  • Magnificent song by Black Sabbath

Dave Walker is the good vocalist

  • This would have changed EVERYTHING

  • Prefer Ozzy version!

  • The Ozzy version has to be one of my all time favourites. Saying that I really dig this version as well.

  • I've never been a fan of Never Say Die but I think I would have loved it if Dave Walker sang on it. This version just rocks so hard. Too bad we'll never know what could have been.

  • this is awful

  • i love his version of the song its much better thn ozzys

  • Now I know where Eddie Vedder got his influence and inspiration.

  • @cudaj2 Also reminds me of Jeff Scott Soto's vocal style.

  • @cudaj2 Except that Eddie Vedder eats chodes, and this guy's not too bad

  • @PutItAway101 Lol! That cracks me up! Good one!

  • Does anyone have the video footage of Sabbath w/ Dave Walker on the BBC "Look Hear" show from 1-6-78? The video does exist. Been looking for it for years. Thanks

  • Awesome singer indeed

  • Interesting. He reminds me a bit of james dewar. this song had possibilities but was ruined by the recording and production on that album. sounds heavier here.

  • Please do a version of 'Stairway' w/your own lyrics in case the first bullet in my brian doesnt work

  • @ASR10MAN I think the reason the lyrics are different is because they hed Dave Walker on this instead of Ozzy. So maybe Dave used his own lyrics instead of Geezer's. The patterning and melody he's using is different too. And they DON'T suck. He's got a great voice and adds his own style to the song.

  • @coreeeey420 the lyrics are different because Walker, Geezer and Im assuming Tony wrote this; don't forget they thought Ozzy was gone at this point in time and they were working on a new album but, as we all know, Ozzy rejoined and refused to use ANY lyrics written with Walker. So Ozzy and Geezer mustve wrote the lyrics in a tribute for his father.

  • @MyNiggaDose It's still killer, no matter what. I wish they had some more with Dave, as well as some recordings with the other Dave (Donato). That would be sweeeeeeeeeet..... I know there are Ray Gillan recordings available.

  • i like these vocals for the song better than ozzy's but i think these are different lyrics i know theres no way to tell but just something i noticed.

  • @itsmiketehdrummerguy Walker's lyrics are definately different than Ozzy's "Juniors Eyes". They certainly sound a lot gloomier than Ozzy's.

  • @mndk100

"Walker's lyrics are definately different than Ozzy's"

    Yeah they suck

  • @ASR10MAN geezer was the main lyricist not ozzy so shut the fuck up

  • Inaudible vocals.

  • @ghostdancer2302

    Thanks for that Captain Obvious.

Besides, to complain about that is ironic considering how many people misquote Sabbath and Ozzy lyrics. I mean if they can't hear supposedly audible lyrics correctly, then does it really matter if these are inaudible?

There's plenty of other Sabbath bootlegs with inaudible lyrics that are still relatively worthwhile to listen to...specifically some of the early 1970 shows, when they played songs with different lyrics.

  • @blacksabfan Sometimes bands purposely keep lyrics inaudible. Example, on Led Zeppelin's Carouselambra you can't understand the lyrics but on All My Love the words are perfectly clear. I think it's a way to sell more records. Yeah, I like listening to early versions of Sab songs with different lyrics, like War Pigs and Killing Youself To Live.

  • @ghostdancer2302

The lyrics are perfectly audible on Carouselambra. What the hell are you talking about?

The only reason the the sound isn't that clear here is the quality of the recording, that's it. Even still, parts of it can be made out. Any band that takes the time to write real lyrics isn't going to keep them inaudible. That doesn't even make sense.

  • @blacksabfan I'm not making this up, give Carouselambra another listen. I've read that Robert's vocals were mixed so deeply into the magma of the song that the words were unintelligible and that they were made purposely clear on All My Love. The song Burning Down One Side from Robert's solo career is inaudible too.

  • @ghostdancer2302

So that's why I can google "Carouselambra", and find the full lyrics of the song and read them and realize that they make complete sense. Nevermind that I actually took the time to put the song on myself before my last reply and could clearly make them out.

Whatever, I guess my ears are just awesome.

  • @blacksabfan You know more than they do I guess. Anyway, like your vids.

  • @ghostdancer2302

Now let's not be putting words in my mouth. I never said I know more than Zeppelin does, I just think you're mistaken. If you read it somewhere, I suppose you would be willing to tell me where you read it, that way I can find it myself.

Or, is this one of those situations where someone says they read something somewhere once upon a time and then they disappear when they are challenged on it and/or proven wrong? Many Sabbath fans pull that crap all the time.

  • @blacksabfan Okay, I read it in Hammer Of The Gods. Page 291.

  • @ghostdancer2302

I'll have to pick it up and read it next time I'm in the bookstore. I see a copy of it every time I'm in there.

  • @blacksabfan

Good book. The surviving members of Zeppelin don't particularly like it. They say it's ludicrous and was written by someone they never knew. When you read the book though, you get the feeling that the author (Stephen Davis) did his homework and speaks the truth. My opinion it that it's real and that the band just doesn't like the truth coming out. Check it out and form your own opinion. Either way it's a very good read.

  • While there is something "off" about the last two albums with Ozzy, Never Say Die is far superior to Technical Ecstacy (though Dirty Women rocks!)

  • Am I alone in thinking that "Never Say Die!" would have been a MUCH better album with this line up? (Obviously, sound quality aside) This is a better version of Juniors Eyes.

  • Sounds awesome. I think Ozzy fan boys need to be more open minded. Before you say oh fuck you or anything I love the first 6 Sabbath Albums. But they were writing music that required a different vocal style at this time. Ozzy was good but he can only sing so much that's also part of the charm of Sabbath. But I'm more a fan of the riffs more then the vocals.

  • qulaquer vocalista é melhor que o ozzy kkkkk... nem precisam ficar comparando, ozzy nao passa de um maconheiro famoso

  • Black Sabbath Is Very Good :D

  • Interesting, but awful....I doubt this version is called "Junior's Eyes". The album recording kills this garbage..... Not even in the the same league..

  • @stoicj

It's Live from a TV show, you fucking idiot. It's not the "quality" that is of importance in this case, it's the fact that it's rare as FUCK. Thanks for douching it up, MORON.

  • @HOC666 Nice attitude. What grade did you finish your education??? 3rd grade??? Maybe 4th???? Or did your mother just teach all those "big" words???

  • @reptilia5

Again, thanks for douching it up, asshole.

  • @HOC666 Little man.

  • @reptilia5

Next time you reply to someone twice, make it fucking worthwhile. Okay, asshole?

  • @reptilia5

    Stupid man.

  • BLACK SABBATH IS THE BEST...

  • This is a cool thing to hear - I like Sabbath and I also like Dave Walker (Savoy Brown and the Dave Walker Band.) While I agree that his vocal style doesn't really match Sabbath's music (blues-rock rather than heavy metal), it's still cool to hear.

  • it sounds waaay better with ozzy

  • "Hellbound Train"..."Crazy Train"...anybody else see the connection? Lol

  • this honestly sounds like sabbath meets CCR

  • Gracias capo x subir estas rarezas, menos mal que volvió Ozzy,no?

  • NO ONE IS BETTER THEN OZZY.OZZY OZZY OZZY RULES!!.

  • @warpig2313 Dio Is

  • Really cool to have heard this version--would like to see their appearance on the show. Honestly, the Ozzy version is so much better...one of THE best tracks on this weakest of all Sab albums (Never Say Die'). The lyrics were written about Ozzy's dad Jack who had recently passed on. Ozzy's emotional vocals put it over the top. 'Technical Ecstasy' was the last strong Sabbath album--with 'Sabotage' being my personal fave of the Ozzy era...

  • I much prefer the lyrics and melody on the Never Say Die version. This kinda sounds like Walker is just improvising over the riffs.

  • Check out TheDaveWalkerBand on YT. 66 years old and still rockin'. :-)

  • Savoy Brown, Sabbath it's all fuckin' HEAVY.. thats what matters..

  • This guy has some serious Soul, holy freaking Shit, too bad they never did an album together, I have never heard Dave Walker before, I think he sounds great!

  • @MrTraceMan Walker had recorded with a number of bands since the 1960s, most notably a stint with Savoy Brown for a trio of LPs in 1971 - 1972 ("Street Corner Talking", "Hellbound Train" and "Lion's Share"), and a brief stint with Fleetwood Mac (two songs, "The Derelict" and "I'm A Roadrunner", off their "Penguin" LP, 1973). This was sort of a turbulent period for the guy... he wasn't able to record with anybody through the rest of the decade and runs solo now.

  • i wonder what would have happened if ozzy didnt come back the first time.. maybe there would never be Dio sabbath.. who knows?

  • Well, I really like this version!

  • hum It would have been cool if DIO would have joined during this period

  • Thanks for the post, please check out Dave Walker's New Band.

  • Who's lyrics? Ozzy or dave change them?

  • @polkatulk1 these was Dave's, Ozzy came in and changed them when he rejoined them, he wrote them about his dad dying.

  • wow,he should have replaced Ozzy.I think this is way better than Dio(R.I.P.)

  • @1906aldo how can you say that? the sound is shit and you can't even hear what he's saying! now compare this to Wishing Well and tell me whos better,.

  • @SabbraCadabra789 Yes, the sound is shit but its techical problem. It has nothing to do with his singing.I personaly like deep, bluesy voices like this. And Dave Walker really is much better singing Ozzy-era songs than Dio.I mean...this was recorded on some crap but still i really enjoyed listening to this.I enjoyed it more than I enjoy listening Dio ruinning/singing Paranoid

  • David did war pigs also for the BBC recording. where can i find that song?

anyways this version of juniors eye is kinda different and good.

  • I dunno... I like Sabbath and I like Dave, but the two don't seem to jell...

  • go Dave go

  • My uncle was best friends with him and when he passed away I went over to were my uncle lived (I'm not giving out where he lives) and when ever I go there I get to meet this guy. I actually smoked some weed with him and watched some soccer with him. I was there just this summer.

  • @BF2User5 Say to Dave Walker to he continue to sing ok? Make a new band.. lol

  • @Luckzzz he already has one forgot the name

  • I loved Black Sabbath with Dave Walker, Gillan, Dio, Tony Martin (for me, the best one), Hugges and Halford. Love them all! And, of course, Ozzy Osboune as well!

  • burn this tape

  • Dave Walker sang for Fleetwood Mac. And Savoy Brown too. A damn good rock & roll singer. Fleetwood Mac should've kept him.

  • @genesisfan3 Dave Walker was also in Ac/Dc before Bon Scott. There are some live performances on Youtube with Dave Walker..

  • @guitarfreakstyle No, man! It was Dave EVANS in AC/DC.

  • Very cool to finally hear this version!

  • Dave Walker replaced Jeff Lynne in the Idle Race, that's true. He really didn't replace Ozzy, nobody replaces anybody in Sabbath, just fills in.

  • dave walker was the singer for savory brown

  • i love never say die, dunno why people dont like it

  • The Dave Walker Band just released a new CD "Crazy All the Time" he sounds better than ever.

Dave will be releasng a weekly blog wth stories

When Dave was with the Idle Race (where he replaced Jeff Lynne) he would hang out at the Rum Runner and The Cedar Club in Birmingham, Tony and the boys from Sabbath would hang there too. Bonzo and Plant. also frequented those places, Bonzo was Dave's drinking Buddy. Dave's friendship with Sabbath goes way back and he genuinely likes them all.

  • Love this: blues metal forever!.-

  • I bet Dave and Sabbath had a chuckle after trying it out, all involved are great but together not so much. For those that are into Sabbath and haven't yet checked out Savoy Brown, in any early version up to the mid 70's, should do so. Savoy was the only bad with heavy enough subject matter to have been an influence on Sab. Though Dave would have been after Sab had made their mark. Anyway, DAve wasn't a fit here but he wailed on Savoy Brown.

  • This Dave Walker would is better than Dio but Ozzy is the best

  • I am *so* glad they did not pick this guy to sing. It basically means Sabbath would have started sucking in 1978 instead of 1985! ha ha... We'd have 5 or 6 fewer years of good Sabbath! I like Ozzy, I like Dio, Ian Gillan- Hell, I'll even tolerate some Tony Martin or Ray Gillen stuff- but *this* guy blows dead donkey dicks. Fact.

  • @tucula

Try reading the information provided below the video...that is, if you can read...

  • @tucula singer of sevoy brown a british blues band

  • @tucula jackwagon

  • when i 1st. heard this i was like WTF but i just keep on coming back to this video and now i think their should've been more stuff from this line-up. but anyway can anyone please upload war pigs by this line-up i'd like to hear it

  • Walker also sang WAR PIGS but I cant find that recording... grrrrrrrrrrr

  • sounds a bit like james dewer.....good,but definately not right for sabbath...

  • @VUPdingCLICK I agree totally sounds like James Dewer

  • @babybotch A deeper version of James....maybe.

  • I like this version. I like that Dave Walker sang it first. I like even more that the version on the official album is Ozzy and is also one of my 'guilty secret' favourite Black Sabbath tracks.

  • It doesn't sound to what Sabbath used to play, it sounds more like pure blues to blues-rock

  • completely incoherent...he's not even forming words as opposed to growling. It's pretty bad when the majority of the song is music and it's not even an instrumental. good thing ozzy's vocals turned this into a good song...with his extremely coherent vocals (as usual)

  • OK !

WTF was Ozzy at when this guy was singing.

And lets be real as much as I hate Ozzies kids and the commercial he has become, the rest of BS is damn lucky he is so forgiving. After all the shit they pulled on him(specially Tony) back in the 70s. Can anyone keep track of how many times Ozzy has saved their careers? And when he cant do it Dio does.

  • Horrid. Just like 97% of the singers they had who tried to fill Ozzy's shoes.

  • I could see why this didn't work.

  • the cat hat was an insult to those who didnt like the idea of an american in the band! and for those who dont know caterpillar is a major american engine and heavy equipment company

  • To be fair I think he did an okay job of what was obviously a pretty hard task. It not that unlike what was to follow with Dio at the helm. Okay its not Ozzy but who is? And it can never be called a cover, it is the original version, like it or not>

  • uhh how dull isnit, you people must be joking with me, id better go killing myself cos ive got no sence of humour goodbye

  • he's voice a little bit smiliar to coverdale's...bluesy

  • This was recorded before Ozzy come back to the band...eat 'em and smile!

  • Who does this Walker guy think he is?!

To perform a train wreck like this with a classic B. SABBATH song like this!

Vocal pollution is what it is. Christ...

  • lol You know, I understand that people like Ozzy.. he is the original Sabbath singer... that said, this guy Dave Walker can out sing Ozzy any day of the week. He can step in anywhere and do the job, Ozzy is well Ozzy.. he could never perform anyone elses music cause he's a terrible singer. lol Try imagining Ozzy singing Sign of the Southern Cross for instance :P

  • samhain1957: "Try imagining Ozzy singing Sign of the Southern Cross for instance"

Believe me my friend it cannot be worse than the butcher job this guy did on a classic Sab song. BTW that is why ozzy doesn't sing other peoples stuff... because he is a one of a kind.

Dave is not even trying to be true to the essence of the original song. He is changing the melody and skipping the chorus all together. It is undefendable! In this instance he is pathetic. It doesnt matter what else he has done.

  • "Dave is not even rying to be true to the essence of the original song?"

In all fairness, Dave Walker sang the ORIGINAL song. This version was done on TV in January 1978...before Ozzy ever attempted it...before Never Say Die was done.

Ozzy does way better, but lets be fair. This isn't a cover...Walker sang it with Sabbath first.

  • @blacksabfan they had a problem with Walker that his vocals were not able to be understood. his style of singing didnt fit with Sabbath. Later when Ozzy returned they rewrote the words as a tribute to Ozzys father Jack who had just passed away. So the song was completely changed to a tribute to Jack Osbourne.

  • @kortick50

That pointless explanation aside, it's still not a cover. That was your original argument, was it not?

Also, that part about Walker not being understood is crap. The only reason you can't here is the quality of the tape. I'd love to see any source where you got that tidbit of information...not that I expect to...

  • @blacksabfan Refer to the book, Black Sabbath: Doom let Loose, by Martin Popoff. Chapter 9 pages 142-43 to be exact for even more info on Walker and his Sabbath days. And no its not a cover, Ozzy refused to sing any lyrics written for Walker so when they re-recorded this song it was done as tribute to Oz dad.

  • @kortick50 Yes, you weren't the guy that was claiming this as a cover. Fair enough.

That said, I happen to own the very same book. So I checked it out for myself. All it says about Walker (from Geezer) is that "the material wasn't very good--It wasn't us anyway" right on page 143. It's doesn't mention anything about Walker's ability to sing, which I don't really know either way, but other people seem to think was pretty good in his other bands.

  • @blacksabfan he is and actually i really like this stuff too it really brings sabbath to their bluesy roots and still sounds like sabbath

  • @blacksabfan i seem to think he was really good in sabbath btw he also sang war pigs you wouldn't happen to have a bootleg or footage of him singing it do ya

  • @Traductus5972 He didn't sing "War Pigs," unfortunately. Bill, Tony, and Geezer played it, with Dave accompanying them with a tambourine.

  • @QuarrellaDeVil oh that bites

  • @Skavar4000 - Ozzy's version of this song is the best, it has a real bluesy sound - (and I love Ozzy's voice;-) this man is just shouting most of the time. However, it isn't true that Ozzy doesn't sing other people's stuff, as you claim, as his album 'Under Cover' contains only material by other artists. But it's a great album - my favourites are 'Mississippi Queen', 'All the Young Dudes' and the Beatles classic 'In My Life' - Ozzy gives all the songs on this album his own very special touch.

  • Walkers take on this is dreadful...in fact its all completely dreadful.Quick need to listen to the Ozzy version & forget I ever heard this...jesus whats with the fuckin harmonica.

  • @Dinner1966 hey Ozzy played harmonica on the wizard and also i think he played it on this song to on the never say die album

  • yeah... it sounds more like Fleetwood Mac with Tony Iommi on guitar. ;p

  • this sucks and is embarrasing ...walker sings like a drunkin biker....

  • Dave Walker is a awesome singer. All his work has been exceptional. Always will be a ozzy Sabbath fan, but Dave gives the band a unique touch. This sound would of been good, and it's too bad it did'nt continue.

  • good but not black sabbath

  • dave walker great voice, amazing artist!!

  • not the song without Ozzy... ... ... Ozzy is the only one who can sing Juniors Eyes...

  • Where didi you find this version of the song?

  • IMHO, Dave really would have fit Black Sabbath. Actually when Ozzy left BS he said he wanted them to pursue a more musical direction like Humble Pie. With Dave his wish would have come true. After all, its still all Black Sabbath.

  • as much as i like NSD with Ozzy still i would have liked to hear more out of this lineup. Dave Walker had a great voice.

  • this is strange and confused. Ozzy´s version is great, but this is strange

  • I agree, this isn't a good fit at all.

  • I think you're confusing Dave Walker with Jeff Fenholt.

  • wow dave walker with black sabbath thats so badas savoy brown rules

  • Comment removed

  • I dont know what any of you all are bitching about, I think this is awesome.

  • Give the song a break, no it's not Ozzy and it does suck but you don't have to point out the obvious, it's Sabbath history nonetheless.......

  • I read of this very cool to find it here, Thanks

Groovin on Savoy Brown - Time Does Tell -Street Corner Talking, '71

  • Ozzy re-wrote the lyrics to Juniors Eyes about the death of his father, When he returned to the band!

  • this is my least favorite ozzy era album there some ok songs on this album i think dave was in sabbath for 3 wks cause ozzy left and came back dave sounds ok , i think he did 2 songs on this album this one and anthoer acourse they were never used thanks for the post of the song atleast i can say i heard it now

  • AWFUL

  • I am tired of reading comments where people dis Never Say Die. Totatly underrated. Geez and Iommi sound great, but this guy sucks. Maybe vocals for swinging the chain were in order for this guy, but that is it. Ozzy even does the blues better than this guy. Cool stuff for historical value, but the Ozz version makes this song a classic.

  • NEVER SAY DIE SABBATH BEST ALBUM

  • The album version of Ozzy is much better? That is the original and needs to stay that way! Dave Danato? Why are we even discussing? What a fucking JOKE! Nice attempt at Dio who was the best replacement after Ozzy, but he fucking sounds like a FLAMING VANDENBERG.

  • I don't like it. The album version with Ozzy is much better. Had to check it out, out of curiosity. I'm going to look up Savoy Brown now and try to listen with an open mind.

  • i like this. in its different way it's as good as ozzy's version. i'd say the 80's stuff with fenholt and donato is a lot worse compared to hughes' & gillen's versions, than this is compared to ozzy version.

  • oops, i mean ozzy's version :)

...just before anybody types something like "savoy brown fans are retarded they can't even write"

btw i own all sab albums, and i don't know savoy brown at all :)

  • wonder how much is in the archives, with Dave Walker as the singer?

sounds alright in a rough British blues boom type of way although this was the late 70s and maybe a bit dated by then. I got to see the reformed sabs at the astoria in 1999, amazing.

  • Rough voice thats suited well the style of the song, but it "destroyed" Black Sabbath identity. OO had a good idea to come back a last time for new sessions.

  • I would like to have heard Ozzy do this live. I think its a great tune even with Walker. I especially like it without the extra guitar sounds Iommi threw on during the chorus on the album version. A more straight forward power riff gives it a sort of gritty blues like sound that is just kick ass.

  • Check out the cover that Dirty Woman performed live in Mexico City of the recorded version of Junior's Eyes, those guys fucking rock...

  • Opposite, I think he could be a better choice instead of Dio. Though we wouldn't have Heaven & Hell then...

  • dave walker would have changed the black in black sabbath, ian gillam almost changed the black into purple.

  • they started out as a blues band you stupid fuck

  • Seriously. Don't be retarded. Thanks.

  • No it doesn't. Good try at a lame comeback though.

  • it's like Sabbath meets CCR but i really wish that they made the whole album with walker instead of Ozzy since the album was basicly made for walkers voice

  • where did you find that?! very cool to hear such different vocals I still prefer Ozzy's version though. The harmonica part is very cool.

  • Such a blues feel to this with this singer.

But this style isn't what made sabbath infamous. I'm glad oz came back.

  • it's good.

I always found that with Nvere Say Die, Sabbath had wanted to go back to the bluesy tones (as well as rawer production) of their early days. the only element that counterbalanced that was Ozzy's melodic lines that were the continuation of Sabbath's mid 70s progressive experimentations. It seems this version proves my theory right :)

  • That's what I was thinking.

  • I disagree. Swinging the chain may have been written for Dave Walker (bluesy), but if Geezer was planning to get back to the "roots" he would've played a Fender and not a Ric on Never Say Die. Geezer has always wanted to sound like Chris Squire of Yes, and he got some of that on Die. Also, alot of this album is written in "A," something they would've never done in the early days. Just a different turn and not backwards. Like In Through the Out Door. Both classics in their own rights

  • Sleeping Village (except intro), The Wizard, most Behind the Wall Of Sleep are in A...there's only 2 songs in E off the first album. I won't argue over their instrument choices, but I do think the sound on both records have a lot in common. This return to the basics in terms of sound doesn't apply to the music though. Iommi played what I'd call lead riffing all through the early stuff. The later Ozzy period is kind of more AC/DC-ish with lots of open chords and a higher-ended tone.
