  • I used to love this in the 70's.... and I still love it just as much today!!

  • AWB hit #40 in Billboard, 10-16-76. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • the baddest white boys ever, next to hall and oates!

  • I grew up in the 70s and this is one of the best groups that came out during this time in history their sound is clean and pure and I wish there was music such as these guys worte and sang,it brings back good memories of my childhood and the good times we once shared with other kids on the block may God bless every one of them where ever they may be today and hope they are still playing the music of our past,

  • @bshahiyd James Brown, The Godfather of Soul, heard "Pick up the pieces" and called them The Above Average Black Band. WOW! What an accolade from THE MAN!

  • music is the queen of my soul- ray

  • I love you Tasha Maria Reynolds!! You were the Queen of My Soul!!!!

  • Thank you for This Song....AWB is one of my all time favorite..... I was in the 8th when i meat my huband, He was in the 11th back in the 1970's. this was the first gift he ever gave me, AWB albumn. His first initial was A and his last initial was B , no middle. I was told that i was the W and we loved AWB........ We got married in 1980, I'm still shaped like a W, please believe me..... Queen of my Soul.....

  • @Virpatrick You just hit the raight spot it is a treasure !!!!

  • Does anyone know what version of this song they play on 96.3 WHUR at 11pm??????????

  • @imlost24seven Probably the live one from AWB live. I used to have that album and I used to go to U of M in the early eighties and WHUR, Howard U. radio was always on my stereo. It waa little slower, almost ballad-like. It's the shiggiddy.

  • アヴェレイジ・ホワイト・バンドのSWEETナンバー“QUEEN OF MY SOUL”~~GOOD!

  • Thanks for posting such a treasure! ... AWB ♪!

  • My favorite song AWB did, they're amazing.

  • Classic

  • SWEET MUSIC!!!

  • hit from 1976..small version of the ultimate eath wind an fire..

  • NIIIIIIIIIIICE !!!!!!!!!

  • i have this in my collection, but havent heard it in a few months. after a few minutes found myself eyes closed, just feeling it! eventhough i dont listen to the radio much anymore, i doubt if there is a song out there today that can make me feel this way.

  • I was thinking that I had this in 12" and this and another song which I'm sure was called Ace of Hearts were the B side of Walk on By or was it Atlantic Avenue. Then again I may be talking total junk it was so long ago. Great soul stuff. My claim to fame was that I knew for a while Hamish Stewart's wee cousin who came from Tarbet Loch Fyne in Argyll, Scotland, he was a very talented musician himself.

  • not bad for a few scotsmen

  • Wow over 6 mins on a 45!

  • This was one of the best groups from the 70's to 80's...trust me they were far above average! Pure talent! Back when music was PURE music! Cover bands could jam all night with Pick up the Pieces!

  • @CamraCreations I so agree, great Soul Band.

  • alright, just indulge me for one moment...close your eyes & imagine a band of today that could deliver a song with a poetic message wrapped in a savory groove the way AWB did....just imagine... turning on the radio in your car & hearing it done like this...imagine...

    WAKE UP!....you were only dreaming...

  • AWB one of the few white bands that has soul!!

  • I shipped off to Germany back in 1975 and me & tha boyz over there jammed on AWB, Isley Bros, EW&F, Ohio Players, Parliament, Funkadelic, ZZ Top, just to name a few. But I got stuck on Cloudy by AWB - and noone can do that song like they did it! Great memories in a post-Vietnam America.

  • @digijeff What? You didn't mention War and Tower of Power... Tasty bits indeed.

  • Beautiful song!

  • great times & tunes, anybody got atlantic ave by the a.w.b, top tune

  • By far and away their best commercial effort. Shame it didn't get more play than Pick up the Pieces.

  • Woooohooooo

  • I drove KC a few years ago 4 a sound check @ The Galaxy in Costa Mesa Ca. @ XMAS time of that year...His back up female signer had a bad throat problem...but all was good ;)

  • I still listen to these guys a lot; they are one of my favorite groups

  • 1 of the best funk uk bands,,tricky lochee

  • this is the real deal music right here!

  • Hamish Stuart hit all the high notes on this classic, One of my favorites.

  • saw them at ronnie scotts on tuesday ; awsome

  • An awesome jam from an awesome group. Forever legendary and classic. Bring back this era of music. It's extremely needed. Straight up!

  • Aw wow, I love them & this song FOREVER!!

  • What a marvellous band they were.

  • does anyone have soul searching by average white band???????????

  • @tim9bo2

It was re-released as a collection CD last year.

  • Thanks for posting the long version. I have been looking for this version.

  • I was in high school when this came out and I played the album every Friday night on my turntable while I got ready to go out. Awesome memories.

  • i hear something of Marvin Gaye in the voice and in the rhythm guitar

  • I was like 8 yrs old when this came out listening to my older cousins play this and didn't find out till I was in my early 30s that these guys were white. These guys were before their time. Good ridin music,

  • A quality record form the great AWB, thanks for posting.

  • I love this frickin song.

It screams soul, 70's sex, love, a little weed, hangin out with friends back in the day when life was just beautiful and simple. AWB very underated band. I hope "Unsung" does a story on these guys.

  • AWB and Level 42 are in mine and only mine opinion the best things that came out of the UK.

  • happy days .....

  • baby makin' music

  • Makes Me think of Marvin Gaye!!!! Smooth

  • Hit #21 soul, #40 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in Scotland? God bless!

  • I just love this it is timeless, khadijah and Veronica

  • White soul music.nice

  • i agree with petera i want the original version of a love of your own

  • i want to find a love of my own original version

  • Yes...I long for these days....Thank You AWB for giving me good memories of my teen years....tears for you guys...Love ya!!!!!!

  • just too good

  • Indianapolis , Indiana1976 / The Drummer Steve Ferrone UMM HEARD IT THREW THE GRAPEVINE

  • Went to see them at Richfield coliseum in 1976 Cleveland Ohio. The show was fantastic.

  • I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium in '76....believe it or not, I still have Onnie, Alan's and Hamish's autographs in one of my old diaries.

  • Great song--will always bring back the summer of '76 in an uncharacteristically warm and sunny Edinburgh, Scotland for me. We were very proud of them over there, and they actually started a little bit of a souly/jazzy school of local bands in Edin., Glasgow, Dundee most of whom never got heard. We love you still, AWB!!

  • wish I could have seen them in Phila. I love this band and makes me proud to be of scots background.

  • Maybe becasue Hamish is no longer performing with the band, plus the original sax solo was performed by Dick Morrissey.

  • YES! Great theme!

    ktf

  • Fastflyer, is there any preamplifier, or is just direct sound from the turntable?

  • Hi. Yes there's a preamplifier, directly into the computer.

  • Absolute my taste! Hearding, and hearding it here!!!!!!

    music, suit, music

  • This is the greatest!! I love AWB.. And music is the queen of our souls.

  • AWB was at the Keswick last night up close and personal...got autographs and pic!!!. One of my favorite bands...great show.

  • maa ganz orginal die platte

  • one of the great scottish bands

  • Uh-oh! Almost drifts into DISCO. God Forbid! Still a great number though.

  • Don't you ever talk about disco again.

  • lol

  • beeellliisssiiimmmaaa cancion, que hermosos años aquellos recuerdo que en el salvador la interpretaba el grupo MACHO y en las fiestas que yo estuve con ellos siempre fue la primera con la que iniciaban

  • Big Big Big Big Chooooon!!!!!!

  • awb rocks

  • They alone with Queen and Rolling Stones. A.W.B. love them. I am Black female. I love white bands espiecally the one in the 70's. Anna

  • I'm a black male of 49 years now and when

Hamish hits his stride at the 5:13 mark in the song I knew he was one of the best singers of

that era. Da "scot" can blow...!!!

  • One of their best!Cool find/post...nice one.

  • love this version....different from their LP version...very nice guys...still have my autograph from 95....I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

  • top top top choon.feelin` it.

  • Excellent tune. Even as a 9 year old this song always touched me whenever i heard it. Seriously underrated and chronically underplayed. WICKED CHOON.

  • These guys rank right up there with Earth Wind And Fire.Such soul and dynamic power.

  • bigbullydog1, that's a fact..

  • Just hot. That song wore me out.

  • Okay, to all Youtubers- For years I have been searching for a similar song to this. In fact, I think it's a cover of it, but I cannot find it. It is the song played in the beginning of the radio station WHUR-FM, 96.3 Washington. I know, very few of you will be able too help me, but the cover version I'm looking for is heavily laid back, with instrumentals, except " Music! OoooohhhhAAAh! Sweet Music!" chorus. ANy help would be grateful

  • I think you talking about "Overture" on their Soul Searching album

  • AWESOME TUNE!

This group are the only good thing to come out of scotland since Steve Clarke, Pat Nevin, Charlie Cooke, Eddie Mccreadie and George Graham.

    CAREFREE C.F.C

  • Soul Searching, If I Ever Lose This Heaven, Cloudy, Person to Person, whew just thnking about all that great music makes me teary eyed. That was music. Those were the days.

  • Well if you listen to them for the first time without seeing the video, you might think they are blacks. Because of their style and kind of voices. I'm not saying that they suck, au contraire, they sound GREAT. Plus so many memories from the 70s.

  • Word...

  • High School days cruisin the Main street with the sounds of the fellas boppin the head to 'QUEEN OF MY SOUL" Thank you fellas for THE GREAT MEMORIES...peace

  • I'm so glad I found AWB. I still have three of their 8 tracks.....They were my favorite bands. Love the horns. Amazing

  • Steve Ferrone beatz are reliable like a swiss watch. Perfect album of Arif Mardin's genius.

  • say do vacuume needles do better than classics!?

  • What is the best way to play vinyl these days?

  • Are you from Y pa.

  • AWB is one of those genius bands from the 70's .. real music.. no hype.. no pretending.. no voice boxes.. drum machines and loopers... just pure music..

  • As an underage disco DJ, I remember spinning this one in the early hours of the evening and having half the crowd asking me who it was and telling me it was great while others told me I was out of my mind...This AWB album was appropriately named "Soul Searching" and was very underrated! The rubbish nowadays cannot compare to true artists like AWB who were actually emulating American soul, jazz AND nightclub vibes...

  • Soul Searching is a landmark, pivotal album.

  • soulsirching, also the chord scheme of this song is like "Sunny" Am, Gm, C9, Fmaj7, B-7b5, E7 but I think they do it here in Abmin. Great great soul from Scotland

  • wow that still sounds magical.I remember my friend skip had just bought this album.skip was 12 and I was 15 but he was extra cool.we would buy a nickle bag of weed and play awb, grover washington reed seed, enchantment. we would be mellow and then be xxx cool.those were the day's in saginaw mi.

  • This reminds me of Ramsey Lewis and EWF's "Sun Goddess" because of these 2 chords: Em9 and D9

  • Just goes to show, that MUSIC IS MUSIC!!! Even though some of the races may be surprised to find out that their favorite song/songs may come from a TOTALLY diferent race. I love ALL RACES and I am glad to be able to listen to SO MANY DIFFERENT FORMS OF IT!!!!!

  • Is this what they call WHITE SOUL?

    Not many can do this

    This is good!

  • Will see them early september, cant wait. The soundtrack of my youth haha. Still going strong these oldies! Thanks AWB!!

  • AWB and TOP, the funkiest ever. I am lookin for an album cut of Cloudy,. All thats here on youtube is a version by some dude. not bad but not the shizzle. If you have cloudy , could you please post ???

  • Dont compare AWB with Level 42. Two different sounds but both brilliant....But AWB just takes my vote. Nearly 40 years of pure soul, FANTASTIC

  • Great song and band. The first time I listened this song I thought they were Blacks. Really excellent song

  • AWB bad mofo's if someone has cloudy live please post!

  • Really great vid - its amazing how far the genre has come since '76. Hamish Stuart and Alan Gorrie both amazing voices but the whole band are fantastic and this is just about my favourite track of theirs. Thanks for posting.

  • The BEST British white soul band EVER!!!

  • @geoac from wales

  • @13lael from Scotland, actually--the pride of Dundee, Perth and Glasgow.

  • @geoac easy title to earn. lets try best european soul band ever

  • @geoac They would be the first to correct you...They are Not British they are SCOTTISH and that was never a advantage, in fact the opposite, when breaking in to music sceen.

  • @geoac

The best white soul band ever and one of the best soul bands ever, regardless of skin color, these guys were excellent!!!

  • @rhymeister I could not agree with you anymore, I am black and back in the day I bought all AWB albums!

  • @geoac

Just as a late clarification AWB is a Scottish funk and R&B band, not British.

  • I love this song! I remember this version and like it better cuz the compilation version is shorter. Thanks for the post!

  • when u buy compilations, buy the ones that say'' essentials'' not ''greatest hits''.the essentials usually have the long versions

  • Beautiful song! It's so great to hear this music again:) As for me, I look for this music cuz they don't ply these classics on the radio anymore.

  • they remind me so much like level 42,mark kings voice is similar to alan corries and the music aswell.

  • nothing like Level 42. Who is Alan Corries?

  • Ive seen them both, you must be having a laugh. lol

  • Gotta love it! Long not-too-lost memories flourish inside...the crystal distillations of my mind... Aaaaahhhhhhhh!

  • God, they don't make good music like this anymore !! Thanks for posting.

  • This is a great SONG!!!!!

  • I still have the Soul Searching 8 track tape. Never got tired of listening to their music. Great memories of the club scene in the 70's with people of ALL races and colors grooving on this and other AWB jams. A local progressive rock station played this album to death as well.

  • gotta love avg white band...i have a bunch of their LP's on vinyl

  • Thank you......................

  • this song brings back sweet memories of the late 70's early eighties and peaceful summer nights what a blast these guys were so in tune with the black community musically they are such a great soulful talent

  • OMG! This is one of my all-time cuts...a serious classic! And to post THIS version is even more special. Thank you so much!

I fall out every time I hear the part, "Don't keep it all inside yourself!" Hamish lets it rip. I love that lyric to death! Where in the world is he, anyway? :) That is one soulful Scot! :)

I love your turntable and that snazzy cartridge too. :D I need one of those!
