  • Do you know the size of the belts? Mine are missing and i have no clue where to put the damn thing, lol

    Thanks.

  • @TheMrmagnetophon I would have to check. I looked at the mechanism years ago and to my memory I think it was all idler-driven. But then maybe there was a small rewind belt. I'll have to check.

  • @CassetteMaster Hi thanks, well mine is the exact same unit and for some reason the forward is not working, if its idler then im missing a idler pulley.

  • @CassetteMaster Alright, the guy stole the idlers wheels before selling it to me, thanks anyways.

  • It works so well. They must have never used it! Really nice looking machine.

  • It had been used for audio letters during Vietnam.

  • I used to have one of those! I miss it. Great video!

  • Nice machine. Early Sony's were always good quality products. Do you live in Tape Recorder Heaven USA? Gosh, you find all these neat machines at yards sales! I go and never find anything! You must live a charmed life, and the Tape Recorder god has smiled upon you!

  • Well, most garage sales I encounter just have a bunch of clothes and toys and stuff like that! This one, I asked the person if they had any tape recorders, in which she went in the house to retrieve this machine!

  • hey!. i have that tune on a lp.

  • 10 bucks ,, you fucking lucky cunt

  • Great machine. Thanksfor the vid response, Ricky.

  • is this PS4?;)

  • These little reel to reel recorders are how service men used to send messages back home while they were stationed overseas

  • That was the exact use this one had been used for!

  • i thought you would be interested to know the tc-123 according to the paper work with mine wasnt ment for sale in us. mine was sent by some one in the navy home to his wife. i even have the reciept where mine went through coustoms in 68 and it cost 12 dollors to get it past customs lol

  • WOWOW!! A RECORDER NOT FOR THE US!! I am SO glad I have this!

  • The recording quality of your camera is pretty limited, but is it just me or does this machine sound pretty good?

  • The recording does add a hum on the reel-to-reel.

  • Hello. It is me again, hwo asked about the age. Do you use it to record from radio? I do. Becouse the sound is better.

Im an icelandic and when I got it from my grandfather I got a lot of Old radio shows from the 60s.

Mine have three speeds. How many have yours?

  • This reel-to-reel is 2-speed, 1 7/8 and 3 3/4 IPS. I never tried radio recording on THIS recorder but I do record off the radio a LOT!

  • I have one like this, but it is not Sony. Mine is from 1959. How old is yours?

  • 1967.

  • My first really serious reel to reel was a Sony TC-200, it was a hybrid, tube and transistor. You have found some great stuff.

  • "S-O-N-Y A SONY Demonsration"

  • Are there any manufacturers of reel to reel recorders left? or is the only way you can get them is either ebay, or yard/garage sales?

  • I think some might still make them, like Nagra, but are expensive.

  • That thing is cool

  • My father and mother used to "speak" with one another using these devices via mail when he was in Vietnam and she was here in the states... Many people used those for early "voice mail".

  • When I bought this, they used the recorder for the exact same purpose!

  • wonder what that's worth to a collector.

  • Great machine! What I like about tape machines is that you "see" them working ... today's equipment is visually much less attractive. Just imagine making a video of a digital harddisk recorder or CD player: you would hardly see anything moving at all :-)

  • 1967? The music on the little demonsration tape sounds like something from the early 1960's

  • The tape and recorder are in super good condition for their age! I'm betting that unit is from 1961.

  • 1967.

  • Ahh, when S-O-N-Y made quality. A very nice piece of 60's recording history there. Built to last. Looks in pristine condition!

  • Definately built to last! It worked when I got it, but I had to glue on a new pad so the tape could be pushed against the head better. That improved sound quality and recordings cam in a lot stronger.

  • Nice score there!!

  • How do you get all that stuff? It seems you have a lot of disposable income. But anyway, how does one go around and collect all that stuff if he doesn't have ANY money?

  • Yard sales sell things for cheap!

  • Cute

  • nice machine! love the music and it sound great. i think it's from the mid to late 60's.

  • Does it record on the "other side" of the tape like most R2R machines?

  • Yes.
