A better analogy would be this: Let's say you want a new car, but, for whatever reason, you only have 3 hours to spare. There are 3 car dealerships nearby - 2 small ones and 1 really large one. You wouldn't spend 1 hour at each, simply because there are 3; You would probably spend more time at the 1 large car dealership and less time at the 2 smaller ones.
I think the scores don't translate well from certain magazines and sites due to the fact the rating systems are different. For example, Game informer is based on a rating system from 1 to 10 going by a scale of .10. I'm in no way dismissing your theory because the PS3 version of Fallout 3 received a lower score than the 360 version on Game Spot. I'm sure everybody knows Game Spot is full of a bunch of biased ass holes by now though.

You should know what you're talking about because 720p is only one of the settings for MGS4. It also runs at 480p, 1080i, and 1080p. Also, about it struggling with 30fps, that was only at the CES preview of the game, a good 5 months before the game was released. And honestly, if you think Gears looks better you haven't seen even one screen shot from MGS4. Pretty much the only thing you said that wasn't complete horse shit was it taking up 4.6 gigs of space.

This is not the case. They in fact use "Weighted averages" to calculate their final score. If you don't know what that is then google it. This probably accounts for the seemingly inconsistent review scores.

To everyone saying Metacritic is "a load of shit"- you're wrong. The scores were like that because the game JUST game out. At that point there were 6 reviews- now there's 44. Metacritic was probably adding reviews and calculating the scores as they came in. I've seen this on other games- just wait, and the score will be accurate.

Wip3ou7: You do not understand how Metacritic calculates its overall scores; The sources of reviews have different weights, meaning that some reviews are "worth" more than others. If you had taken the time to click the "What is a Metascore?" link on their homepage, this is mentioned in the very first sentence.
Secondly, the difference between 72 and 74 is negligible after so few reviews.

Well, if that is true then that is a stupid way of making an average.
Taking all the reviews and making an average makes sense, altering those numbers is dumb.
That's like saying a car dealership has 10 cars, 8 of them are mid-range cards while the last 2 are sports cars, so instead of saying 10 cars they say they have 12 because the sports cars are worth more.
It doesn't make sense for them to do that.

It's not dumb; It's actually more sophisticated than simply adding up all the numbers and dividing, which a child could do.
A better analogy would be this: Let's say you want a new car, but, for whatever reason, you only have 3 hours to spare. There are 3 car dealerships nearby - 2 small ones and 1 really large one. You wouldn't spend 1 hour at each, simply because there are 3; You would probably spend more time at the 1 large car dealership and less time at the 2 smaller ones.

I think the scores don't translate well from certain magazines and sites due to the fact the rating systems are different. For example, Game informer is based on a rating system from 1 to 10 going by a scale of .10. I'm in no way dismissing your theory because the PS3 version of Fallout 3 received a lower score than the 360 version on Game Spot. I'm sure everybody knows Game Spot is full of a bunch of biased ass holes by now though.

They don't put the Playstation 3 scores on the 360 and vice versa, so a PS3 magazine scored it lower, and that score did not show up on the 360 reviews.
So basically, sites and magazines focused on Playstation 3 reviews, only show up on the PS3 reviews of the game, and the same for the 360.

You should know what you're talking about because 720p is only one of the settings for MGS4. It also runs at 480p, 1080i, and 1080p. Also, about it struggling with 30fps, that was only at the CES preview of the game, a good 5 months before the game was released. And honestly, if you think Gears looks better you haven't seen even one screen shot from MGS4. Pretty much the only thing you said that wasn't complete horse shit was it taking up 4.6 gigs of space.

You seem to ranting under the falsehood that Metacritic uses "Arithmetic mean" to calculate their averages.
This is not the case. They in fact use "Weighted averages" to calculate their final score. If you don't know what that is then google it. This probably accounts for the seemingly inconsistent review scores.

Larger, more experienced critics and sites are given more weight.
It's to be expected.
You can't expect a verdant, new site to be given as much influence as a proven, acclaimed site like IGN.
As the reviews pile in, the discrepancies are eventually evened out. The 360 version of Sacred is now scored 72, while the PS3 version is scored 71.
