The big corporations will rule our government by sponsering politcal canidits and use them as slaves to push there agenda through congress, 9/11 building 7 hahahahahahahahaha *explosion*
Once government claims the right to regulate something then they will later do as they please with it. I say keep them out of the internet regulating biz altogether.
net neutrality ensures even distribution of ideas and concepts... its like freedom of speech. yes, it easy to see why ISP should have the right to their own property but this is where you draw the line. the corporations are still going to cut a profit, they might as well not be evil in the process.
On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart took up the issue of "net neutrality" and Senator John McCain's efforts to create one of those ironically named pieces of legislation that sounds like it is going to deliver something good -- in this case "Internet Freedom" -- but would actually make the Internet suck out loud, forever and ever. The McCain's Act should be correctly called: "TELECOMS' FREEDOM TO CONTROL INTERNET CONTENT ACT"
Hey how come the americans get this control over the internet, they don't own it, a small country in europe run by vampires does, but anyway it's shouldn't be americas choice
LawlietWannabe - America doesn't have control over the internet... Americans have control over Americas networks... no one has control over the whole thing... because the internet isn't much of a thing at all... it's just a series of connected things...
My understanding is that you can have a fast connection to your ISP and a website can have a fast connection to its ISP but that net neutrality legislation would prevent the telecoms with monkeying around with the speed at which packets travel from the website's ISP to yours.
Telecoms can make them all go fast or all go slow, but they can't make one political candidates packets slower and another candidates faster.
The wire from one ISP to another is just a data cable owned by a telecom.
Ya, lets have a bunch of bureaucrats in our already gigantic government controlling the internet! Doesn't that just sound like a swell idea for liberty and choice?
You ignorant liberals are not witty. You're just 4 cretins who took the left's political cheese that claims net neutrality is about fairness. When really if it's implemented, the policies enacted will just result in less freedom for the internet user. And the big government control freaks & their followers like you will be to blame.
candidskeptic, you are such a dumb fuck its mind blowing.
Net neutrality STOPS your net provider from slowing or outright blocking you from getting information.
John McCain says he wants to remove it because it will be a new way for companies to make money for the economy.
That sounds fair.
Until you find out he has bin getting large "campaign contributions" from companies like tele-com, and other net providers. Then you realize he's just selling out our first amendment rights.
Actually I do inform myself on the issue. I don't just look at the superficial intent of a proposed policy. I actually focus on how the policy will be implemented in real life. And I don't like freedom & choice being taken away from the internet user (like myself) just because some leftist politicians & their minions want to institute their socialist conception of fairness.
Net neutrality is currently not a law. Its an unwritten rule among various net providers not to block or slow any and all content on the internet, some though, don't follow this rule, Comcast is one of them. (they are also a campaign contributor of McCain)
The Government wants to make this rule a law that all net providers have to follow. Clearly this pisses off the net providers that don't follow it. So they are "insisting" McCain stop this law from being made.
Just because you say there is an unwritten rule in place, that does not make implementing government control over the internet the next logical step.
And wow, Comcast contributed to McCain's campaign. So does that then mean that McCain can't have a valid opinion on net neutrality? There's no way McCain's words could be truthful because he received aid from Comcast........ And I'm the 'dumb fuck'?
Net neutrality is another leftist dream of instituting their demented conception of fairness.
You probably don't even realize that sites like Youtube are able to run BECAUSE of Net Neutrality. Youtube is a site where people can openly voice their opinions and people are just as able to listen those opinions, allowing people who share the same ones, to converse. Like if you wanted to talk about how you feel the government wants to take away our rights, you have the ability to find others and talk about it.
Remove Net Neutrality, and you WILL lose that ability.
I'm going to say this really clear so you can understand.
Net Neutrality has nothing to do with the government. Net Neutrality is an unwritten rule among various net providers like Verizon, that says none of them can block or slow any information on the net. The Government wants to take this rule, and make it law. A law that says NOBODY can control the information on the net.
The "Internet Freedom Act" will remove Net Neutrality making it so net providers can block information they don't like.
The current issue of Net Neutrality has everything to do with the government. It is about the government enforcing net neutrality, essentially charging different rates for different sites (which can be compared to purchasing cable television). I'd rather the free market take care of this issue.
And how about the property rights of ISPs? They should be free to control their own content and how their users receive it. Internet access is not a fundamental right. Maybe in Finland, but not the US.
candidskeptic - here's a scenario for you... net neutrality fails... your isp is paid by bing and metacafe... suddenly you can't go to youtube anymore and google is blocked too... see the problem here?
Net Neutrality is about the government enforcing....net neutrality?
Epic Fail=You
Right now, Net Neutrality is in effect, not by law but by the unwritten rule. Also right now, the government has no control over the net. The Government wants to make the rule written, by making it law. Once it becomes law, nothing will change.
also, at what point does government become corrupt? Is your neighborhood watch leader trying to over water your lawn?
No I said the current issue pertaining to net neutrality is the government enforcing it. Pay attention. But, how could I expect someone who writes "Epic Fail=You" to comprehend what I'm conveying?
"Once it becomes law, nothing will change"? Wow! What a big assumption. Once again, you, like a good leftist, are too focused on intent, & not on implementation.
You seem to think net neutrality is perfect & that all opponents are 'dumb fucks,' as you put it. Check out HandsOffTheInternet, smart guy.
wow, it really cant just be hammered into your head no matter what eh?
Well I'm going to say this one more time, after that I really couldn't care less if you agree or not.
Net Neutrality prevents anybody from restricting information on the internet. The Government wants to make it a law, and not just a rule you are expected to follow.
Making it law, does not change what it does, or how it does it.
If you like having your information picked for you by your provider then you should be fine.
and yes, When McCain is given campaign contributions from a company that goes against Net Neutrality, his opinion on how Net Neutrality is bad is automatically void.
Unless his goal was to simply LOOK like somebody who was selling out the American people and their rights.
'Somebody who was selling out the American people and their rights' by being against a huge government controlling the internet under the guise of Net Neutrality?
Give me a break. Your collectivist logic is ridiculous.
you want to back up your claims with some logic, or is that asking to much of you? If you want you can just blame the government again, you seem to be very good at that.
I don't want this government controlling the internet I use. *Net Neutrality* is just their cloak that they use to make people think they are trying to making things fair, when really they are just granting themselves more power over the internet. It is about implementation, NOT intent.
I'm not a leftist, just as you may not be an uberconservative...as I was implying. I'm an independent that likes free access to information. Call me a Marxist, but I don't like big business controlling what I'm allowed to view.
However, that said, being that we're having his conversation on YouTube (as others have pointed out) makes your whole defense seem...well...interesting. YouTube could very well be a website that is filtered by some ISPs, in this "brave new world" you support.
You ARE the dumb fuck. You sound like a person with a hidden agenda trying desperately to sway people against something we want. You are either horribly mis-informed or a government schill in disguise. either way, it should be obvious to you that your lies are not working to persuade us against keeping the net open.
I've let my agenda be known. But I love your conspiratorial claim that I could be a government shill despite the fact I don't want to grant the government control over the internet.
Sorry for not jumping on the collectivist bandwagon. And I don't really care if i persuade you or not. I am just voicing my opinions on the matter. It's fun getting you leftists riled up. So, I'm not really surprised that people who go to the Daily Show for their source of news are not being persuaded by my points.
If Net Neutrality is removed, Websites like Youtube, will be completely blocked to people who use net providers like Comcast, or Telecom. I can't say the same thing for net providers like Verizon because they follow this rule by their own free will.
Comcast won't want to let its customers view information that could hurt their company, so clearly any website that would let people openly speak their mind would be bad.
Enjoy being fed absolute bullshit while being told its soft serve.
Wolf, if candid doesn't get it, you should just give up. If he doesn't understand that Net Neutrality isn't a government conspiracy and powergrab, I'm not sure what good talking to him actually does.
How someone could interpret fair and impartial internet access to the internet as the government "granting themselves more power over the internet" is beyond me.
I guess voting is really the governments way of gaining more power as well. Or, perhaps, impartial use of the roadways too.
The best thing that the regulation has going for it is the Orwellian name. Who could oppose "neutrality" for an information carrier? (See "Patriot Act.")
Bob Kahn, Internet Protocol's co-inventor, called the term net neutrality a "slogan" and states that he opposes it. He has warned that "nothing interesting can happen inside the net" if net neutrality strictures become legislation. "If the goal is to encourage people to build new capabilities," Kahn stated, "then the party that takes the lead in building that new capability, is probably only going to have it on their net to start with and it is probably not going to be on anybody else's net."
JiveDadson - so by allowing isps to restict the internet... the internet will be better?... it might make more profit for the isp... but how can the user possibly benefit from their internet being restricted... and how can the internet grow when it is being restricted... you are waving the anti-regulation flag while advocating for internet restrictions...
And I do not care if someone calls me a blabber-mouth and what I say bullshit. I recognize name-calling for what it is. I have a rule. Before I hit the "send" key, I look for the word "you." In debate, the word has no proper function.
As I said, Robert Kahn and others more knowledgeable about the subject than I can make the case better. I just wanted to point out that it's big players playing for big stakes. There are even more oppressive laws in the works. I'll tend to those. :-)
JiveDadson - Robert Kahn, in his speech which you quoted, also spends time to remind people that the internet is a series of interconnected networks... the lack of net neutrality will mean that isps can disconnect some networks from others... how is limiting networks from others a positive thing for the internet...
putittogether - resorting to name calling that's fine... but to preach bullshit is not... Net Neutrality has nothing to do with the government controlling the internet... it has everything to do with the government telling the isps that they cannot blockade the internet by accepting payment (more like bribes) from companies... you can tell me to do my homework if you want... my advice to you is to do the same... if you value freedom (as your channel states) please get informed
I miss it too, a little bit, but I realized when we were filming this that after 18 episodes I really had no other jokes. Hence just repeating the old ones. Ryan's Risk joke was pretty great though.
andrewh23 - we were making fun of the large amount of misinformation and confusion surrounding the subject... to fully understand what it is we included another video with a better description...
thetimman00 - in most places isps have monopolies on the area... towns grant them this permission to keep infrastructure costs down... to change isps wouls be a long process...the option would be distorted internet or no internet... also if the isp throttles certain sites... the user might not even know he's being limited other than the fact that he might hate a site for having crappy load times... but would he blame the isp or the site... covert douche baggery...
lol where i live the only cable u can get is comcast lol which i must admit is the shit cuz the internet is the shit but down here its only comcast or dish network or direct tv lol
The mere suggestion of corporatised control over the net shows two things - (a) Corporations seek to gain 'lawful' control over things which truly are 'essential services' and (b) they presently don't have it - otherwise they would not be lobbying the politicians.
Providing a profitable service via the net is totally different to controlling the net for profit. They and the GOP cry 'Market freedom' at the total expense of personal freedom and liberty. HYPOCRITES!
JiveDadson - how do you determine if the internet is doing well... to me I determine that if it stays open... the issue here is the isps have the potential to bad things like specific throttling and blocking. you can talk about how they might not... but just look at Germany where T-mobile blocked skype... and last time I checked we have T-mobile here as well...
JiveDadson - Net neutrality would not open up every internet connection to unlimited download/upload speeds... the thought of that is ridicules... all it says is that an isp cannot fuck with the openess of the internet by throttling or banning certain sites... there would be no benefit to the user of not having net neutrality laws... it would be like if shaws paid the police to block people from shopping at stop & shop...
"Net Neutrality" is a cleaver name for price controls. The people here have it all wrong. Google is pushing for it. The owners of the networks are against it, naturally. Net Neutrality will prevent the networks from giving a lower rates to those who do not need much bandwidth, like Mom's blog, and more for those that use a lot of bandwidth like HD horse porno videos.
Price controls always lead to shortages. In this case, it will be bandwidth shortage. Be careful what you ask for.
Hey, moron...they already have price controls. You know that little number you see followed by "mbps"? Yeah, that's your speed. Net neutrality has zero to do with being able to change those as an ISP.
Christ at least have a rudimentary knowledge of the subject before posting.
JiveDadson - you're just flatout wrong... Net Neutrality has nothing to do with paying for a given speed of access... it has everything to do with keeping the internet open to restrictions by the ISP
I love how you spoofed your own "McCainTruthProject" channel. I'm sure not everyone got it. but for those of us who have seen it. it's fucking hilarious.
great job on this episode all of you. 5 stars. you all keep getting better and better.
We figured that even people who hadn't seen it would laugh, but those who HAD seen it would get the bonus extra layer. Hell, Josh and Ryan hadn't seen a few episodes of it. -Zac
Net Neutrality is long overdue...I don't think slayerr understands the principle of what this legislation would do, if enacted. The amount of freedom this would...free up...is interesting, if anything. Since I live in an area monopolized by comsh*t, they call the shots. They put caps on uploading and downloading, and I have heard of blocked and/or URL redirections quite frequently.
This is anything but "socialism," as applied to the internet. Really, it's quite the opposite.
EoCx - well I'm pretty sure they'll still be throttling on download and upload speeds, but it'll be universal bepending on the speed you pay for... it just wont do that to particular sites and so the internet will stay open...
-cue dramatic music and change to gray scale- slayerrptl wants the internet to be left alone, but yells at other people who want the internet to be left alone...sounds like someone's been standing to close to the Bush administration!
I was readin' about this today. The giant ISPs (With out fiber optics) would have to do a national rebuild of their network. The ISPs would start going back to charging for the time the internet is used, not a flat rate. Sites think they'd get a better shot at sucess, but you can't be sucessful if nobody is online because of the pay for as much time as you used. It seems to me the only ones benifited are the ISPs.
This has been flagged as spam show

Socialists that download porn all day want people who use 3 bytes of data a day to subsidize them. This will also have the effect of killing the internet, which is the end goal.

You ARE the dumb fuck. You sound like a person with a hidden agenda trying desperately to sway people against something we want. You are either horribly mis-informed or a government schill in disguise. either way, it should be obvious to you that your lies are not working to persuade us against keeping the net open.
devildad1620 2 years ago

WolfRester 2 years ago

JiveDadson 2 years ago

JiveDadson 2 years ago
JiveDadson - Robert Kahn, in his speech which you quoted, also spends time to remind people that the internet is a series of interconnected networks... the lack of net neutrality will mean that isps can disconnect some networks from others... how is limiting networks from others a positive thing for the internet...

putittogether 2 years ago
putittogether - resorting to name calling that's fine... but to preach bullshit is not...

HYPOCRITES!

JiveDadson 2 years ago

-Jory Caron

Okay, I removed the comment. I'll let Robert Kahn and others explain. They have more than the 250 characters that YouTube allows available to them.
JiveDadson 2 years ago
"Net Neutrality" is a cleaver name for price controls. The people here have it all wrong. Google is pushing for it. The owners of the networks are against it, naturally. Net Neutrality will prevent the networks from giving a lower rates to those who do not need much bandwidth, like Mom's blog, and more for those that use a lot of bandwidth like HD horse porno videos.
Price controls always lead to shortages. In this case, it will be bandwidth shortage. Be careful what you ask for.
JiveDadson 2 years ago
Hey, moron...they already have price controls. You know that little number you see followed by "mbps"? Yeah, that's your speed. Net neutrality has zero to do with being able to change those as an ISP.
Christ at least have a rudimentary knowledge of the subject before posting.
picklebarrels 2 years ago
JiveDadson - you're just flatout wrong... Net Neutrality has nothing to do with paying for a given speed of access... it has everything to do with keeping the internet open to restrictions by the ISP

EoCx 2 years ago
EoCx - well I'm pretty sure they'll still be throttling on download and upload speeds, but it'll be universal bepending on the speed you pay for... it just wont do that to particular sites and so the internet will stay open...
