Those pianissimi!!! so risky haha!! incredible... what a beautiful sound! it seems like he was taking a shower, singing just for himself. However, he was in front of thousand of people, and televised for another hundred of thousands...Pippo io t'amo!!!
There is something unsurpassingly beautiful about his singing. At the same time, his voice here is, to me, broken. He relies on the head voice, which is GORGEOUS, but it is completely disconnected from the rest of the voice. He is only 52 at this point, at which time a tenor should still be in his prime. He music is stupendous. His voice was already fading. What might have been?
Always a musician first. A supreme example of aging singers battling against eroding technique with breath and soul. Sure, the voice could be better, but Di Stefano could always sing as if the composer wrote the very aria for him. Bravo!
Quite beautiful, especially this late in his career. His middle voice is still there and of course his pianissimi were always beautiful. A voice for the ages

@Ax008Al
Vous pouvez l'écouter ici sur YT en 1949 (27 ou 28 ans).
Voir Le Roi d'Ys GDS Recital in Toronto in 1949 (Rare).

Absolutely incredible. The control that the man has for his high notes is jaw-dropping.

There si no use to look for errors or mistakes. Pippo is a Greck God, and being such, has some human characteristics.
We don't have to compare among legendary singers, we only have to praise them.....

2:21-2:42 sounds as good as anything the "young" di Stefano could have sung.
Who's to say this tour was a disaster?

As Leonardo Davinci is to art - Di Stefano is to singing
