Why can't I find this song? On Sirus this morning it said V Bellini Norm Svanir le voc....the version was sung by a tenor or rich baritone, it was lilting and fun to listen. Try as I may I cannot find it unless it it buried somewhere within the opera itself....? Help me I must have it lol.
I had never heard "Norma" and this little video was very intriguing...great summary of a wonderful story and the perfect exerpts of the music were included...to make me want to use this opera in my class study. Thank you for your efforts.
Great introduction to the opera! Am a great fan of italian opera (love, love, love Del Monaco's recording of Turandot along with Schwartzkopf and Callas), but somehow never got to know Norma very well. Making up for that now!
@bloodymary1109 It isn't del Monaco in Callas' studio "Turandot", if that's the one you mean; it's Fernandi. Del Monaco did do a studio "Turandot" with Borkh and Tebaldi - and also some live recordings of "Norma" with Callas that have survived.
What fun this is! Ross is wonderful, particularly in the opening of "In mia man". Amazing low register. The poor Adalgisa nearly comes to grief in the big duet, but redeems herself the second time through. Del Monaco is a pig, but what a voice.
Del Monaco had the bigger balls of his generation. It sounds! One said too Ross was one of the rare with a voice as big as his: for sure not a tiny one! Thanks again coloraturafan!
An opera production where the lead singers were aloud (by the conductor) to let their top- and closing note's shine as long as they wanted, a 'habid' that is considered 'not done' nowedays. A pitty ;-)
Where are the sopranos, like this MAGNIFICENTLY exciting Elinor Ross? Even in her day she was second string at the MET. We are surely starved for singing like this these days!
in the duet Adalgisa lost some bars....that happens....the face of afliction....but after she came and ended well

For coloratura fan -- Is there a possibility that the melody of this aria was adopted or adapted from the Russian folk song STENKA RASIN?

MDM in his late fifties? Wow, the man was almost indestructible. Thanks for a great O in 10 M.

Correction, miscalculated his birthdate, but he was in his fifties here and had been performing for about a quarter century.
