Just found this on the web: Oror (koun yeghir palas), cradle song, is a poem written by Rapahel Patkanian in 1857. He created his poems under the pen name of Gamar Katiba. Music anonymous.
The words are: Oror Koun yeghir palas atcheret khoup ara Nakhshoun achkerout koun togh ka vera Oror im palas, oror ou nani Im anoushigis kouneh ge dani Toun al koun yeghir, indzi al koun dour Sourp Asdvadsamair anoushis koun dour Oror im palas, oror ou nani Im anoushigis kouneh ge dani.
I don't know the name of the performer or the CD it's from. The composer is Parsegh Ganachian, who used to be a student of Gomidas if I'm not mistaken.
there's an armenian lullaby that my mother sang to me... she wasn't armenian (my dad was, but never learned the language), and my grandmother gave her the english version -- it had just a few lines... "sleep my little one, my loved one, as i rock and sing; as the bright moon watches o'er us, o'er your little crib"... does anyone know of the name of that one? or is this actually it??? thanks in advance!
a little confused two songs by this title well my grand mother hummed one of these to my dad when he was a baby dont know which one Parsegh Ganachian..a better lullaby.. or katchatorian,,,played this at his funeral...maybe we played the wrong one.....please enlighten me.......didnt grow up in the armenian...tradition to much,,,just trying to find my roots...PEACE
Parev Chiledoug, you don't have to know tons of Armenian info to be Armenian. Our recent history forced us to live all over the world and many Armenians ended up with very unique lives. If your life is such, then you're Armenian, even if you don't speak the language. As for help in figuring out which Lullaby was the one your grandma sang, it's most likely this one. Khachaturian's Lullaby does not have lyrics.
thank you for the info..he said she hummed it...that would be hard for the Khachaturian song.. so i think this was the one...mmm wonder what my family will think about that...anyway my family took a strange route to america have to tell you about it some time...PEACE
it saddens me that so many of us live away from the homeland but its nothing we could have stopped. hopefully someday situations will be better in armenia and maybe we'll recover some of our lost land and armenians can migrate back to the lands our ancestors lived in for over 4000 years. this songs got me dreaming =)
pepsi jan, intch hamov, artakark gorts es arel...shnorhakalutyun. such a wonderful piece to watch and be in. music is beautiful too, very much so. thank you *****
It's no match to your videos, with the attention to detail that you pay. Yeah Oror Eem Palas is a good lullaby, and will help many babies have a peaceful and quiet sleep when needed.
Does anybody have lyrics or translation of this song?

What's the artist's name? Not the composer, but the group who is singing it?
Thanks so much.
