Are you all proud of your President and Democratic Congress? In order to gain votes for his crappy health bill they have sold you all out by opening the Alaska shoreline to oil drilling! And "Bailout Patty" helped!
0bamas Health Care Legislation... Do you trust his administration's? See my youtube channel page and Discover precisely why Americans points of view matters !!!
@420chronmasta republican vs democrat is just slow rot vs catastrophe. McCain would have continued us on the same path that we were on, but we wouldn't be in a record setting recession or massive government expansion that takes away your rights and your money.
So yes, McCain would have been better. ANY president is better than Obama.
So, after 9-months how that whole "hope and change" thing working for you? Unemployment past 10%, a health care bill that's going to force people to get insurance, or go to jail. A bill, by the way, that was put together behind closed door--oops, there goes transparency--and voted on at 11:00 on a Friday night. Better et your check books out, folks, if this fool thing passes the Senate.
The 10% unemployment is due to the recession which was the result of deregulation of the housing market that occured during the Bush Era. Everyone knows that, including you.
The bill was online, is online, and available for anyone to read at any time. What time the vote was cast is irrelevant.
And more importantly, none of what's in the bill is final. Quit bitching about nothing.
The latest Gallop poll shows that only 20% consider themselves to be Liberal, while over 40% consider themselves Conservative. It also shows that Independents are becoming more and more Conservative.
This health care bill is all about more government control, it has nothing to do with wanting to insure the uninsured. The people know this, which is why it was put together behind closed doors.
Independents become more liberal during a Republican incumbency and more conservative during a Democratic incumbency. What's your point?
The health care bill, as it is now, sucks. Everyone agrees, liberals and conservatives alike. But it was NOT some clandestine bill that the people never got a chance to review before it was voted on. I read both versions, they are available online. Message me if you would like a link.
i so wished u wanted change but america was voting for uniting the america and hope...
the only democrats that would change anything is Dennis Kuchinich .. but america media never focus on substance only "having a drink at bowling alley" for example
Are you referring to the ABC/Washington Post poll, the one where 23% of the respondents asked were Republicans, while 34% were Democrats? Yea, that poll has already been exposed for a fraud. Don't believe me? Scroll down to the bottom of the poll and look at the numbers yourself. It's in tiny writing, but you'll be able to see it. 23% Republicans asked, 34% Democrats. If you want real news, you need to start watching what everybody else is watching--FOX. It blows the them all away in ratings.
You're obviously a idiot. You hide behind that whole democrat vs republican/ liberal vs conservative bullshit. As you can see the Young Turks arn't about that. When the White House is in the wrong they have no hesitation in pointing that out. Where were you when Bush was dismantling your "rights and freedoms" you so called conservatives care so much about? You idiots make me sick to my stomach!
erm stone, isnt like, only 20% of the US currently desegnating itself as repub? How can you have a fair vote when you give the minority a massive amount more then the majority?
And I keep telling you; it's not the Republicans trying to stop health care legislation, nor the Democrats--it's the American people. The more that leaks out about these bills, the more the American people smell a rat; and they're letting their representatives know it.
How can something be scrutinized by "all" if it's decided behind closed doors? It may be a stupid question, but is was Obama's promise. And you cannot deny that.
Republicans didn't make the promise, Obama did. He said it many times during the campaign. But the real question is: Why were the Democrats in such a hurry to pass heal care before the August recess, and why are they now debating health care behind close doors, in the basement of the Capitol. Isn't anyone just a little curious about this?
What a stupid question. Which ever plan they think of, will be scrutinized by all regardless of designing behind closed doors or not. Delaying is the tactic of the republicans, killing any reform is their goal. Its called cutting off your nose to spite your face. They could care less about the country, they just need to kill reform or else they will be irrelevant for years to come.
No one has answered my question: Where is the transparency Obama promised in the campaign?
He said that all pending legislation would be posted online 72-hours before they came up for vote; and he also said that all pending legislation would be broadcast on CSpan. Congress has passed 9 bills since February, and not a single one of them was posted onlione, or debated on CSPAN before they were voted on. And now health care is being debated in the basement of the capitol, behind closed doors.
Wait until government run health care is passed--you'll see the lines very soon. Just look at what happened in Detroit, when the government was passing out "free" money--the fights and arrests. That will be nothing compared to what we'll see when this socialized health care is passed, except the lines and fights and arrests will be going on outside hospitals.
I don't want shit from the government, I work for a living. If I can't afford something, then so be it. At least I'll have my pride.
Liberals hate capitalism because the weaklings can't handle the heat of competition. They deny the uniqueness and differing levels of intelligence of individuals.
Hmm So the Coal miner who as worked most of his life who barly gets by paycheck by paycheck is a weak person because he cant "afford" insurance? I think his life would be easier if he didnt have to think about it, let the gov do it. If it can work in godless france and all the other european powers, it can work here too.
Thank you for explaining this. I've heard time and time again that Geitner needed to go, yet some felt he should stay because he was doing a good job. Well, guess what he's NOT. I'll admit I don't understand all this financial "gobble-de-gook" speak, but what I know in the simpler language is that we are being robbed. Talk about the US being great yet the government and the financial districts are killing us. And for what? If anything WE MADE THEM! They owe us.
They need to pay back what they've stolen. All this talk about trying to save money for retirement and they're stealing it. They need to be targeted for termination. In a sensible manner.
This is all over my head, I'm going to admit that right off. Still there has to be oversight and regulation of these financial markets. We are just going to see things continue downhill if this is what is being done 'in our name' by Congress.
Cenk starts the video with a Republican talking point(Democrats are weak). If caving in to big business makes politicians weak, than no one is weaker than Republicans. This isn't even to mention that the biggest mouths for the Republican Party never joined the service, much less fought in a war. No one has even had a chance to look at the bill and already he's talking trash about Secretary Geithner. We were looking at 20% unemployment and a depression without market intervention.
stanjz: The Republicans don't "cave in" to big business, they do their bidding for a fee. It's like saying hitmen "cave in" to the Mafia. It isn't a Republican talking point, the Democrats have been weak, it's one of the biggest hurdles to getting anything done. The Democratic party is too infected with this outdated notion of "bipartisanship," Obama is too busy "reaching across the table" to people who would rather bite his hand off.
stanjz: Case in point: the public option. The Democrats had a chance to clear the corruption out of the health care system, but they let the Republicans and their pet hysterics at the town hall meetings have their way.
No, we have to have regulation of banks and financial institutions. But we have to be very careful not to over regulate.
Rember when Barny Frank said that he was going to make sure everybody could buy a home? Well, he did it. he made the banks give loans to anybody and everybody, and look what happened. People making less than 25 grand a year, were given $100,000 loans. But when the mortgage came due, they couldn't pay it. This is what happens when the government sticks their noses too far in.
You're right, it's called the amendment process. But to amend the constitution takes a 2/3 majority vote in both the house,a and senate. That's hard to do. Which is why politicians often go around it to get their bills passed, and why we get into so much trouble when they do.
I'm not saying that the government shouldn't play a roll in things. Government has its place. But our founders designed the government to play a very limited roll, because they understood what happens when it becomes too powerful. In fact, out government was only designed to do three things: To provide for the national defense, law enforcement, and creating and maintaining roads and highways. That's it. And when we stuck to that--before the 60's--we prospered and became strong.
Capitalism is the reason you are able to post the comments you do. Your computer was made by some corporation. And capitalism is the reason why you can choose where to buy your groceries--choosing the one with the lowest prices. Done any online shopping lately? Don't you go with the best price?
You libs crack me up. You talk about how bad capitalism is, but you benefit from it just like the rest of us every single day.
so we should allow the banks to sign people up for all of these home loans and sell them to investors all over the world, offer credit default swaps, have no down payments and high variable rates, and dont worry you dont need any government regulation, the banks are self interested capitalistic firms, the free market will take care of it, the banks know what their doing, OOOOOOOOOPS!!!!, SOMETIMES IN A FREE MARKET PEOPLE CHEAT AND YOU MUST STOP THE CHEATERS BEFORE THEY LOSE OUR MONEY!
All you have to do is pay attention to the people he's chosen to surround himself with "czars", to know that he's a radical, left-wing socialists. My friends who are Democrats are seriously upset about this.
It's a proven fact that competition always benefits the consumer. And it's not a matter of how many people file for suit against doctors, it's the high premiums the doctors have to pay that's passed down to their patients.
Do not make the mistake of putting your faith and hope in government. The government solves nothing, it never has. Instead, put your faith in what made this country strong--freedom; which means free markets and the freedom to choose.
(@ stonecastle7) Adam Smith, one of the shapers of free market economics advocated for public (government owned and maintained) goods such as roads, schools, bridges etc. Lets not forget patents and copyright protection, also provided by the government, which allow people to innovate without fear of someone profiting from their ideas. I'm pretty sure government works pretty well there, or should we privatize these things as well and let the free market handle them?
Under the old Soviet Union, no one owned their own property, and no one owned their own business. All money was sent to the Kremlin; and the government, in turn, rationed back to the people what they believed the people could survive on. This was in the form of rationing coupons, and it covered everything from food to gas--and yes, health care. It wasn't called the "Iron Curtain" for nothing.
Socialism, just like communism, creats suffering. You'll see that for yourself real soon.
The bottom line is that unless we have a strong public option in the final bill all of this will be for nothing. We need to keep the pressure on so please take a moment to sign the petitions in the comment section of my profile. There are several other resources in cluding phone numbers there as well that will help you become more active. Thanks.
Norvman, very important points you are making. The reality is doctors make horrible mistakes, often because of the way hospitals operate (for instance staff not sleeping).
The problem isn't socialistic, it's monopolistic and corporatist. The AMA shouldn't be writing any rules and medical education shouldn't be so restricted and expensive.
Malpractice costs are a tiny fraction of the cost anyway.
If this health care plan is going to be so good for everyone, then why are the Democrats debating it in the basement of the Capitol, behind closed doors--and not on CSPAN like Obama promised? Why isn't the bill going to be posted online 72hrs befor it comes up for a vote, like Obama promised?
People are figuring out Obama, really fast. I have Democrat friends who are appalled at what he's turned into. I tried to warn them.
(@ stonecastle7) Many Democrats are upset because they're worry he might turn into Bush lite. I personally think it's a bit premature to etch his presidency in stone see as he hasn't done much either way.
You want to bring down health care costs? Allow insurance company's to compete across state lines. Competition always brings down cost. Second, put a cap on malpractice suits. Doctors have to pay huge premiums for this, which they then have to pass on to their patients. Next, give people tax credits so they can use the money to purchase their own insurance. Do these, and you will see an immediate drastic fall in the cost of health care. These are "free market" solutions.
(@ stonecastle7) All removing the state lines restrictions is going to do is cause a race to the bottom. The insurance companies are going to set up shop in the states with the weakest regulations and offer cheap, low protection plans to the young and health and overly priced healthcare plans for everyone else. Most states already have caps on jury awards like the "liberal paradise" of California ($250,000). Besides only a small percentage of people who are injured actually submit a case.
The Soviet Union, capitalist? Are you kidding? Please tell me you were just kidding. If you weren't, you've got to be a product of todays public school system.
(@ stonecastle7) Actually no I'm not. When the means of production were seized by the government the government behaved no different then a large corporation in the United States. They used wage labor, acquired surplus value (profit), and engaged in imperialism which are all products of capitalism. In the USSR the "socialist" government was behaving like a capitalist.
No one goes untreated in this country, no one. You walk into an emergency room, and you will be seen. You'll get a bill later, of course; life isn't free. But you will not be denied treatment.
You want to know what government run health care looks like? Look at some old footage of the Soviet Union back in the 80's--the people lined up on the street for miles waiting to just make an appointment to see a doctor. What we saw in Detroit last week, will be nothing compared to socialized health care
Uhm, those places you claim everyone gets treated? They're called ERs in poor/urban neighborhoods. And the lines are around the corner. If you let them go to standard care physicians that they currently can't afford then these people wouldn't be at the ER taking up space reserved to the emergency cases. Your politically motivated ramblings are nothing more than poorly concealed scare tactics.
(@ stonecastle7) If socialized medicine is such an evil then explain why all the other modern western nations with socialized medicine are healthier then us and pay significantly lower cost when they get treatment? We may have the best doctors but the system to get to these doctors is horrible. As for the Soviet Union, they engaged in state capitalism and weren't socialist. That's why it didn't work there. They were, ironically enough, being too capitalist and the system collapsed
Your example of socialized medicine is the Soviet Union, in its last days, 20 years ago? You're kidding right? Why not look closer, at Canada for example, now? I drive by an ER every day (and sometimes nights.) Where is that lineup you're talking about?
cable isn't a necessity. that's where your analogy fails. most people are born into poverty. if a child gets sick, and his parents can't afford to pay for health care, should he go untreated?
You're the dumb ass who watched tv too much. However, if you get unlikely and end up with colon cancer, then I would be happy to help pay for your and everyone elses treatment through my taxes.
I want to hire two more people for my business, but I can't because Obama and his cronies on the Hill want me to send the money I'd set aside to hire new people, to them. This is what is happening in America, and why our unemployment rate will continue to rise.
Leave the rich alone!! I want to work! I don't want a government check handout.
I like the rich, I want to be rich one day. And when I become rich, I'm going to buy things and build things and help provide lots of jobs. Or would you rather have me send most of what I make to the government, where they will waste it?
Poor people do not pay federal income taxes, they get it all back when they file their 1040's at the end of the year. So how can you lower taxes on people who do not pay taxes?
As a Democrat since I became of voting age, I am more and more disillusioned by their lack of will to enact effective policy. I often tell my friends about the two party system that the Republicans are stupid and the Democrats are pussies(no offense to strong women out there). I starting to think there is a conspiracy between the two parties. The Republicans propose dumb ideas and the Democrats give lip service criticism. End the end, the status quo remains the same and the Rich get richer.
I agree to me the Dems are now a Moderate Party as the Republicans are the batshit party we need like a new Progressive Party or something make it the new de facto liberal party. Just my views not gonna happen but it would be nice to see.
Obama is repeatedly going against all of his campaign promises. I feel like a damn fool for believing in him bringing real change. Obama isn't another George Bush (thank God), but he isn't the Obama he promised he would be either!
That's how I think of him, he's not Stalin as soem people think or Bush but he isn't a true Progressive either, I still prefer him to Bush but I still need to be convinced a bit more especially with my high hopes in voting for him.
The republican party is collapsing in on itself like a dying star, and subsisting only on sour grapes and envy of the democratic party right now. i love it that liberals are in power.
What does Obama know about business? Remember, before he was elected president, he was a lawyer, and politician--that's it. he never ran anything, never managed anything, and according to biographies written, never even taken a single course in economics. If he sat down right now, one on one, with the nations top business leaders, he'd be completely lost. People are beginning to wake up to the fact that Obama is nothing but a dime-a-dozen lawyer with a slick mouth.
What ever happened to transparency? Remember when Obama promised that all pending legislation would be posted online 72-hours before they came up for a vote? That hasn't happened yet. In fact, this health care idiocy is being done in the basement of the Capitol, behind closed doors.
This is what happens when you try to control the economy, the dishonest find ways around it and only the honest suffer. Democrats need to realize that no matter how good-intentioned their policies are, they will continue to fail as long as they ignore economic science.
We don't want progress from this administration. Obama's kind of progress means more government, higher taxes, and less jobs. He's a slick-talking extremist, that's all.
You are wrong about higher taxes and less jobs. However, you are right about Obama pushing for bigger government. If you were paying attention to this video clip, you would see that too little government is what got us into this situation in the fist place. There is not enough government regulation of wall street. That is why we hve all this BS about too big to fail.
Obama is a slick-talking socialists who's trying his best to destroy our free market system. Crooked? Politicians calling others crooked? Now that's a joke. Pelosi and Reed and the rest of these Democrats are as crooked as it gets.
I disagree on most of your points. While I do believe that there are plenty of democrats that have been bought and paid for by big business, I dn't think Obama is one of them. Wall street has socialized risk to the american people. That is where we get crap like too big to fail and government bail outs. Obama is trying to chage that. Big business/corrupt business is destroying this country not the president.
If Obama were a real socialist he would had nationalized the banks and heavily regulated Wall Street on day one. He is too conservative sucking up to the special interests and Rethuglicans in the useless spirit of bipartisanship.
Also if you think that "these Democrats are as crooked as it gets" you were obviously asleep and/or delusioned for the prior eight years. Or more likely in a Fixed Noise stupor.
They'll never have brains. They're Jesus freaks,Sarah Palin worshippers.Only when they get sick they run to doctors' office 'cause Jesus ain't of no help then!
I agree with the previous commenter, and with Cenk as well. Also, I'm proud to say I voted for Maria Cantwell, as she is a senator from my state- Washington State! Yup, the spine's surfin' through Congress as we speak!
HAHA...protected the country huh?Well,we're still protecting it but the sad truth is you ignorant dumbass redneck Sarah Palin followers are more dangerous for the country than Bin Laden is!Talking about malls, they're going outta business rapidly because Bush & Dick bankrupted the country by attacking the wrong nation & putting billions in their own pockets via Halliburton!
The Congress has to take the lead. Pelosi seems to be holding up her end, but Reid is pathetic. What a whiner. "I don't have a majority" then "I need 60 votes" then "I need bipartisanship". Grow a sack, Harry. You think the repubs worried about that? Do you think they gave a rats ass about bipartisanship?
Huh. Are we noticing a trend in the Obama administration yet? Down the line, everything they do is for the corporations. Everything makes the abuses they claim they are addressing worse. We've been hoodwinked again. I want Obama impeached almost as badly now as I wanted Bush impeached. What's next? Another war?
What about fighting for the Public Option? (granted, they aren't defending it strongly enough, but even mentioning it is hardly doing insurance corporations a favor)
Yeah, what about fighting for the public option? I haven't seen it. I've only heard placating talk.
Obama has talked about lots of wonderful things: Raising taxes on the wealthy and lowering them for the poor. Single payer health care. Correcting the telecom criminal and civil lawsuit immunity bill. Getting the banks in line. No doubt, he's a great talker.
I agree completely. But the problem with impeaching someone is that there's no guarantee that someone better would replace them. At the moment, I doubt Biden or anyone else would do any better. Obama's greatest problem is trying to make everyone happy. However, he seems to be giving up everything HIS voters elected him for by conceding to the Republicans and the lobbyists. He ought to make his Democrats in congress fear for their political careers for interfering with progress.
Lack of guarantee is not the reason to abandon impeaching, any more than it would be a reason not to vote. Impeaching is how you roll the dice again and make people fear for their political careers.
I do think Biden would do better, I think he's more honest, more transparent (purposely and accidentally), and more independent. He's also less hooked up - there's an easy way to verify this: look at his wealth and investments. I sure don't think he'd do worse.
It's not the Republicans or Lobbyists that's giving Obama a problem, it's the American people. Remember how they tried to rush through health care BEFORE the August recess? There was a reason for that--they didn't want the people to find out what was in it before it was signed into law. By the way, what happened to all that campaign talk about transparency?
2010 is going to be a very good year for the American people, and a very bad year for Obama.
By poor I mean working poor, people who are paying taxes.
If we lower taxes on the poor and raise them on the rich, here's what happens: we get back the middle class. I have worked for the middle class, back when they could start their own businesses. Creating a system where we shift money to the already rich and rely on them is stupid. We are seeing that system right now. You'd think we'd learn from third world countries what that does, but I guess we had to experience it for ourselves.
By the way, working for a public corporation isn't working for a rich person, it's working for stock holders. CEOs don't provide jobs, they work for stock holders also.
fair criticism coming from cenk, i do think that these executives who cause this collapse through there foolish mismangement of people money and the whole finacial system should have tough laws placed on them and there companies. At the same time, there has been and effort since january by this white house to place a whole series of new rules and efforcement on themarkets. Look things aren't gonna change over night but things are moving in the right direction
Obama should have outlawed Goldman-Sachs as a criminal enterprise and thrown both Bernancke and Paulsen in jail. It's good that Cantwell, Ron Paul, and others are exercising some spine and trying to crack down on these looters.
Besides speaking out against the Fed, he was one of the only Republicans to condemn the Iraq War and the Patriot Act and other crimes of the Bush Mafia. He's also very libertarian on most social issues.
It would depend on how you define libertarian, I guess. A 'libertarian' today isn't the same thing as a libertarian a decade. The libertarian movement has been hijacked by the Far Right just like the conservative movement has; neither term (conservative or libertarian) really means anything anymore. What libertarianism really stands for is a free enterprise system and individual liberty and they used to oppose things like the Drug War and outsourcing. Now, they're pretty much the same as the GOP
Yeah, I don't know too much about what Libertarians used to be except that they didn't like the Fed, felt income taxes were illegal, and were (and are) a favorite of white power, but they have been sucked into the corporate mind like everyone else. I may stop calling myself a liberal or progressive any more, even they seem to be blind to corporate takeover. Maybe I need to call myself a radical moderate.
Geithner was part of the corrupt financial industry and is an insider to that gang of thieves..the mess of the NY FED he was head of is still a secret because the government isn't allowed to audit any of the FED's dealings.. like Christopher Whalen said he isn't qualified to be Sec of the Treasury
im tired of democrats. they let republicans walk all over them. and then they cry about it. im tired of being a democrat. i dont like the ideals of the republicans. some of them, but not enough to switch sides. i am a part of a pussy party. i dont know what to do. :(
I know they're not, the two party system isn't set up for that. But, if you're REALLY against both parties, than don't go with either of them. Just because your team doesn't have a chance to win doesn't mean you shouldn't be on the team. Cast of vote of no confidence for either party.
Sometimes independents do win. But you don't have to go outside the party always, sometimes some of the most independent people will be within the party. Feingold and Kucinich are good examples.
Whoa, whoa, Ive been so wrapped up in everything else, I totally let this pass me by. That is the weak regulation attampt I have ever heard of. I have to do some research, this cant be right.
You're an idiot you know that right?! Your name is the most hypocritical name ever. You have ECW in your name yet you are against the DEMS? You do know Paul E Dangerously is a Democrat right? Dumbass.
Man, I saw the title of this and thought, "too late, even if they are." Then, of course, I saw that this was from back in 2009.

But the real question is: Why were the Democrats in such a hurry to pass heal care before the August recess, and why are they now debating health care behind close doors, in the basement of the Capitol. Isn't anyone just a little curious about this?
stonecastle7 2 years ago
What a stupid question. Which ever plan they think of, will be scrutinized by all regardless of designing behind closed doors or not. Delaying is the tactic of the republicans, killing any reform is their goal. Its called cutting off your nose to spite your face. They could care less about the country, they just need to kill reform or else they will be irrelevant for years to come.
jorkjica 2 years ago
No one has answered my question: Where is the transparency Obama promised in the campaign?
He said that all pending legislation would be posted online 72-hours before they came up for vote; and he also said that all pending legislation would be broadcast on CSpan. Congress has passed 9 bills since February, and not a single one of them was posted onlione, or debated on CSPAN before they were voted on. And now health care is being debated in the basement of the capitol, behind closed doors.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
you gotto be joking me if you really think either OBAMA or any republican will give you that.

The Democratic party is too infected with this outdated notion of "bipartisanship," Obama is too busy "reaching across the table" to people who would rather bite his hand off.
yerk3 2 years ago 3
stanjz: Case in point: the public option.

This is what happens when the government sticks their noses too far in.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
You're right, it's called the amendment process. But to amend the constitution takes a 2/3 majority vote in both the house,a and senate. That's hard to do. Which is why politicians often go around it to get their bills passed, and why we get into so much trouble when they do.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
I'm not saying that the government shouldn't play a roll in things. Government has its place. But our founders designed the government to play a very limited roll, because they understood what happens when it becomes too powerful. In fact, out government was only designed to do three things: To provide for the national defense, law enforcement, and creating and maintaining roads and highways. That's it. And when we stuck to that--before the 60's--we prospered and became strong.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
Our founders also knew that they didn't know everything and made the the law able to evolve to the needs of the people.

It's a proven fact that competition always benefits the consumer. And it's not a matter of how many people file for suit against doctors, it's the high premiums the doctors have to pay that's passed down to their patients.
Do not make the mistake of putting your faith and hope in government. The government solves nothing, it never has. Instead, put your faith in what made this country strong--freedom; which means free markets and the freedom to choose.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
(@ stonecastle7) Adam Smith, one of the shapers of free market economics advocated for public (government owned and maintained) goods such as roads, schools, bridges etc. Lets not forget patents and copyright protection, also provided by the government, which allow people to innovate without fear of someone profiting from their ideas. I'm pretty sure government works pretty well there, or should we privatize these things as well and let the free market handle them?
deathmetalwolf85 2 years ago 3
Under the old Soviet Union, no one owned their own property, and no one owned their own business. All money was sent to the Kremlin; and the government, in turn, rationed back to the people what they believed the people could survive on. This was in the form of rationing coupons, and it covered everything from food to gas--and yes, health care. It wasn't called the "Iron Curtain" for nothing.

People have a Right to sue... to make it hurt when they do... Doctors are wealthy people...
Why? because they opperate under a Socialistic, Totalitarian, Highly Regulated system...
Why not deregulate the Medical system...
More Doctors... More competition right?
norvman 2 years ago 2
Norvman, very important points you are making. The reality is doctors make horrible mistakes, often because of the way hospitals operate (for instance staff not sleeping).
The problem isn't socialistic, it's monopolistic and corporatist. The AMA shouldn't be writing any rules and medical education shouldn't be so restricted and expensive.
Malpractice costs are a tiny fraction of the cost anyway.

deathmetalwolf85 2 years ago
You want to bring down health care costs? Allow insurance company's to compete across state lines. Competition always brings down cost. Second, put a cap on malpractice suits. Doctors have to pay huge premiums for this, which they then have to pass on to their patients. Next, give people tax credits so they can use the money to purchase their own insurance. Do these, and you will see an immediate drastic fall in the cost of health care. These are "free market" solutions.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
(@ stonecastle7) All removing the state lines restrictions is going to do is cause a race to the bottom. The insurance companies are going to set up shop in the states with the weakest regulations and offer cheap, low protection plans to the young and health and overly priced healthcare plans for everyone else. Most states already have caps on jury awards like the "liberal paradise" of California ($250,000). Besides only a small percentage of people who are injured actually submit a case.

You want to see lines? wait until we get socialized heal care.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
No one goes untreated in this country, no one. You walk into an emergency room, and you will be seen. You'll get a bill later, of course; life isn't free. But you will not be denied treatment.
You want to know what government run health care looks like? Look at some old footage of the Soviet Union back in the 80's--the people lined up on the street for miles waiting to just make an appointment to see a doctor. What we saw in Detroit last week, will be nothing compared to socialized health care
stonecastle7 2 years ago
Uhm, those places you claim everyone gets treated? They're called ERs in poor/urban neighborhoods. And the lines are around the corner. If you let them go to standard care physicians that they currently can't afford then these people wouldn't be at the ER taking up space reserved to the emergency cases. Your politically motivated ramblings are nothing more than poorly concealed scare tactics.
Xaklyth 2 years ago 2
(@ stonecastle7) If socialized medicine is such an evil then explain why all the other modern western nations with socialized medicine are healthier then us and pay significantly lower cost when they get treatment? We may have the best doctors but the system to get to these doctors is horrible. As for the Soviet Union, they engaged in state capitalism and weren't socialist. That's why it didn't work there. They were, ironically enough, being too capitalist and the system collapsed
deathmetalwolf85 2 years ago
Your example of socialized medicine is the Soviet Union, in its last days, 20 years ago? You're kidding right? Why not look closer, at Canada for example, now? I drive by an ER every day (and sometimes nights.) Where is that lineup you're talking about?

RofLeopard 2 years ago
Yeah, what about fighting for the public option? I haven't seen it. I've only heard placating talk.
Obama has talked about lots of wonderful things: Raising taxes on the wealthy and lowering them for the poor. Single payer health care. Correcting the telecom criminal and civil lawsuit immunity bill. Getting the banks in line. No doubt, he's a great talker.
TheGiantRobot 2 years ago
I agree completely. But the problem with impeaching someone is that there's no guarantee that someone better would replace them. At the moment, I doubt Biden or anyone else would do any better. Obama's greatest problem is trying to make everyone happy. However, he seems to be giving up everything HIS voters elected him for by conceding to the Republicans and the lobbyists. He ought to make his Democrats in congress fear for their political careers for interfering with progress.
RofLeopard 2 years ago
Lack of guarantee is not the reason to abandon impeaching, any more than it would be a reason not to vote. Impeaching is how you roll the dice again and make people fear for their political careers.
I do think Biden would do better, I think he's more honest, more transparent (purposely and accidentally), and more independent. He's also less hooked up - there's an easy way to verify this: look at his wealth and investments. I sure don't think he'd do worse.
TheGiantRobot 2 years ago
It's not the Republicans or Lobbyists that's giving Obama a problem, it's the American people. Remember how they tried to rush through health care BEFORE the August recess? There was a reason for that--they didn't want the people to find out what was in it before it was signed into law. By the way, what happened to all that campaign talk about transparency?
2010 is going to be a very good year for the American people, and a very bad year for Obama.
stonecastle7 2 years ago
You can't lower taxes on poor people; they don't par federal income taxes. They file a 1041, and get a full refund.
You don't want to raise taxes on the wealthy, because they are the ones providing the jobs. Ever worked for a poor person?
stonecastle7 2 years ago
By poor I mean working poor, people who are paying taxes.
If we lower taxes on the poor and raise them on the rich, here's what happens: we get back the middle class. I have worked for the middle class, back when they could start their own businesses. Creating a system where we shift money to the already rich and rely on them is stupid. We are seeing that system right now. You'd think we'd learn from third world countries what that does, but I guess we had to experience it for ourselves.

TheGiantRobot 2 years ago

It's comical to watch "Democrats" say that Obama is on their side.
evane1989 2 years ago

im tired of democrats. they let republicans walk all over them. and then they cry about it. im tired of being a democrat. i dont like the ideals of the republicans. some of them, but not enough to switch sides. i am a part of a pussy party. i dont know what to do. :(

GO INDEPENDANT lol.
koalalauncher 2 years ago
come on independants are never going to win. i like the thought of them, but i have to pick a party that has a chance
threadysparrow 2 years ago
I know they're not, the two party system isn't set up for that. But, if you're REALLY against both parties, than don't go with either of them. Just because your team doesn't have a chance to win doesn't mean you shouldn't be on the team. Cast of vote of no confidence for either party.
koalalauncher 2 years ago
hmmm. yeah you make a good point
threadysparrow 2 years ago
Sometimes independents do win. But you don't have to go outside the party always, sometimes some of the most independent people will be within the party. Feingold and Kucinich are good examples.
TheGiantRobot 2 years ago
You could go PROGRESSIVE and join the Bull Moose Party.
Don't know if it still exists though, for I'm not a US citizen... :/
