Hagler was one of my favorite fighters of all times but he had the tendency of adapting down to the opposition. When hefought Duran he should have destroyed Duran and yet, he chose to win an easy decision. Against Leonard MH decided to fight righty the first part of the fight and lost many rounds. I remember watching the fight in disbelief as Leonard got more confidence. Now I understand that Hagler was not very strong mentally or that he needed a powerful motivator. With Minter/Hearns he had.
Roberto Duran. His record speaks for itself. "The greatest lightweight of all time", One of the best welterweights of all time", and a very good middleweight. I think Howard Cosell is an idiot.
Pryor was exactly where he knew he belonged; and that was at 140 not even 1 of the original 8 weight divisions. Fighting and struggling vs. an over the hill Cervantes and a blown up featherweight in Arguello. Pryor knew his place, and that was away from fighters like: Duran, Leonard & Hearns!
@MDSJR67 Not really, the fight was fought very close in, where hand speed means less. But, you're right, Duran wasn't slow, he just wasn't super fast either, but he definitely had good hand speed and put punches together well. But, he had problems with guys that moved.
I don't even remember what that remark was in response to, but I probably meant his legs.
@TA152H01 -Duran had great hand speed. Watch the films a little more closely. Man had absolutely no weaknesses as a fighter, but his demeanor and unsportsmanlike conduct, as well as quitting against leonard, weigh against him a bit
@loyaldude10 Watch Duran Leonard 2. Granted, Leonard was a much more talented fighter, and probably at his sharpest, but you can see how poorly Duran was at trying to follow him. He got hit at will, and didn't have a chance in Hell at catching him. Even the movement from DeJesus gave him problems, and he wasn't at Leonard's talent level. Duran had legs of stone. From the waist up, a very good fighter, except for the heart.
@TA152H01 -Not tot ake anything away from leonard, but he ran in the 2d Duran fight. With that style, duran would not beat him. Buthe had a warrior's heart. He quit becuase Leonard was embarrassing him, and his ego couldnt take it. Look at the hagler fight for more proof about Durna's heart
@loyaldude10 Leonard moved, that's for sure, but he hit Duran harder than he ever had been hit in his life. He hammered Duran that fight, but sadly all the people remember is Leonard moving. I think it was the 4th round when he basically took Duran's heart with a body shot Duran never recovered from. It sounded like a bomb going off.
Duran/Hagler was a glorified sparring session. Duran was happy to lose, but not get embarrassed, Hagler was happy to win. Both got what they wanted.
He is one bad motha, especially at lightweight! i would love to see a Shane Mosley vs Duran at lightweight, Roy Jones said Mosley was one of the best lightweights of all time, along with Pernell Whittaker.
dam de jesus knocked him down on the same round with the same left hook, awesome, he was the first to knock him down, and he did it twice. De Jesus was a great fighter, very complete. Was the first to defeat duran and take the lightweight title, and was the ONLY one to beat him at lightweight. One of the best Puerto Rico has offered.

Duran in his prime. He was one bad mutha. I'd put my money on him against any lightweight in history

I think an in His prime Aaron Pryor could possibly have beaten Duran at Junior Welterweight.

I don't agree. Duran was too tough. People tend to judge the older and heavier Duran, who was a mere shell of himself.
Soulblackman 2 years ago 2
Easily. Duran was too slow.
TA152H01 2 years ago
@TA152H01 I don't agree with Duran being slow,He was pretty damn fast in the first fight with Sugar Ray Leonard.

Duran was amazing! not even a single stumble or wobble when back to his feet; he went right back to pressing forward.
