I know this was a joke, but everybody who comes to NY not knowing anyone, finds it difficult. New Yorkers either ignore you or they want to go to bed with you. Most already have friends, so they are not interested in complicating their lives with new people. Keep trying, you'll meet people (job, clubs, park, library, etc.)
