@Ironmannatio Audi S3 and 335M are not new so and pretty cheap so obviously the price tag will be appealing. Give it a few years and the when newer & more expensive cars come out then the R will become cheap and appealing to you perhaps. Yea bloody joke. It actually has the same engine as my MK5 GTI except its tuned with upgraded engine components. When i look at that engine bay everything looks the same except the engine cover.

well i had a supercharged cobalt (til someone ran a red light).... i put 49k on the car in 1 and a 1/2 years pretty much stock..... never had any problems with it.... and this may will be my 2 years with my ss/tc..... not only do i get compliments all the time on the car (took that gay ass wing off go check my vids almost everyone loves how clean/simple/sleeper my car is) i've also had 300+whp and 340+wtq on stock everything (clutch, motor, turbo) for about 30k so far, there is 45k on the car
btw i've had 7 friends so far that drive either gti's or gli's (5 years old or less... in one case only a year old...) in my car and told them all i have is a tune, drop in air filter, and downpipe and ran 12.8@112.8mph........ 2 of them sold there cars to get either a 4 door or 2 door cobalt..... and 2 of them now own a ss/tc and a gti/gli lol..... maybe you should do yourself a favor and give the car a chance before you judge it.... enjoy the stock twinscroll k04, don't call it crap and hide

My Mom's previous Volvo had a dying transmission and many other previous repairs before then at that age. (and I know, its not German. Its Swedish.) Only did driving in town to get us to school. @mikepartyboy Nothing wrong with it. Just add the Haldex Gen2 controller and you can shift the bias to the rear. Understeer gone. They only make the street version bias toward the front wheels because it's more predictable for average drivers. You're somewhat misguided.

Honda's actually make pretty good used cars. And Honda's rev pretty good... to get serious will require nitro and huge turbo to compensate for the (lack of) torque.
VW's are like cheaper BMW's... affordable refinement, pretty good interior for the price and engines with torque. Just crank dat' turbo on yer GTI and you are set to go. This Golf R is FAR better than R32 .. superior fuel mileage!!! Very good.

vw WAS the peoples car when it was founded, but that was a long time ago. Today they make the same tech savvy cars like any other car maker. As a good example, look at the DSG or Dual-Clutch automatic which was developed by vw. u can now find it in audi's ,bmw's and merc's.
vw doesn't technicaly make bentley or audi, but they have been owned by vw for a long time. Since the economic downturn screwed porsches plans to buy over 50% of vw, they ended up owning porsche too.
anyway this Golf R compete with the Audi S3, kills the BMW 130i and eats the B Class from Mercedes for breakfast. Not bad for a Volkswagen eh ? ;) VW is much better than it's competitors such as Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Ford, Chrysler, Hyundai etc.

I have a 2008 R32 and this looks to be a worthy replacement even with the loss of the r32 exhaust note. The only really question is how much does it weigh? The R32 is a 3,500 porker (that I love). I hope they cut at least 500 pounds on this generation.
I was anxiously waiting for this car to be revealed. It's much much improved over R32. The coolest I liked is the 0-60 time. It's just 5.5sec with dsg and 5.7 with manual :)
Plus fuel consumption is greatly improved over R32. It's just 8.3/100km
this is the kinda car you wanna be in at the red light against a ricer. they'd be like haha he's in a crapy hatchback so he'll rev his engine, then when the light goes green all he'll be seeing is the rear of you car.

I agree with you on the design Soskouy, the front looks good but the rear lights just look far to wide.
As for the engine though it all done in the name of cutting emissions which isnt such a bad thing and its much faster than the old r32.

very nice . with an apr stage one chit it runs 322 hps and 321 tq for just $ 600 . the car dosent weight much so it will be pretty fast

do you mean it makes 321 Nm at 322hp? I think stock it makes 350Nm from 2500-5000, while hp peaks @ 6000 or something

it is the fastest golf available at the moment, and it does have more power but is heavier because of the 4wheel drive and such. this will be faster when it is released :)

Honda's actually make pretty good used cars. And Honda's rev pretty good... to get serious will require nitro and huge turbo to compensate for the (lack of) torque.
VW's are like cheaper BMW's... affordable refinement, pretty good interior for the price and engines with torque. Just crank dat' turbo on yer GTI and you are set to go. This Golf R is FAR better than R32 .. superior fuel mileage!!! Very good.
A person can actually appreciate Honda and VW.

Yeah, I agree about it being better than an r32. People will miss that vr6 sound, but that's probably it, once they drive it. VW is leaping beyond BMW though.

Absolutely GORGEOUS car, in every respect! Looks classy, yet agressive. Very upscale Audi-like interior. Decent gas mileage for an AWD 266 HP monster. And 0-60 in 5.2 seconds! What an engineering marvel. VW is cutting edge! Great job! Now PLEASE bring this car stateside!

I love how VW kept the overall look the same with some tweaks here and there. A lot of car companies usually start to feel like they have to make dramatic changes visually to their top selling models but just ruin what most consumers loved in the first place. Great job VW for keepin it real!

vw WAS the peoples car when it was founded, but that was a long time ago. Today they make the same tech savvy cars like any other car maker. As a good example, look at the DSG or Dual-Clutch automatic which was developed by vw. u can now find it in audi's ,bmw's and merc's.
vw doesn't technicaly make bentley or audi, but they have been owned by vw for a long time. Since the economic downturn screwed porsches plans to buy over 50% of vw, they ended up owning porsche too.

I have a 2008 R32 and this looks to be a worthy replacement even with the loss of the r32 exhaust note. The only really question is how much does it weigh? The R32 is a 3,500 porker (that I love). I hope they cut at least 500 pounds on this generation.

I was anxiously waiting for this car to be revealed. It's much much improved over R32. The coolest I liked is the 0-60 time. It's just 5.5sec with dsg and 5.7 with manual :)
Plus fuel consumption is greatly improved over R32. It's just 8.3/100km
