What a great traditional ballad especially what the king says about her lover. What a happy accident it was that Andy accidentally married these words to this tune by mistake. From an old friend.
Janet's a bloody awkward name to sing in that song. Nevertheless, great song, great singing from Andy, and a great band (Planxty will always be my true love though)
Andy Irvine is such a great traditional singer.. I just heard this song for the first time tonight on Lyric FM.....I had to check it out....It so lovely and pure...
ive been looking for this song for years!!! i heard andy singing it at a planxty concert in dublin, but i when i left forgot its name! thanks for putting this up!!!
This isn't Willy O'Winsbury (child 100). This is Hind Horn (child 17)

Your memory of over 40 years ago,is mine of less than twenty.
Lots of something other than water under the bridge though!.
And maybe with a few added Medieval Scots maidens thrown in.
Actually, the tune to this song is completely wrong, which was known to Andy when he sang it.
The words fit,so it all worked out.
In fact others copied the same mistake, which is very flattering when you think about it.
