypaint your model then export the model as 'obj' and the texture after doing 'colors to texture' to grab the polypaint to the texture.

  • You seem like you know alot about zbrush. Do you know if it is possible to create a head from zbrush and then somehow import if to another program for animation like blender?

  • no you cant import it directly as there will be to many ploygons for animation you would have to crate a base mesh in a program ( in your case "Blender" ) and then take the mesh into zbrush and sculpt then texture and export it as a bump map ad apply this to the base mesh and then you can render it.

    hope this helps :D

  • the power of technology

  • I know this is weird but im sure i saw this face and picture on one of the achievement pictures on the game dead rising haha, weird.

    Awesome tutorial! Thanks so much!

  • that is weird ;-) its a photo from the 3dsk resource so its very possible someone used the same pic.

  • yeah, it's a character from dead rising he's Leroy McKenna

  • Where is Zproject? I only have the modeler.

  • its the zproject BRUSH now...

  • Do I have to download it somewhere, or is "zproject BRUSH" ZBrush the program?

  • in the brushes, there's a brush called 'Zproject' its normally set on 'standard' to start with...

  • Ooh.. thanks.

  • Cool dude . i have been using zbrush for awhile now and did not know this was possible. ? Thanks for tips . good video man.

  • so could I use 3dsmax to model than zBrush to skin textures?

  • Yeah sure, just import/export in OBJ format

  • Ohh.. Haha duh. Sorry for the dumb question.

Awesome program, didnt know it even existed, I was stuck with the hard skin mapping in 3ds.

This should improve my skins 10 folds!

  • woah... now that's cool! Does anyone know if Maya has this functionality or is this only ZBrush?

  • I think you can import in to Maya from Zbrush

  • In maya you could use projection textures to bake out maps for the side and front then stitch them together in photoshop. But it's not quite as nice as this

  • wow...

  • Hey dude how do you make a perfectly detailed face for texturing?

  • how much does this cost?

  • its about $600, search for zbrush on google for more info...

  • of course. btw, i'm on zbrush 3.12 on an intel mac (leopard). i've found a plugin called 'imageplane' on pixologic (not yet available for mac) - is that something i need to have before i can import images to canvass?

  • hey, how did you import the image into zbrush in the first place. i dont seem to be able to do it. zbrush only seems to recognize psd files but even when i select a psd image it just doesnt show up on my canvass as it does on yours. why?

  • are you going to DOCUMENT>IMPORT??

  • after the image is there i import my mesh in and hit T edit mode. it acts as 2D. i cant rotate my model or move. do u know whats causeing this problem?

  • i could be more cool if you use the "matcap" function you can have the same Skin material feel than your reference picture, and you can remake the subtle details with a grey tone version of the same pic .

  • it would be fun now wouldn't it ;D

  • damn, zbrush is awesome

  • how do you export your colour texture out? could you please help me please please please.

  • texture(at the top)->export

  • I cant save document in Zbrush. Actually can save but the document is not open able. Can anyone help me. I have zb from torrents

  • if i model somthing in zbrush and then texture it in zbrush would i be able to take into 3d max??

    thankx

  • yup

  • Absolutely awesome feature. Thanks!

  • Hello friend , may be you can help me , i buy zbrush and i don´t have the left column is other version ??? how i can do ??? really thanks . . .

  • This program pwns so hard. XSI is also a good modelling tool, but this one is amazing

  • Nice man. Thanks for the tutorial

  • where is the zproject tool, i have zbrush 3.1 but i can't find it anywhere

  • Its in the brush pallette, its the last brush called "zproject" though I'm not sure it still works the same!!

  • k, i just found it before heh

  • hello friend , can you tell me where is the zproyect ??? really thanxs a hug ...

  • click brushes then hit zproject

  • Great stuff...im new to 3d. how do you get really rich texture resolution??? ive noticed a lot of 3d work lack quality while others look really rich...

  • i have problem -- where to get HEAD?!? and that mask? and how to import pics- because when i import pics- the resolution is bad! and nothing isn't nice! can someone help me

  • Hey, I like it! thanks so much.

  • lol I can't get zproject to work.

  • Wow thats really cool. Is there a way that you can export the model after texturing it like that and bring it into a program like maya?

  • make sure you export it as .obj file, and you'll be able to export it not only to maya, but to any other 3d package programs.

  • Does anybody know whether or not there is a similar tool in zBrush 2 as the zBrush 3 z-project brush?

  • No, Zproject is a Zbrush 3 only thing!!

  • Very cool tool, but why is the end result so much darker that the original texture, can that be fixed or is that just what happens?

  • Its just the shader I have on there...

  • thats awesome man, I really need to learn this kind of stuff im well into movie making.. i'll be following your guides! need to know the name of this program though so i can fix a download anyone can help me out with this one ?

  • yea torrent zbrush 3.1

  • whole time i thought it was a tutorial...

  • It is really. I didn't know how to use the zproject tool until I watched this video, and now I do..

  • Amazing, thanks.

  • no way!

    that was awesome!

i'm gonna download Zbrush immediatelly lol

  • where do u get the head tool from?

i go there but it doesn't show up

it only shows things like demohead which is not the same one ur using, dog, rhino and others

  • I made the head mesh in Cinema 4D, its not one that comes with ZBrush!!

  • where do u get the head tool from?

    can't find it

  • You rock!!!

  • cool...

  • great job mate. i was wondering, can you 'combine' zbrush with 3ds max?

like, make the model in zbrush, and animate it in 3ds max?

  • Thats exactly what most people do...export a low (ish) poly mesh from zbrush for easy rigging etc and the displacement/normal maps make it appear to have all the details of the HIGH RES version!!

  • no more unwrapping*g*

  • Too bloody right ;-)

  • Is this program hard to use?

    NICE video by the way.
