  • I think they may have just sold me their camera...............

  • Because everyday life involves fields of flowers. XD

  • sorry but whats with the perfect family buzz? and where did the asian kid come from? looks like someone had some fun with the house-keeper or something - (arnie you bold) anyhoo got a deposit on one of these cameras now :) cant wait to get snap happy!

  • *_*

  • i cant get mine to shoot in HD....first it would only do 720p so i messed with it to get 1080 and now its only like 240!!! please i need help!

  • 哈哈~單眼就有這麼優質的效果真是讓人心動, 可是要蒐齊影片中出現的鏡頭我會傾家蕩產啊!!

  • Wow, here i sweden i really miss the summer. Brr, it's freezing cold up here.

  • What cute friggin KIDS!!!!!!

  • nikon kicks ass

  • Crappy music ! nikon needs to learn how to make adds...

  • yea nikon that's how entry level dslr should be...in your face canon. NIKON 4eva

  • @KEBokeh I know what good is and Ken Rockwells work would not be allowed in a professional gallery. There are standards out there for quality work, and Ken Rockwell does not meet those standards, this is a fact. He is a gear head, not an artist. If you are in the arts and can not take a critique, you won't last long because that is what happens - it is not a shame.

  • @frankgrizzo *chuckle* I have to admit, I don't care much for his people photos. Although mostly sharp and well exposed they are kind of just...blah.

As a noob I do find his reviews quite helpful though.

  • @KEBokeh Ken Rockwell doesn't know how to shoot a camera. When Ken figures out how to shoot good photos, then maybe people will listen.

  • Everyone talking about no manual controls, your just talking about video right? Not pictures?

  • Pretty good camera .. but I have 2 questions: 1- can we compare Nikon d3100 with canon 500d (on base of picture quality and over all rating) ?

2- Is it better than Nikon d5000 and does it stand close to Nikon d90?

  • entry level camera no manual controls or external mic people wait for the d90 replacement or d5100, or d300x

  • Exactly Trinkosol. Not cameras fault it was the shooter. Very excited for this camera just for the video capabilities.

  • @TheEricBooth Plus for some reason the shooter never "Locked" in the exposure. With the D90 you can set it up in preferences to use the AE-L button to lock in the exposure without having to hold it in. Not sure if the D3100 has this capability.

  • @TheEricBooth

Does this camera have any manual controls over video? Which ones? Aperture and shutter speed are probably the most important. It's weird that this camera has been announced and so little is known about the video. How is that possible. Could Nikon be working on it even at this late date. With manual controls over video and a decent bit rate this camera could be a competitor to the T2i. Though it won't be able to do 60p for smooth slow mo like the T2i can. Still, it's cheaper.

  • @ar4216 Looks like the framerate is 24fps which is used in the movie industry but yeah 60fps would be nice for the slow mo stuff. As for manual not too sure. Only thing I know is it has full time auto focus image tracking or face tracking while shooting video. So you can select whats to remain in focus as it moves through the frame.

  • @TheEricBooth

That full time autofocus could be very useful for folks with a steadicam. I have no doubt this can produce some outstanding video but I need some manual controls.

  • @ar4216 I can't seem to find any info on manual controls. That would be a bummer because thats all I really want! The AF is nice, the new codec is nice (although it looks like it is even more compressed than the t2i, which is not so nice) but for me manual control is king. Maybe they are saving it for the D90 replacement!

  • @trinkosol

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. The price is great and this camera has a lot going for it. But without manual controls I'm gonna wait till Photokina and see if something else is introduced. I know a GH2 is coming but I don't want to go smaller than ASP-C.

  • @TheEricBooth Yeah, I noticed that too. I didn't see very much rolling shutter either, but they could have edited it out and the shooting style was relatively steady. Interested to see the footage from other people when it is released.

  • @trinkosol Yeah the rolling shutter is gone due to the new sensor. That is what is going to make this a killer camera for video. Only one drawback I've seen is there is no external mic jack. :-(

  • I'm not sure what the issue is here with "blown highlights" - the video is a tad overexposed for sure. That's not the fault of the camera, but the shooter. The "pale" colors - there is no mention as to what Picture Settings the video was shot on. Could have been neutral for all we know. Anyways, don't most DSLR video shooters shoot in neutral and do everything in post anyways?

Really appreciated the lens annotations and it looks WAY better than my D90. Of course that's not much of a stretch ;-).

  • blown highlights and the colors are "pale" Not going to hurry for this model for video.. another disappointment..

  • If this is promotional ?? then why is video not in 1080P ..bad marketing I must say :(

  • How much is it?

  • Looks like a great camera, but honestly speaking, the sound of the name is just ugly LOL.

    D3100...

    *shivers*

  • Sooo, I'm guessing the exposure lock button was hidden in the battery compartment?

  • Ubercool! :)

  • Where's the HD option on the video? This tops out at only 480.

  • @Bosingr If you'd only noticed the annotation at the start of the video....

  • @NotTheMusicMan Yeah, I found the HD version just after watching this one.

The sky is washed out in a couple scenes, and all detail in the lamb's wool at the 1:00-1:05 mark is also blown out. The whole video looks a bit overexposed really.

I do like the actress/model playing the wife and mom. She's pretty cute.

  • People PLEASE. I need an answer. Should i get THIS or the CANON EOS 500d/T1i???

  • @Appleaddict22 Those models are at least a year old, the replacements are 550d and T2i. So, yea you shouldnt get those. I see the T1i on sale everywhere because they are trying to get rid of them.

  • @JogBird Im ordering the T1i.. Its just as good as the T2i. Nobody can really tell the difference between 15 and 18mpx photos right? Seriously there isnt much difference

  • @Appleaddict22

    Definitely the Nikon D3100 !

  • dunno whether to get the d5000 or wait for this, decisions decisions :S

  • @F3RGIE if u waited this long to get the d5000, dont hesistate, but... if u really want the benefits of the new d3100, then you HAVE to wait for it :)

  • @nerxboy yeap think ill just wait to be honest, i waited like 3-4 months and was about to finally buy the d5000 on monday past, but due to work ive not had the chance. Guess ill hold out until september.

  • @F3RGIE Because of this, the D5000 is now obsolete. In other words, wait for this.

  • Could anyone see any examples of autofocus working in the middle of a clip? Possibly at 1:29, not much though.

  • On the video side of things I want to see how the continuous auto focus works when tracking a subject.

  • Every clip looks so over exposed.... A professional video should not look like this IMO

  • im definitely selling my d60 for this

  • Cool
