  • This isn't Willy O'Winsbury (child 100). This is Hind Horn (child 17)

  • Incredibly beautiful! New one for me! WoW! Best Christmas present ever!

  • @coolanddark the last 4 minutes just silence.

  • What a great traditional ballad especially what the king says about her lover. What a happy accident it was that Andy accidentally married these words to this tune by mistake. From an old friend.

  • Janet's a bloody awkward name to sing in that song. Nevertheless, great song, great singing from Andy, and a great band (Planxty will always be my true love though)

  • what album is this from, my friend?

  • @Thatdarndoug The album I have is "The Legend of Sweeney's Men: Anthology"

  • Early version of the great Any Irvine

  • excelent version, I am always partial to anything Andy sings, he is lovely in every conceivable way

  • Thanks .. for posting. They do a wonderful job on a great old song!

  • one of the greatest bands ever.

    no MFing doubt.

  • the best version iv heard out of a lot of versions i must add , would love to have heard lal waterson singing this , peace

  • almost as good as anne briggs version

  • @ucrucccj I think this version is better, seems clearer and more sincere.

  • wow ..... this tune is what fairport (sandy denny) used for :Farewell farewell"?

  • @midnite22155 yeh i think it is

  • Andy Irvine is such a great traditional singer.. I just heard this song for the first time tonight on Lyric FM.....I had to check it out....It so lovely and pure...

  • I love this olde folk music, it brings me back home! Cape Breton!

  • this is about the most beautiful thing i've ever heard in my life

  • I love this its very ethereal.

  • andy irvine owns this song! its definitely the best version i've heard of it

  • Now theres a memory of over 40 years ago, lot of water undert the bridge,.

    Thank you for the memory

    Paddy P

  • Your memory of over 40 years ago,is mine of less than twenty.

Lots of something other than water under the bridge though!.

And maybe with a few added Medieval Scots maidens thrown in.

Actually, the tune to this song is completely wrong, which was known to Andy when he sang it.

The words fit,so it all worked out.

In fact others copied the same mistake, which is very flattering when you think about it.

  • S.M.
