  • @NoRosesForMe I completely agree its so sad that he isn't around anymore he had such a soothing voice

  • I am in tears.I am. Sometimes I have to be in a certain mood to see Rory and certain songs stir my emotions. The footage here is just beautiful. He IS the most beautiful thing that ever happened to music....besides Miles Davis. Rory was...IS...very precious and special beyond words. He was not meant to be here for very long. I dont think so. But its not fair and hurts. And sometimes when I hear him I ask myself "Why him? Why did he have to leave?" Love the footage. THANK YOU xx♥ Peace to ya.

  • He is looking so fine here - in his element and as happy as ever - lovely to see : )

  • This is stellar footage. Thanks SO much for posting this.

  • Where to find this documentary to download? Thanks!

  • the most humble man withe GREATEST talent RIP Rory

  • i'd swear that same plane is still flying for Aer Lingus :-)

  • Thank you for this!!!

  • Rory, playing a Yamaha, WOW!

  • whoa what a kick ass tune. So slinky, so suave just Gallagher doin his thing.

  • what is the song he play with the acoustic guitar at 2:35 ??anyone?

  • @tonyhawk55 ..its basically Pistol Slapper Blues...Check it out on you tube ! Cheers !

  • @lovelyflares yeah i recognized the intro but the chords seems different

  • Whao, I just adore this tune, but to hear this version is mind boggling. river, where did you come up with this. Cool, very cool.

  • id say that guitar in the shop sold for an EXTRA high price!!

  • @bigtflanagan .. It may be still there !! The shop certainly is ! Cowleys music store, Mc.Curtain Street. Cork. Ireland.

  • saw him live in 1980, Incredible

  • sooo good

  • Legend.

  • I'm so glad I was living in Europe in the early 70's and got the chance to see Rory and other great bands of that era. Rory of course was always my favorit! To see him live in his prime was something you never forget!!

  • Thinking of a lovely guy today....Rory, you are missed! March 2, 1948 – June 14, 1995

  • was there in macroom for the first concert . saw the GOD .i was listed as the hells angels mascot for the day being only 16 and pissed . cannot explain what he means even to this day . i cry and pray every day for jesus and rory

  • What Guitar is it at 6:39 ????????

  • @CaptainCangaroo ha,... a Yamaha

    Model: SX800B

  • What a beautiful guitar sound!!

  • any one know where this version of million miles away is from?

  • @woodjoewood That version of "Million Miles Away" is from the 1978 Macroom Festival .

  • ah thank you thank you thank you

  • 5:20 the last man coming out of the plane has a Fender bag, I want the same!

  • I don't understand the German but it still makes for great viewing! Tons of footage I hadn't seen before in there, thanks for uploading! :) Anyone know what guitar he's playing in brute force & ignorance there? Looks real nice to play.

  • i think he's playing a Gretsch Corvette.

  • R.I.P rory gallagher RIP phil lynott Irelands finest

  • Pure talent, precision and creation.

All the young Couchsurfers (especially musicians) that come to my house get to learn about Rory and they are just thrilled and excited after hearing his Signature Masterpiece « A Million Miles Away » in so many fantastic versions, because Rory was always innovative and never repeated himself.

So you people here should write to the nubile Rolling Stone journalists and editors who dont know crap about Guitar and set them straight in their jackets!

  • And you know what?

All hundred of them great Guitarists "Dead or Alive" on this list will gladly agree to that.

Read some of their comments about the G-Man on Wikipedia.

But to the "unknowing" Rolling Stone" crew, I shall say this !

"Make up for that BIG mistake and give Caesar Rory what he deserves and especially let the young generation discover the best Kick-Ass artist of Guitar and cords ever!

He is on YouTube, so enjoy an immense supernatural talent from whom music just flows.

  • About Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Times.

Well, I am glad that Rorys name, Rory Gallagher that is of course, is not part of this list.

After all alleged number ONE Jimmy Hendrix as he was being asked the question: "How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the World?" answered very humbly and rightly so: "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher" So Rory is just the ultimate Guitarist in history made and in the making! He is THE «O» in Capital Letter & thus ABOVE them ALL.

  • Nice anecdote, but never realy happend.

This story pops up every now and than, but even Rory's brother said it is a story, and nothing more than that.... Jimi never said it, however it would be great if he had....

  • DirkjeA is right. Never happened. Jimi was so busy he didnt know what was happening around him. A LOT of guitarists who made that list complained about being on it, when their own heroes didn't. RS magazine is mainly focused on Rock from the US standpoint, and Rory wasnt as visible in the US as the Stones or The Who - though Rory didn't give a damn for publicity of that nature anyway. Give it a rest, or help and pitch in on the Wikipedia, help immortalize his life there- anyone can volunteer

  • OH my god, i love you so much. Thank you sir.

  • Yes I love it. Never really seen much footage of Rory off stage or talking about things, so this is a real treat! Thankyou!

  • what is that first song in the video,,,please?

  • Shame on you! :) It's an A Million Miles Away (AMMA) ! :)

  • Looking at 9.35. Something interesting! :)

  • Rory said he wanted "fender rock and roll"...those are .008 strings...I always thought he played at least .010's

  • Rory used 10-38's santacruezz,.008's would be too light especially when playin slide on strat,I'm sure you can get different gauges with rock'n'roll strings.

  • Yes, Fender Rock 'n' Roll strings were (still are?) available in several gauges.

  • They still are. Also those for the Gibson SGs- it's where Derek Trucks was able to handle playing without a pick, he learned to play slide while only 9- same age Rory taught himself to play, too..

  • wow,

thanks a 1000 times for posting these clips

  • Ted Mckenna - Scotlands greatest drummer, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He Riverbluesman

    That is something this documentary!!!

Still looking all the parts, thnxxx so much

for sharing, never saw this before

The Germans loved Rory I know, great documentary they made.

That his music will live on

  • pipers jahrmarkt seems a nice place to have fun (lol)

This is an excellent footage coming out of nowhere. I wish Rory had the recognition he deserved during his life time...far away above all of commercial fakes

  • does anyine know what amp rory is using in the recording studio and what guitar.

  • Rory used Vox topboost amps and several guitars, mainly his extra worn strat.

  • Great bit of film, it's unusual to see Rory without his well worn strat and Vox AC30 though!

  • Fantastic footage. The reason Rory wasn't using his well worn Strat in this clip was because this was a rehearsal in The Boat Club,Cork. This was actually drummer Ted McKenna's first ever gig with Rory, hence the footage of him sitting on the plane listening to the music on his headphones......he was learning the songs!!Great stuff!

  • fabulous footage...a legendary artist, a king of the bass and a amazing and powerful drummer...a historic performance in the beloved Ireland...Christmas time by misterious mr riverbluesman!

  • Too much!!!

This is like walking into my ultimate fly-on-the-wall timeslip fantasy......thanks so much Mr. Riverblues. God Bless you Rory (and lovely motor Donal) XX

  • I'm glad to be a YouTube member now . What an outstanding video . Rory Gallagher , never saw him live but he's my guitar hero .

    RIP Rory .

  • Lovely footage of Rory.

  • AWESOME VIDEO THANK YOU!!

  • This is exceptional footage of Rory. Very highly appreciated indeed!

  • Thanks so much for this, I love all this behind-the-scenes stuff and I've never seen this footage before. Excellent!

  • ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

  • Great video, thanks so much for finding and uploading this one, never saw any if it before.

It's good to see Rory relaxed on the plane, i think flying became a bit of a problem for him.

  • Yes, Rory in good form! What do you think of his "calling mr.Dylan" joke? Is there Bob Dylan on the plane or it's a name of beardman (soundtech guy possible. Many times saw him on tours with Rory)?

  • Excellent,Rory looks very relaxed and plays a guitar that I've not seen before. Great stuff, Thanks!

  • They ride the swing twice, with and without the cameraman. Did they suffer vertigo?

  • Is Father Christmas called Riverbluesman in the Czech Republic? Please keep something to be put under our Christmas trees on the 25th!

Thank you so much for these great vids!

    Cheers,

    martine

  • Why a -1?.....not anymore!!

  • dont feel alone, DaveMc, I got a minus fucking five, just for expressing a few very well known facts... but Ive learned there are "fans" of Rory Gallager who cant participate in discussions about his career, or god forbid his private life, w/out a seriously radical recital of their own!!!

  • hey davie, don't feel so bad, you said nothing wrong here that i see. nor did deans.i know i have hit the wrong hand by accident before (and go oh shit!) and you can't change it after you hit it. might have happened to you by anyone.

or am i the only idiot that has done this before?

  • What you're guys talking about?

    What means "-1"?

  • Superbe. C'est pas souvent mais toujours sympa de voir et entrendre Rory hors scène. En plus j'ai toujours eu un faible pour Ted Mc kenna

    1000 Merci

  • It is the feeling that it skids in time, and it wants to go to the live broadcasting meeting place of Rory Gallager for!

  • Thank you, this video makes me happy.

  • VERY exellent!!! I`m gonna view it again!

  • This is great stuff...nice one Joe.

  • Excellent video riverbluesman, haven't seen this before! 5*

  • Good.
