I suppose the rational behind that is although it would do well with a turbo most people for real life driving would want more lower RPM torque and since it has no stock accommodation for forced induction might as well go for super charging, plus hardcore performance nuts will still be playing with turbo 7's anyway.
That things sounds sick. I always loved the rear and front looks but I just don't like the suicide doors. Why not just make it a coupe with 2 doors. But that's a sick car.

@orochiThing Turbo makes use of the huge amount of exhaust gasses the rotary kicks out. Supercharger is parasitic on an engine that doesn't need to be dragged down. Apples to apples, the turbo always makes more power.
@tyrannical Thats not true. If you turbo charge the 8, yes you would use the exhaust to increase the psi and get a better combustion, but i would prefer to supercharge so i can get that rpm to hit 9 faster. Since the 8's redline isn't as restricted as other cars, i think its better use a super charger. In the not, turbos don't always make more power than superchargers. In some tests, the super charger would make better strength on a dyno, its just situational which you wanna use.
@orochiThing The supercharger always makes less power. You are taking power away to spin the belts. You are adding more moving parts. Also it's a common misconception that the SC makes more power down low than the turbo. If you look at let's say the Pettit SC vs ANY properly sized turbo, you'll see a 1,000 rpm+ advantage for the turbo down low. The only thing the SC has an advantage is that it prevents dumb owners from increasing boost without proper tuning.

Like the turbo taking exhaust for compression but the sc takes energy from air and increase movement speed of the crank shaft. Although its not a higher psi compression rate that the turbo gives, its making your rpm spin at a faster rate with air flow than psi. Unless you cite that 1000 rpm its b.s to me
@orochiThing I'm not going to do your homework for you. Look up what a SC is and how it works. It takes power from the engine because the engine has to spin the supercharger and all it's belts. Hence parasitic loss. Meanwhile the Turbo is using "free" energy from the exhaust. You lose something (additional back pressure), but removing the cat, aftermarket exhaust, etc, all help alleviate that.
@orochiThing If you want real world numbers, go on rx8club and look up the FI comparison dyno charts. The torque is pathetic on the SC's. But if you like linear slow buildup, then maybe you'll enjoy paying a lot more for a SC kit to get a lot less power and torque.
@tyrannical I would have gone turbo if they made a kit for my car, but there was none, so I had to go with a supercharger. Alas, both still add power, and make a car funner, both have pros and cons, and it's really down to preferance. Instant power vs. Turbo lag is a common arguement.
@alexjalaff That's true. A supercharger is better than stock :) Turbo lag really isn't a problem unless you installed a huge turbo that takes a lot of exhaust to spool. Most any turbo + BC should give you 12-16 psi of boost by 3000 rpm. Watch the next time you're on the road, chances are that you aren't under 3,000 rpm, hence no lag. I usually cruise at 4,000 rpm on the highway, so that means instant full boost anytime I hit the throttle.
@torba23 best thing u can do is save up and get a t213b motor/turbo and trans way more power pllus the new rotays cant halde the abuse of a turbo well with out alot of mods
i have a problem with my rx 8 but dont want to get it checked out. it stalls when i try to go past 5,000 RPM's. just recently i was in 2nd gear automatic and pressed down the gas to take off so it went into 1st but stalled. the gears in the dashboard disappeared but the car still worked. maybe its a computer issue since its in automatic? the car runs good but it doesnt take off like it used to. everytime i try to go faster it stalls into lower rpm....
That sounds very much like a clogged catalytic converter, which is a very common problem especially in the automatic RX8's. A quick way to test it would be to just take off the cat, and drive it around the block (but be warned, it'll be VERY loud). If the problem goes away, it's almost definitely the catalytic converter. If you live in a state that doesn't require you to pass emissions tests, you might just put a straight pipe on instead, otherwise a new cat will cost at least $700.

Run a 2 stroke premix and add it into your fuel and disable your OMP oil injection if you're paranoid that your apex seals are going to go and your engine is not running right.
I've got piston cars that are less reliable, try doing a tappet and cam job on a VG30 (300ZX) Quad Cam because it pulled too much timing with a cold engine, hours of work on a car and a shoehorned engine that is not fun to work on.
so i hope you changed those rotors to lower compression rotors. if not your engine wont last long at all and good luck finding a shop that would swap the motor.
@djrecrem2k3 you port rotary motors mate. unfortunately for the renesis 13b the waterjackets sit too close that aggressive porting can cut into them and ruin the block. and a-spec in illinois can handle that
@tyrannical I do not know very much about rotaries except for your basics, but in every video, I notice these RX8's temp gauge is always reading high. Why is that? Very nice car btw.
@dethpig420 Not sure what you are looking at, but my coolant temps are almost always in the 180F range. With the AccessPort I have the radiator fans programmed to kick on at a lower temp than stock so they don't get heat soaked then switch on.
@dethpig420 look at 0:42 in the video, top left in the scangauge2. You'll see the coolant temp is 177F. On a stock RX-8, the radiator fans don't even turn on till somewhere around 200F.
rx-8s have alot of potential. that rotory just needs a turbo on it to get anything done. it may take some money but a sequential turbo set up on a car that revs to 10k rpms and u have yourself a killer car.

What's the spool like with a GT3071R? When are you getting full boost?

@ethosflux can hit 12 psi at 2800 rpm. since cruising is usually done around 3500-4000 rpm, you're pretty much always able to get full boost.

@tyrannical I do not know very much about rotaries except for your basics, but in every video, I notice these RX8's temp gauge is always reading high. Why is that? Very nice car btw.

@dethpig420 Not sure what you are looking at, but my coolant temps are almost always in the 180F range. With the AccessPort I have the radiator fans programmed to kick on at a lower temp than stock so they don't get heat soaked then switch on.

@dethpig420 look at 0:42 in the video, top left in the scangauge2. You'll see the coolant temp is 177F. On a stock RX-8, the radiator fans don't even turn on till somewhere around 200F.

rx-8s have alot of potential. that rotory just needs a turbo on it to get anything done. it may take some money but a sequential turbo set up on a car that revs to 10k rpms and u have yourself a killer car.

a stock supra does it in 4.5.

i knew it. and i just compared all the nissan and toyota credibility to mazda.
you know....godzilla is a worldwide acceptance of japanese technology.
and supra is the only 6 cilinder car that can be upgraded all the way to 1200 hp.
so that's the leage i was talking about.

i see .. :) so then you waren't talking about stock cars at your early message? but only at there tuning capability's? cause then (my opinion) you forgot the mitisubishi..(3000gt) and yess you where right at the mazda's credibility alltough the rotary engine could get upgraded to above 1000hp.. :) but not as stable as a 6 cilinder.. one more question then.. what about honda nsx?

can someone please tell me how to make my rx-8 faster with a $500 budget. i know it's not much but i want to at least do 0-60 in about 5 secs. and i know adding a cold air intake would help but what else can i do?
