I am in tears.I am. Sometimes I have to be in a certain mood to see Rory and certain songs stir my emotions. The footage here is just beautiful. He IS the most beautiful thing that ever happened to music....besides Miles Davis. Rory was...IS...very precious and special beyond words. He was not meant to be here for very long. I dont think so. But its not fair and hurts. And sometimes when I hear him I ask myself "Why him? Why did he have to leave?" Love the footage. THANK YOU xx♥ Peace to ya.
I'm so glad I was living in Europe in the early 70's and got the chance to see Rory and other great bands of that era. Rory of course was always my favorit! To see him live in his prime was something you never forget!!
was there in macroom for the first concert . saw the GOD .i was listed as the hells angels mascot for the day being only 16 and pissed . cannot explain what he means even to this day . i cry and pray every day for jesus and rory
I don't understand the German but it still makes for great viewing! Tons of footage I hadn't seen before in there, thanks for uploading! :) Anyone know what guitar he's playing in brute force & ignorance there? Looks real nice to play.
All the young Couchsurfers (especially musicians) that come to my house get to learn about Rory and they are just thrilled and excited after hearing his Signature Masterpiece « A Million Miles Away » in so many fantastic versions, because Rory was always innovative and never repeated himself.
So you people here should write to the nubile Rolling Stone journalists and editors who dont know crap about Guitar and set them straight in their jackets!
All hundred of them great Guitarists "Dead or Alive" on this list will gladly agree to that.
Read some of their comments about the G-Man on Wikipedia.
But to the "unknowing" Rolling Stone" crew, I shall say this !
"Make up for that BIG mistake and give Caesar Rory what he deserves and especially let the young generation discover the best Kick-Ass artist of Guitar and cords ever!
He is on YouTube, so enjoy an immense supernatural talent from whom music just flows.
About Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Times.
Well, I am glad that Rorys name, Rory Gallagher that is of course, is not part of this list.
After all alleged number ONE Jimmy Hendrix as he was being asked the question: "How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the World?" answered very humbly and rightly so: "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher" So Rory is just the ultimate Guitarist in history made and in the making! He is THE «O» in Capital Letter & thus ABOVE them ALL.
This story pops up every now and than, but even Rory's brother said it is a story, and nothing more than that.... Jimi never said it, however it would be great if he had....
DirkjeA is right. Never happened. Jimi was so busy he didnt know what was happening around him. A LOT of guitarists who made that list complained about being on it, when their own heroes didn't. RS magazine is mainly focused on Rock from the US standpoint, and Rory wasnt as visible in the US as the Stones or The Who - though Rory didn't give a damn for publicity of that nature anyway. Give it a rest, or help and pitch in on the Wikipedia, help immortalize his life there- anyone can volunteer
Rory used 10-38's santacruezz,.008's would be too light especially when playin slide on strat,I'm sure you can get different gauges with rock'n'roll strings.
They still are. Also those for the Gibson SGs- it's where Derek Trucks was able to handle playing without a pick, he learned to play slide while only 9- same age Rory taught himself to play, too..
pipers jahrmarkt seems a nice place to have fun (lol)
This is an excellent footage coming out of nowhere. I wish Rory had the recognition he deserved during his life time...far away above all of commercial fakes
Fantastic footage. The reason Rory wasn't using his well worn Strat in this clip was because this was a rehearsal in The Boat Club,Cork. This was actually drummer Ted McKenna's first ever gig with Rory, hence the footage of him sitting on the plane listening to the music on his headphones......he was learning the songs!!Great stuff!
fabulous footage...a legendary artist, a king of the bass and a amazing and powerful drummer...a historic performance in the beloved Ireland...Christmas time by misterious mr riverbluesman!
This is like walking into my ultimate fly-on-the-wall timeslip fantasy......thanks so much Mr. Riverblues. God Bless you Rory (and lovely motor Donal) XX
Yes, Rory in good form! What do you think of his "calling mr.Dylan" joke? Is there Bob Dylan on the plane or it's a name of beardman (soundtech guy possible. Many times saw him on tours with Rory)?
Bob Dylan was booed off the stage at the 1965 Newport Jazz Fest for only doing a few songs and they were electric, possibly the discussion about the box amp Rory and Gerry are having reminded Rory of that, and hes speaking it to Tom ODriscoll (Rorys best friend and long time roadie) who is sitting in the seat in front of him ...great job on these volumes, RBMan!!
dont feel alone, DaveMc, I got a minus fucking five, just for expressing a few very well known facts... but Ive learned there are "fans" of Rory Gallager who cant participate in discussions about his career, or god forbid his private life, w/out a seriously radical recital of their own!!!
hey davie, don't feel so bad, you said nothing wrong here that i see. nor did deans.i know i have hit the wrong hand by accident before (and go oh shit!) and you can't change it after you hit it. might have happened to you by anyone.
