The stone over the body of the unknown warrior brouht tears. I remember those mosty young men whose lives were thrown away in that stupid fiasco in the year 1914 and the years after. I remember too those of my own kin who perished in both of the world wars. I those who start wars were made to serve in them.......
"They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them"
I actually sang in the funeral, I'm two to the left of the boy with the medal in the panning shot of the choristers, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! (Interesting note: there were more than two buglers playing in the last post, but they were hidden by the shape of the organ loft so couldn't get in shot.)
It was one the most amazing things I've done to date! I do, I sing countertenor now though (used to sing bass but then there were no altos at my school!).
I think that this is the "Gibbons" Amen - no 662 in the Church Hymnary 3rd Edition. Its used alot in St Giles' Edinburgh. I love it, very boring bass part tho... :P
"Did the band play the last post and chorus....did the fifes play the flowers of the forest"
Bless the new breed, and honor the old.
