I don't think that you can compare any of the White Stripes albums to each other! They are each so different & unique in thier own ways. I too love this old sound, but I also love the Icky Thump sound & all in between! All bands are going to grow & change. If they didn't everyone would be bitching because each album & song sounds just like the one before it!

I think many fail to acknowledge the fact that The White Stripes have always managed to bring something new to the table with each and every album. No two albums ever sound the same. We have to realize that the band is in a constant state of evolution, never afraid to experiment with new sounds and different genres of music. They have lost nothing and gained everything, and their latest album is proof. Icky Thump is their most accomplished work to date.

Its was real rock n roll from the start and then after 2003 I think that it got kind of out of perspective and their sound of raw good rock n roll was put away and thats what made me turn my head and said WHAT HAPPENED. After ELEPHANT their true sound was gone.

very, very true. while the great song writing and talent are still there, i feel like the production value has gone downhill. The self-titled debut, De Stijl, and Elephant all have the greatest production work, I think. Hopefully one day they will return to the simplicity of those albums. They have changed so much. Still an absolutely amazing band. Jack White is my hero.

I think The White Stripes, De Stijl and Satan were the best albums. Satan purely because it was so different. I don't particurly like Elephant anymore, or Icky Thump.

I, and this is just my opinion, think that Elephant has got some of the best written songs on it, but it is just a bit too polished and perfect to sound like the raw blues noise (God bless that noise) of The White Stripes and De Stijl. I miss that. It was what really marked them out for me. Icky Thump was OKAY, but, as someone with Scottish relatives, I can't listen to St. Andrew or Prickly Thorn without laughing really hard. Still an extraordinary album, in its own strange little way...
