Be wise with your money, people. You can still spend money just don't spend it frivolously. If you don't spend money, then more jobs will be cut which will only hurt the economy more. Why can't people realize this?
Bitchin' intro sequence .. I think this captures the first light of resolution, which is hope. I think with confident predictions from administrations and purchasing from local goods, we'll be out of this sooner than doomsayers have predicted. Maybe i'll vacation abroad after all.
the federal bank. our favorite president seperating the us dollar from the gold standard as equal not. wall street. bad credit choices. government printing money with a value of 3 cents to the dollar as current rated in today standards. people buying too much crap they don't need or could ever realistically afford. there is a reason i never have or never will use a credit card. lets just spend our way into more debt with higher interest not. peace. gregg
Back in the 80's there were several journalist economic articles about foreign debtor shanty towns with life expectancy half, 80% unemploy, and no basic services. There were 2 schools of thought what caused them. The Reagan GOP said it was government interventions in business. The liberal Dems said it was loan misrepresentation by banks cutting up the civilian land use. Either way the world bank and huge deficit spending under military authority was the treatment. Sound familiar?
its not an emergency or a crisis, its an outright bleeding of the public funds - all of them. And its the vampire bankers and the richest of the rich who are getting a whole new generation of workers with less benefits, no savings, and stuck doing lousy jobs to make rich people richer. End of story. It was fun.
Seriously, private companies are going to have to start hiring locally, hiring people with limited skill sets for middle-class income, and start doing this in volume. Nothing else works.
Big government is not the solution; big government is the problem.

I don't know (I liked you..now I'm at a loss) ....seems like your selling out...don't it? Lost your edge....just another sell out...no wonder the world is going to crap.
Can't we just chalk this recession up to the normal business cycle. Sooner or later people have to take a break from spending because either their wants and needs have been satisfied and/or their bank account and credit limits have been maxxed out.
Until such time as people have new wants and needs and the money to satisfy them, economic activity is going to be slower than usual.
I like that the obviously well to do lady doesn't want to figure out whos responsible and just wants it fixed. I acknowledge I just made a very prejudiced comment.
I dunno what the media coverage is like over in the states, but the UK news broadcasts are just bumming everyone out at the moment with their "everyone and everything is doomed" panicmongering... which can only make matters worse.
I really think we would not have as many recessions if the the government wasn't so involved in our economy. Our federal reserve system creates an economic bubble that collapses every seven years. Think of the money that the govt gave out so we can build more homes. That created a housing bubble and now the housing industry collapsed. Doesn't that sound like our current federal reserve system?
Until we change policies that make it cheaper to have American companies produce things oversea and ship it here, the recession will continue. Also, big businesses deserve to go under just as the government would let mom and pop businesses. We are victims of the old boy network keeping their friends in money.
I agree with you on that one. The bush years were terrible. I mean we had a light recession but jobs came back and lower taxes than any previous presidents. I think those years were so much worse than now. Now is much better. The trillion dollars spending bills that getting pushed through are awesome and I hope we keep the good times going with Obama because I love Obama and Obama loves me. Thats all I really need from any president.
The world economic crisis has been engineered by the global elite (international bankers, high ranking political figures etc), to get the people into greater debt and to give them an excuse to create a new financial world order, and as a precursor for a world currency.
I agree with you on that. I mean the media was reporting on how bad it was during the Bush years but the minute Obama got elected they seem to let up and all the problems they were reporting evaporated from the news. Maybe its Obama's magical presence that healed our land of its misery or perhaps the news is engineered by the liberals to create a sense of panic in the populace.
I wish the news media -were- liberal so we'd actually have some solid investigative journalism. But, instead, they just quote the latest diatribe from the House minority leaders.
You mean historically economic recessions last an average of 10 months.
But it started in December 2007, so it's already fourteen months long and it's still not over, so . . .
I think probably either we're in a -normal- situation and the recession is going to end tomorrow, or we're in an -unusual- situation and the recession is never going to end and we're all going to die.
Oh didn't you hear Starbucks lowered their prices and now you can get a combo meal with coffee and sandwich for 3.95, so he probably didn't spend 5 dollars. But even if he did good for him because if no one spends money the economy's never gonna bump back
buying coffee at starbucks supports the economy poorly. aside from low wages, the coffee beans themselves are not from your local economy. Youre pushing almost 80% of your coffee money overseas.
I drink coffee too, but i don't claim it helps the economy.
Buying locally grown foods and REAL made in USA (hell, even made in Canada) products instead of the made in china "save a few bucks and buy another one in a month" products support the economy better.
right, because everything we buy is global, which needs to stop before any country wil stabilize.
The US dollar is going to become the next peso by 2010. America owes more to the rest of the world than all of the debts between all the other countries combined.
Mix those two with a little climate change, peak oil, and a printing press and you have global economic crisis.
there are countries with HUGE agribusiness but are 3rd world because it's all for 1st world distribution. USA! USA! :P
No, a major reason why we're in this crisis is because the wrong type of people are spending. People with the money to spare should spend and people that buy things with credit should not be spending. Of course, the people with the money have the money because of their propensity to not waste money so this crisis will continue until prices on all goods hit a drastic low.
It makes me wonder what state the economy would be in if the media hadn't started a huge panic a few months ago. That's when people stopped buying new things and saving their money under their mattresses to have money during the crisis. If people hadn't known about the crisis than there really wouldn't be such a crisis in the first place. If you tell people things are going to be bad, things will be bad.
Banks win either way (save or pay off debt; or buy something with your government handout) - its just if you spend you're helping people stay employed and things being made, which also need shipping and selling so more employment there etc
Oh trust me.. We will get out of this mess! The USA will be on top again and the envy of all other countries as we were before! Everyone MUST stay positive!
thenewvoice8" You think your all thats good? Wishing ill on another, or in this case a country, shows that you're not that good of a person. My sister work at her place for 15 years and recently got laid off. Shes a good mother/wife. Tell me why you think she and my nieces deserve to be in this predicament. How the hell could you say you can't wait for US to draw its last breath. Is my Sister greedy? Im I greedy for working 9 til 5, 5 days a week to help my family? Youre the true scum here.
Perhaps you are unaware of the illegal invasion of Iraq, the posturing against Russia with your Missile Sheild, or Iran - or indeed what of your recent past in Central & South America - the death toll caused by American Capitalism and greed has been the worst ething on this planet since WW2
That ignorant americans claim it to be something else, something great shows how little they know of their foreign policy.
get out of this mess" yes! The USA will be its former self again" yes! envy of all other countries" why strive for that? evny builds hate. I rather our country be the best that we can be, and do it with class.
I know you think people do but in all my travels I haven't met them.
Of the Western countries it has the highest Murder Rates, Extreme Poverty, no National Health Service, Shite record on the Environment, look at its Civil Rights Record, too many lawyers, real poor education system, it has by far the most religious nutters, George Bush's homeland - the list goes on my friend.
But no, no envy - give me an NHS and secular country anyday.
Regarding your sister and her job I didn't say anything about her!
in respect of the US economy and employment. however, then americans are to blame. And not just the Fat Cats who rob blind - but the stupid workers who didnt make strong unions
too greedy and too busy chasing a shite dream
You should also not under a socialist system your sister would get taken care off in tough times
but hey, not in america - the land who leaves its own citizens out to dry
look here, you and I both know that America is in a way, one of the most influential country out there. Lets not bullshit ourselves. Look at Austrailia, how much does America influence your country culturally? From the music, to the films, even our economy is effecting other countries.
Chasing shit dreams? you need to get your head out of your ass, and stop stereotyping. All we do here is try to live, and make the best out of our time like every other human being.
America made it possible for you to go onto your computer (American operating software), log onto the internet (American origin), sit in front of your web cam (strong American influence), wearing blue jeans and sun glasses (modern design American), and plagarize Sam Harris (American) on his views regarding Atheism after flying from your miserable island of origin to Australia (Wright Brothers). So perhaps you can list CIA coups but on your life America has had quite a positive influence.
ha ha ha - China gave you paper, we gave you penicilin, tarmac, the steam engine - eehh - let us not talk about who made what - as I didn't do any point of it and quite frankly - besides - you would lose - just consider what the UK made possible for the world - so don't come wide with me arsehole.
Of late what has american given us? Iraq, Global Financial Crisis, Bush, Environemtal Ignorance, Christian madskulls, nuclear bombs, al-queda, saddam - you gave us that too - thanks. ya cockbag
I never highlighted the negative impact of the U.K., now did I? I decided to give a superficial response because I felt your dialogue until now warranted it. You believe that the U.S. has provided more negative than positive, however it is impossible for you to truly know if that is the truth. Take away any seemingly good or bad contribution and an infinity of alternative histories arise, some better some worse. On a practical level this view isn't of much use. We want to be able to...
pass some judgement on the actions of a country or individual. Even then your laundry list is open to interpretation. Lets take nuclear weapons for example; good or bad? Are the means by which humanity will cease to exist or are they the ultimate deterrent to full fledged war and the reason why we haven't had a WWIII? Is the development of nuclear technology defined by the weaponry or does the advances in energy, medical science, and geology/biology off set some of the perceived negative?
My point being that these are all highly complex issues and simply listed grievances on a youtube comment hardly does them justice, even the most seemingly trivial ones. Its nothing more than knee-jerk anti-Americanism.
If they were a detterent - then why has their been countless wars and indeed an attack on american soil and against embassies and indeed a navy vessell - they are a detterent in an age long gone.
if they worked, well, I would expect them to deter people - since they don't your point is as fucking useless as you are!
Also the advances in nuclear technology and nuclear weaponry are not the same - what a straw man argument you try to build.
I didn't say they prevented every violent action but rather full fledged war (WWI & WII). The proxy wars and sporadic attacks that have occured since their development fall into several categories. 1.) Countries with nuclear weapons attacking countries without nuclear weapons. 2.) Nuclear nations fighting proxy wars which contain the violence. 3.) Non-nuclear countries fighting amongst themselves. 4.) Militants with no set borders attacking nuclear nations (who do you retaliate against?).
Post WWII a nuclear nation has not recieved an attack from a border constrained government on their soil. Don't you think that is a bit odd? Pakistan & India, U.S.S.R. & America, nor Isreal, France, or Great Britain have received an attack from a easily identified and constrained enemy.
eh yes I think it is odd as India & Pakistan are busy enough scrapping with each other, USSR with Chechnyia and Georgia and such places and Isreal with Syria, Lebannon, Egypt, Palestine.
Most wars post WWII america has been involved in though in an aggressive way so it is kinda mute all in all
India and Pakistan have not had a full fledged war. Russia, Chechnyia and Georgia fall under category 1. Isreal v. Arab states falls under category 4. (They may/probably supply militants with funding who do not represent any set state, Hamas is the only exception but attacking Palestine with a nuclear weapon would also cause Israel extinction, directly or indirectly). You are validating my point.
If by "aggressive way" you mean direct military actions you're simply wrong. Cont...
If you mean instigating through the CIA or similar means you're wrong again. If you mean having relations in any form with at least one side of a conflict you are correct but the same could be said for any power in the world.
P.S. You still haven't addressed my primary point of my second comment.
Death Penalty is debatable but it probably doesn't. The justice system in general most certainly does work as a detterent. Imagine violence as the justice system with nuclear anniliation the most severe of consequences. A leader(s) may choose to go to war if, at worse, they loose 5% of their populace but have terrority/resources to gain. However, if the loses could total 100% they will think again.
I certainly can say that the US influence has been negative and I can point to millions of people who have been at the end of the US advances in weapns tech, the environment and many other things to make my point.
I am not saying it is all bad - but as things stand is their any other country in the world fucking up the entire world as much is the US is?
You prop up dictators, invade folks - you are the scum of the earth - end of story
oh and you can't plagerize when you begin with "as sarm harris said better than I" - if you are referring to my video - if you are talking about in a text comment - then space is often limited and - if my opinion sounds like his on the subject of idiots who believe in god - then that's because they are pretty fucking similar!
And yes, I can list CIA coups - I can list broken UN Resolutions too - or we can talk about torture, human rights abuses, extraordinary rendition or National Health Care!
oh - so I get you, you think you can watch a tiny bit of something, get half a picture, then you can make your opinion up and indeed then make false remarks about it - nice one!!
And indeed one that is irrelevant - well fuckface - if you watch that, or any of my religious videos you will note continual citations to Dawkins, Hitchens, Dennett, Harris and many more - as I actually read right through books, I watch complete videos but I ain't a brainless wankjob like you
Sorry, I have a particular pet peeze regarding hearing the views of others being parroted. Something that is extremely common amongst fans of Dawkins etc.
P.S. In text, a citation should be rendered immediately after the use of another position or a reference of their work. Verbally, its usually provided at the start (not after 2 minutes). Regardless, this is probably the most trivial point.
eh? so what you think that people shouldn't repeat what other folks said? Thats a bit fucking stupid - since well that is how we learn and if someone can say it better than we can - it makes sense to say it that way.
p.s. I dont give a flying fuck what you think is a social norm regarding citation as words and ideas are free and not owned nor do I subscribe to these strange impositions and rules. Fuck copyright too I say!
For someone who accuses others of strawmans (falsely) and don't hesitate to use them yourself. I never said not to repeat the words of others (look up parroted in a dictionary). I do however believe in proper citation. Intellectual property is property like any other and all that is expected is to give credit.
If you think the Gov. is going to help ,then your not to smart. The new boss is the same as the old boss.Just a Differnt name ...socialist countrys never last..
I think people spend too much money on what they really don't need. If we lived barely on just what we need, and not go too extravagant (Little bit of fun or luxury is ok off course) on material possessions , we will be good.
Good for you tRes. I hope you become very successful. Althought I'll never be able to ask you to marry me if you're a big shot. So I'm kinda torn..... :)
wow, you are right, the guy at 2:00 is!!! an idiot,...lol........."I'm a fan of the last government, I think we should stop spending"....Bush left us in the hole, what the hell does he mean the last government did not spend
This is the fault of governments pressuring market forces to do things that are anti market... like loaning money to individuals and companies that have no proof they could ever pay it back. If it was only here and there, the impact would not have been so bad, but because of government coercion and threats of regulatory fines, financial institutions made decisons that if left on their own, would have never made.
I really don't think it matters who's fault it is. We all just need to work together to get us out of this mess and to make sure it doesn't happen again.
One more thing...Lori...thanks for helping keep it real. Seriously, laughter is the best medicine. Maybe ppl can get back to the important things in life in this environment (family, friends, the resident!!
What got us into this mess? Unfettered greed run wild, too little oversight of big investors & corps, too much Fed rate-lowering activity and dumb f-in banks. Mix in NAFTA, sub-par schools and a society that forgot the diff. tween RIGHT and WRONG at every level and what do you get? THIS!! Time to pray?!
I blame three groups. The credit rating agencies, for getting the risks on those mortgage backed securities so massively wrong. The banks, for letting their lending standards slide and turning a blind eye toward - even encouraging - dishonest mortgage applications. And the government, for failing in its oversight duties despite plenty of warnings of impending doom.
I blame big oil. Everything was going fine until the price of oil hit the roof. Then everyone had to decide whether to eat, put gas in the car or pay the mortgage. If oil didn't hit the roof people could afford to pay their mortgages. Oil was what put us in this mess first. Check out oils profits the last two years.
They're just using you, resident. I congratulate you on your newfound fame, but don't come crawling back to us when they chew you up and spit you out.
Nice one, Lori. Kinda felt a subject like this needs more time, though, but then again, I know how numbers rule in the business world, and we gotta obey the numbers. :)
What's with RussiaToday and the Resident?! Are they working together now? What's going on!? Someone explain this to me!

3.low GED,Bed spending of federal reserves
4.people not buying American products because its cheaper in china etc same can be said about companies.

Well the crisis effects the whole world so...
OriginalBeast 3 years ago
right, because everything we buy is global, which needs to stop before any country wil stabilize.
USA! USA! :P

That one guys solution stop spending! That's what made the mess in the first place. We need to spend spend spend
OriginalBeast 3 years ago
No, a major reason why we're in this crisis is because the wrong type of people are spending. People with the money to spare should spend and people that buy things with credit should not be spending. Of course, the people with the money have the money because of their propensity to not waste money so this crisis will continue until prices on all goods hit a drastic low.
P00P00Head 3 years ago
It makes me wonder what state the economy would be in if the media hadn't started a huge panic a few months ago. That's when people stopped buying new things and saving their money under their mattresses to have money during the crisis. If people hadn't known about the crisis than there really wouldn't be such a crisis in the first place. If you tell people things are going to be bad, things will be bad.
OriginalBeast 3 years ago
Banks win either way (save or pay off debt; or buy something with your government handout) - its just if you spend you're helping people stay employed and things being made, which also need shipping and selling so more employment there etc

Frogger0neXx 3 years ago
ha ha ha - what an ignorant fool you are.
Perhaps you are unaware of the illegal invasion of Iraq, the posturing against Russia with your Missile Sheild, or Iran - or indeed what of your recent past in Central & South America - the death toll caused by American Capitalism and greed has been the worst ething on this planet since WW2
That ignorant americans claim it to be something else, something great shows how little they know of their foreign policy.
so who are the scum, really?
thenewvoice8 3 years ago
get out of this mess" yes! The USA will be its former self again" yes! envy of all other countries" why strive for that? evny builds hate. I rather our country be the best that we can be, and do it with class.
Frogger0neXx 3 years ago
who envies the US?
I know you think people do but in all my travels I haven't met them.
Of the Western countries it has the highest Murder Rates, Extreme Poverty, no National Health Service, Shite record on the Environment, look at its Civil Rights Record, too many lawyers, real poor education system, it has by far the most religious nutters, George Bush's homeland - the list goes on my friend.
But no, no envy - give me an NHS and secular country anyday.
Aussie scenery also way better!

Envy, you make me laugh - ha & ha

look here, you and I both know that America is in a way, one of the most influential country out there.
Frogger0neXx 2 years ago
America does have influence and I have NO doubt I can point out far far more of the Negative impact it has than any small positive impact.
Look, you can keep your head up your arse for all I care, believe your shite media and its propaganda.
Your music yes it is good - but I'd happily go without it for an end to your non stop aggression and your environmental policies.
America is based on greed, selfishness and ignorance
3 words for ya - National Health Service
ps, I am not an aussie
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
America made it possible for you to go onto your computer (American operating software), log onto the internet (American origin), sit in front of your web cam (strong American influence), wearing blue jeans and sun glasses (modern design American), and plagarize Sam Harris (American) on his views regarding Atheism after flying from your miserable island of origin to Australia (Wright Brothers). So perhaps you can list CIA coups but on your life America has had quite a positive influence.
Orlan54 2 years ago
ha ha ha - China gave you paper, we gave you penicilin, tarmac, the steam engine - eehh - let us not talk about who made what - as I didn't do any point of it and quite frankly - besides - you would lose - just consider what the UK made possible for the world - so don't come wide with me arsehole.
Of late what has american given us? Iraq, Global Financial Crisis, Bush, Environemtal Ignorance, Christian madskulls, nuclear bombs, al-queda, saddam - you gave us that too - thanks. ya cockbag
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
I never highlighted the negative impact of the U.K., now did I? I decided to give a superficial response because I felt your dialogue until now warranted it. You believe that the U.S. has provided more negative than positive, however it is impossible for you to truly know if that is the truth. Take away any seemingly good or bad contribution and an infinity of alternative histories arise, some better some worse. On a practical level this view isn't of much use. We want to be able to...
Orlan54 2 years ago
pass some judgement on the actions of a country or individual.
Orlan54 2 years ago
My point being that these are all highly complex issues and simply listed grievances on a youtube comment hardly does them justice, even the most seemingly trivial ones. Its nothing more than knee-jerk anti-Americanism.
Orlan54 2 years ago
If they were a detterent - then why has their been countless wars and indeed an attack on american soil and against embassies and indeed a navy vessell - they are a detterent in an age long gone.
if they worked, well, I would expect them to deter people - since they don't your point is as fucking useless as you are!
Also the advances in nuclear technology and nuclear weaponry are not the same - what a straw man argument you try to build.
now, go fuck yourself ya fucking reject moron
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
I didn't say they prevented every violent action but rather full fledged war (WWI & WII). The proxy wars and sporadic attacks that have occured since their development fall into several categories. 1.) Countries with nuclear weapons attacking countries without nuclear weapons. 2.) Nuclear nations fighting proxy wars which contain the violence. 3.) Non-nuclear countries fighting amongst themselves. 4.) Militants with no set borders attacking nuclear nations (who do you retaliate against?).
Orlan54 2 years ago
Post WWII a nuclear nation has not recieved an attack from a border constrained government on their soil. Don't you think that is a bit odd? Pakistan & India, U.S.S.R. & America, nor Isreal, France, or Great Britain have received an attack from a easily identified and constrained enemy.
Orlan54 2 years ago
eh yes I think it is odd as India & Pakistan are busy enough scrapping with each other, USSR with Chechnyia and Georgia and such places and Isreal with Syria, Lebannon, Egypt, Palestine.
Most wars post WWII america has been involved in though in an aggressive way so it is kinda mute all in all
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
India and Pakistan have not had a full fledged war. Russia, Chechnyia and Georgia fall under category 1. Isreal v. Arab states falls under category 4. (They may/probably supply militants with funding who do not represent any set state, Hamas is the only exception but attacking Palestine with a nuclear weapon would also cause Israel extinction, directly or indirectly). You are validating my point.
If by "aggressive way" you mean direct military actions you're simply wrong. Cont...
Orlan54 2 years ago
If you mean instigating through the CIA or similar means you're wrong again. If you mean having relations in any form with at least one side of a conflict you are correct but the same could be said for any power in the world.
P.S. You still haven't addressed my primary point of my second comment.
Orlan54 2 years ago
and the Death Penalty is also a detterent, don't ya know!!!
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
Death Penalty is debatable but it probably doesn't. The justice system in general most certainly does work as a detterent. Imagine violence as the justice system with nuclear anniliation the most severe of consequences. A leader(s) may choose to go to war if, at worse, they loose 5% of their populace but have terrority/resources to gain. However, if the loses could total 100% they will think again.
Orlan54 2 years ago
yes, because you are only capable of superficial.
I certainly can say that the US influence has been negative and I can point to millions of people who have been at the end of the US advances in weapns tech, the environment and many other things to make my point.
I am not saying it is all bad - but as things stand is their any other country in the world fucking up the entire world as much is the US is?
You prop up dictators, invade folks - you are the scum of the earth - end of story
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
You say I am only capable of being superficial (knowing next to nothing about me) and then proceed to completely ignore my argument, brilliant.
Orlan54 2 years ago
oh and you can't plagerize when you begin with "as sarm harris said better than I" - if you are referring to my video - if you are talking about in a text comment - then space is often limited and - if my opinion sounds like his on the subject of idiots who believe in god - then that's because they are pretty fucking similar!
And yes, I can list CIA coups - I can list broken UN Resolutions too - or we can talk about torture, human rights abuses, extraordinary rendition or National Health Care!
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
I only watched the first few minutes of the video and I don't remember a reference (not citation) to Sam Harris, regardless thats irrelevant.
Orlan54 2 years ago
oh - so I get you, you think you can watch a tiny bit of something, get half a picture, then you can make your opinion up and indeed then make false remarks about it - nice one!!
And indeed one that is irrelevant - well fuckface - if you watch that, or any of my religious videos you will note continual citations to Dawkins, Hitchens, Dennett, Harris and many more - as I actually read right through books, I watch complete videos but I ain't a brainless wankjob like you
now, go fuck yourself
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
Sorry, I have a particular pet peeze regarding hearing the views of others being parroted. Something that is extremely common amongst fans of Dawkins etc.
P.S. In text, a citation should be rendered immediately after the use of another position or a reference of their work. Verbally, its usually provided at the start (not after 2 minutes). Regardless, this is probably the most trivial point.
Orlan54 2 years ago
eh? so what you think that people shouldn't repeat what other folks said? Thats a bit fucking stupid - since well that is how we learn and if someone can say it better than we can - it makes sense to say it that way.
p.s. I dont give a flying fuck what you think is a social norm regarding citation as words and ideas are free and not owned nor do I subscribe to these strange impositions and rules. Fuck copyright too I say!
thenewvoice8 2 years ago
For someone who accuses others of strawmans (falsely) and don't hesitate to use them yourself. I never said not to repeat the words of others (look up parroted in a dictionary). I do however believe in proper citation. Intellectual property is property like any other and all that is expected is to give credit.

THIS!! Time to pray?!
oblibious47 3 years ago
