  • Thumbs up if you used this for your own private Karaoke!!!

  • so melancholic and beautiful! love it! <3 :D

  • i want to learn to play the piano and i have no background knowledge of how to read music or anything like that....does anyone have any tips for a good place to start?

  • @johnkickass27 just Google stuff U need to learn.

  • @johnkickass27 reading music is always good start. find a good chord chart too. REALLY helpful

  • @johnkickass27 Find a local music store and ask about lessons. If they don't provide lessons, they'll likely point you towards someone who does.

  • damn, i thought i was bad ass at piano but guess not.

  • @DeliveryManBoy do some research bro, taken straight from wiki:

''During the five years following the release of The Downward Spiral, Reznor struggled with depression, social anxiety disorder, and the death of his grandmother, who raised him. During this period of intense grief, Reznor began abusing alcohol and other drugs. He eventually became addicted to alcohol and cocaine''.

  • @DeliveryManBoy If Johnny Cash were still alive right now, he would label you as the biggest dumbass ever to watch this video. Please do some research before making an objection, and please...it's spelled Reznor.

  • @DeliveryManBoy you're a fucking r-tard

  • @DeliveryManBoy Johnny Cash did a cover of this smart one.... >.>

  • i'm gonna do a cover of this song :D i love you for making this ^_^ i promise i'll credit you! :)

  • so great man!

  • bravo indeed, you really captured the pain of the song. This is THE song that has haunted me - its so simple yet so hard to perfect (you did btw). Jonny died just after the cover was released, peacefully. I think he was haunted by this song as it summed up his pain (the pain of growing old) and when NIN nails perfected the song / film clip he was able to let it all go and rest easy. You've honoured the late and great Johnny Cash, Nine Inch Nails and anyone thats ever felt the pain of growing old

  • Very cool. I love this song.

  • I'm curious, since I've been wanting to learn this song. Are you playing the bass and the treble clefs, or the base and the vocals? The sheet music I have has all 3 on it and I'm not sure which one to pair with the base if I'm not going to sing.

  • Bravo!! =]

  • who the hell disliked this i swear anybody who dislikes this is tone deaf

  • AWEASOME

  • Excellent.

  • Amazing.

  • Beautiful.

  • I love it. So beautiful, brings a tear to my eye

  • I don't really like the NIN version of this song but your playing is unbelievable.

  • I don't know which one I prefer, Johnny Cash did an excellent cover but NIN's version was so much darker and depressing Johnny Cash speeds it up a bit.

  • On the surface NIN version is more depressing until you realize that reznor was in the prime of his life when he wrote it and Cash was at th every end of an amazing one. Even Trent Reznor said Johnny took over that song and put it at a whole new level. Either way it comes down to opinion.

  • The Depressing factor (for me) is that Trent really fucked up his life for a while, so the song seems like it would have a more personal meaning to him.

  • He might have been young, but he was at rock bottom when he wrote The Downward Spiral. Cash didn't bring it to a new level, he covered it. It's up for speculation, but it could be taken that Trent was in a different place than he was when the song was written. When it comes down to it, it's still the same words and the same notes. They both sound equally depressed. Also, Trent DID write the song. I don't think he wrote the song without fully understanding its meaning.

  • It's not my opinion that Cash took it to a new level, its Reznors. TRENT said that the song belongs to Cash now.

  • @kohldstayr he didnt understand the meaning i garentee it allot of people don't...

  • @stickmymasta I "garentee" that the lyrics are not nearly as ambiguous as you make them out to be. Those of us with, at the very least, third or forth grade reading comprehension skills can understand the meaning of the song.

  • @kohldstayr I think cash did a little more than cover it. In an interview, Trent said after watching Cash's music video for "Hurt", he walked outside, sat on the curb, and cried. Plus it had a lot more meaning for Cash if you know his background, about the drug abuse, and his religious side, not to mention the death of his wife. AND, Cash covered it just before his death. Thats a little more than a cover, thats bringing it to an entirely new level.

  • @llaformer whilst Trent wrote it im sure he was more than complimented by the fact cash covered it I mean come on what an honor that must have been xD

  • @kohldstayr

the best songs ever written stems from what the writer has experienced, and I think Hurt is a very moving song. Plus, who has the right to say someone had a more meaningful experience singing it? The song is about the same thing, no matter who sings it and the meaningless banter from fans on either side. That's not fair to either Johnny or Trent to say one is better than the other..

  • Fucking class

  • fuckin....CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP . Gold!!

  • damn you're really good

    love this song by them

  • good job

  • Absolutely beautiful... wow, it sounds way better when played on honky-tonk piano, along with the pedal. Right notes, no big deal--- it's exactly like how Trent would sing it.

  • Honky-tonk?...I'm pretty sure it's not a honky tonk...

  • How long have you been playing the piano now to create such an intensive atmosphere?

  • ive been playing 10 or 11 years

  • do you have any sheet music for this?

  • nope sorry i played it by ear

  • I absolutely LOVED how you played it, i wanna play how you play it. i tried playing it but i sound crap..

  • To everyone saying he's playing it wrong;

The beauty of this song, and pretty much 85% of Trent Reznor's compositions, is that it is dischordic yet beautiful. It is imperfect, irregular, irrational, yet oh so beautiful. The music is almost human. It's supposed to sound like that.

Nine Inch Nails isn't your usual music. It is raw human emotion, with every little scar and bruise left intact and bared for the world to see.

You played the song perfectly, Thumphrey05. 5 stars.

  • Very well played indeed.

  • Best NIN piano cover on the net, but I couldn't download it, the server seems busy or someting like that..

  • one of the best songs ive ever heard

    great cover =)=)=)=)
