they arnt ignorant, its just preferance, I LOVE METAL as much as the next guy, but havnt you heard a few bands that blast beat just a lil too much? and it takes away from the song? i know i have, one of my favorite drummers in metal flo monier blast beats a lil too much sometimes, and i have to change the song, blast beats are awesome for extreme parts, but sometimes they are overused, I love em, i use em a lot, but i try to come up w/ more " grooves over it to balance it out.

Well Cryptopsy have Sold out and Flo Mounier has by letting it happen to Cryptopsy. They have turned their backs on their roots and core genre by going Death core. I mean before thy were just straight extreme Death metal, and to convert to Deathcore is an extreme insults to the fans and genre. Also-Cannibal Corpse, just because they have played with some bands that arent really death metal doesent mean they have sold out.

My band has sweeps a lot to, but only when there called for and we make it melodic and epic pretty sounding. not in audible. i prefer bands like black dahlia and abigail williams
that is 100 percent agreeable man those are my two favorite bands as of right now...but there a huge difference they both have two guitar players.....and there melodic death metal braindrill is more extreme death grind but i know exactly where ur comeing from but all three of these bands are totally diferent subgenres of death metal you know?

To have EXTREME SPEED, requires INCREDIBLE skill!! unless you can do it, or have tried to do it don't say anything.. Why? because you obviously know not of what you speak!! Untill you have tried to play ANY kind of drum patterns at 260bpm+ *and some bop and tech/brutal death is over 320+* dont say a fucking word. If you can play properly at speed and not have it sound like a fucking flam'ed out mess then you obviously have skill. Just because you are an ignorant piece of fucking retarded shit
I kinda agree with you. I love Death metal. And yes you have to be incredible skillfull to do this kinda stuff. But there are better drummers like Jazz Drummers.........try Sean Reinert he plays for Cynic and did play for Death. I mean hes amazing. Hes not all about the speed which whats drumming has become all about in Death Metal today.......I mean wheres the technicallity I mean yes there is in this, but sometimes it can just be mindless blasting and fills.
Also Gravity blasts are not hard to do. Once youve got the concept of Blasting down, Gravity blasts are a piece of piss. They dont take that much skill really.
Oh hes really good. I love the video when they take like pieces of his kit away but he still does amazing things. Just shows you that you dont need a big kit to be an amazing Drummer. Jazz drummers are just so much better, They have more skill and technicality. Dont get me wrong Death metal drummers are good like George Kollias, Derek roddy etc But when your just constantly gravity blasting for 5 minutes like this guy, it just gets boring. I mean hes good, just theres nothing new.

Haha. im still working on my Blasts and on my stamina. Cant keep my left hand going for that long. But with gravity blasts it requires less stamina because your just balancing the stick on the rim of the snare. And I'm starting to get carpel Tunnel on my right hand, its a bitch.
your starting to get carpal? how do you know if your starting to get it? so i know what to look for, also, work on your technique, cus i think bad technique can cause carpel at high velocities, unless you use french grip , which isnt "bad" technique, but has been known to cause carpel tunnel
Because I get pain in the palm of my hand near the thumb and first Finger and wrist. I dont get it all the time btw. Just sometimes. I get it at work aswell. I work in a chippy and when Im griping the thing that gets the chips out i get it sometimes. But ive learnt this thing that helps it, by doing this circular movement with the wrist.
I get it when I like start to loose stamina.....So i try and keep up etc So I tighten my grip. I can still drum through the pain, just need a bit of a break haha.
you do realize when you say jazz drummers are so much better than death metal drummers , that it doesnt make a whole lot of sense, considering death metal in the percussion area is entirely adapted from jazz, the only thing added is the double bass essentially, and its applications are different. blast beats came from jazz my friend, so you are a bit misinformed. no worries though.
Yeah, I know what you mean. But thats why their better because everything came from Jazz basically, well not EVERYTHING, but the most essential bits tbh. But I mean, just how the Jazz Drummer play and their style. Its a lot more fluent that death metal drummers......as they tend to sound the same, while the jazz drummers all sound different. It just sounds better. Also double bass wasent really added, the first drummer to use Double bass was a Jazz Drummer.

Im more impressed by jazz drummers than I was before, because ive learnt so much more about drums over the years. agreed, but keep in mind, theres always gonna be to much of the same stuff, thats just music in general, and thats the nature of percussion, it tends to loop itself and be repetative, but as long as theyre in time theyre doiing there job
Totally True man. But the french grip is the most comman, and popular way to grip the stick. And I think its just the way I play. I might be griping to hard and playing to hard so I create alot of stress on my hand. So im gonna try to play lighter and find an alternative grip that'll help me.
The jazz drummers can do alot more things, as theres less boundaries for them,a s for Death metal style.....there are more rules and ways to make it sound Death metal.
there are no boundries to death metal. jazz cant be constantly fast double bass or else people would slap you for thinking its jazz. whatever comes to a drummer naturally is their style
I know what you mean. But you can have that in jazz.....as Double bass originated from jazz. It can be fast and Constant if it wants to.....Of course it has to be in certain boundaries. But thats what I hate in Death metal drumming or even Death meta. No Boundaries......So someone can come up with a new stupid style or song....that just doesent sound good. Like Gravity Blast beats.....they dont really impress me......as everyone does em and their pretty easy.
Well the only problem with that is the genre of death metal can only have so much jazz element or it isnt death metal at that point. I think it is more about trying to get a certain sound. Maybe if it just a machine gun.
well not all death metal has to be this. i mean in slow break downs most drummers can open up to non blast beats. not trying to choose a side or anything, it solely depends on what your preference is. i prefer blast beats to jazzy things like keeping beat. and jazz/ soft rock being the birth place of modern drumming, so yes they did create many techniques. (sorry for bad spelling and no capitals/ bad punctuation)

Well obvioulsy you know more than your friends. Every style or genre has to originate from somewhere really thats how music is. Ok some people can come up with their own stuff but not many today as everythings been thought up before in other genres, people just build up on that idea then. From Guitar, Drums, Bass and keyboard styles and techniques and beats have originated and been infulenced by other genres like Jazz. Like Classical music, thats the closest genre to Metal.

I don't like this style of playing at all - It's got no soul or musicality. But I'd be stupid to dismiss it. It takes monster technique to pull off convinclingly; the one-handed rolls (in time!) are sickness...
Not much impressed! i think he's a great drummer but these blast beats get sooooo boring after some time! and by the way if you have the skills to play the freehand technique that fast, it isn't as hard as most people think!
so joe im a huge fan of yours but anyways can u give us any tips on how to develop such a quick freehand technique ive pretty much just been workn out of stick control for the snare drummer and doing rudiments with a metronome with a lot of practice but i cant see ever gettn that fast but any help would be awesome

My band has sweeps a lot to, but only when there called for and we make it melodic and epic pretty sounding. not in audible. i prefer bands like black dahlia and abigail williams

that is 100 percent agreeable man those are my two favorite bands as of right now...but there a huge difference they both have two guitar players.....and there melodic death metal braindrill is more extreme death grind but i know exactly where ur comeing from but all three of these bands are totally diferent subgenres of death metal you know?

To have EXTREME SPEED, requires INCREDIBLE skill!! unless you can do it, or have tried to do it don't say anything.. Why? because you obviously know not of what you speak!! Untill you have tried to play ANY kind of drum patterns at 260bpm+ *and some bop and tech/brutal death is over 320+* dont say a fucking word. I kinda agree with you. I love Death metal. And yes you have to be incredible skillfull to do this kinda stuff. But there are better drummers like Jazz Drummers.........try Sean Reinert he plays for Cynic and did play for Death. I mean hes amazing. Hes not all about the speed which whats drumming has become all about in Death Metal today.......I mean wheres the technicallity I mean yes there is in this, but sometimes it can just be mindless blasting and fills.

Also Gravity blasts are not hard to do. Once youve got the concept of Blasting down, Gravity blasts are a piece of piss. They dont take that much skill really.

Oh hes really good. I love the video when they take like pieces of his kit away but he still does amazing things. Just shows you that you dont need a big kit to be an amazing Drummer. Jazz drummers are just so much better, They have more skill and technicality. Dont get me wrong Death metal drummers are good like George Kollias, Derek roddy etc But when your just constantly gravity blasting for 5 minutes like this guy, it just gets boring. I mean hes good, just theres nothing new.

Haha. im still working on my Blasts and on my stamina. Cant keep my left hand going for that long. But with gravity blasts it requires less stamina because your just balancing the stick on the rim of the snare. And I'm starting to get carpel Tunnel on my right hand, its a bitch.

your starting to get carpal? how do you know if your starting to get it? so i know what to look for, also, work on your technique, cus i think bad technique can cause carpel at high velocities, unless you use french grip , which isnt "bad" technique, but has been known to cause carpel tunnel

Because I get pain in the palm of my hand near the thumb and first Finger and wrist. I dont get it all the time btw. Just sometimes. I get it at work aswell. I work in a chippy and when Im griping the thing that gets the chips out i get it sometimes. But ive learnt this thing that helps it, by doing this circular movement with the wrist.

you do realize when you say jazz drummers are so much better than death metal drummers , that it doesnt make a whole lot of sense, considering death metal in the percussion area is entirely adapted from jazz, the only thing added is the double bass essentially, and its applications are different. blast beats came from jazz my friend, so you are a bit misinformed. no worries though.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But thats why their better because everything came from Jazz basically, well not EVERYTHING, but the most essential bits tbh. But I mean, just how the Jazz Drummer play and their style. Its a lot more fluent that death metal drummers......as they tend to sound the same, while the jazz drummers all sound different. It just sounds better. Also double bass wasent really added, the first drummer to use Double bass was a Jazz Drummer.

Im just saying my Opinion really. I think one genre or a paticular style is better than the other, that all Im saying. Im more impressed by jazz drummers than I was before, because ive learnt so much more about drums over the years. I just think that people who play like this (Ok fair enough if its for that type of music) are boring really. Ive just seen too much of the same stuff.

Totally True man. But the french grip is the most comman, and popular way to grip the stick. And I think its just the way I play. I might be griping to hard and playing to hard so I create alot of stress on my hand. So im gonna try to play lighter and find an alternative grip that'll help me.

I know what you mean. But you can have that in jazz.....as Double bass originated from jazz. It can be fast and Constant if it wants to.....Of course it has to be in certain boundaries. But thats what I hate in Death metal drumming or even Death meta. No Boundaries......So someone can come up with a new stupid style or song....that just doesent sound good. Like Gravity Blast beats.....they dont really impress me......as everyone does em and their pretty easy.

Well the only problem with that is the genre of death metal can only have so much jazz element or it isnt death metal at that point. I think it is more about trying to get a certain sound. Maybe if it just a machine gun.

well not all death metal has to be this. i mean in slow break downs most drummers can open up to non blast beats. not trying to choose a side or anything, it solely depends on what your preference is. i prefer blast beats to jazzy things like keeping beat. and jazz/ soft rock being the birth place of modern drumming, so yes they did create many techniques. (sorry for bad spelling and no capitals/ bad punctuation)

Well obvioulsy you know more than your friends. Every style or genre has to originate from somewhere really thats how music is. Ok some people can come up with their own stuff but not many today as everythings been thought up before in other genres, people just build up on that idea then. From Guitar, Drums, Bass and keyboard styles and techniques and beats have originated and been infulenced by other genres like Jazz. Like Classical music, thats the closest genre to Metal.

so joe im a huge fan of yours but anyways can u give us any tips on how to develop such a quick freehand technique ive pretty much just been workn out of stick control for the snare drummer and doing rudiments with a metronome with a lot of practice but i cant see ever gettn that fast but any help would be awesome
