  • The 307 is only good for cruising.. I have one in my limo, and it won't turn past 4,200 RPM.

  • @qwertywrangler I cant say that... I beeat the tar out of my 307 and that car was a blast to drive even stock, the factory 3:73 gears probably helped but I got it down to a 15.71 quarter mile before switchin for the 455. Not too bad.

  • @hotrodoldsman Yeah, that's not too bad in this case. What's the 455 running?

  • @qwertywrangler Ive only had it to the track once so far(was hoping for another trip this summer but poof its gone!), but it ran a best of 12.71 with a 1.71 60 ft on bfg radial T/As with a slipping trans, check my youtube channel, my buddy recorded it. Listen in the video, you can hear me have to let off each gear to let the tranny shift! Thats first on the list!

  • i like your hurst, but I'd rather keep mine matching numbers.

  • that new motor u put in it is only good if its original. ;)

  • @CBrian2012 Yea ok. Thats BS, the work I would have to do to a 307 to make it fast, I'd destroy my factory motor, but dont worry... my #s matching motor is on a crate, waiting for the day this is a big dollar car. untill then, my no way in hell factory 455 will have to do!

  • @hotrodoldsman who says its always about being fast. o.O if all u want to do is to b able to drive fast ur just goin to get ur self killed an u would b a DA. and if u did any mods to the car then it wont b worth much unless the idiot coming along is a DA too. if u want a fast car then get something else an dont screw up a perfectly good one. i would love to get a hurst for my dad bc he used to have one, it would take him back so to speak, an i would prob end up with it. which would b awesome!

  • @CBrian2012 Who are you to call someone a DA(dumbass I assume) because they dont do what you would do with they're own property? I dont care if they take a origional 70 hemi cuda convertable and make a 13"wire wheel wearing hydrolic jumping low rider out of it... if they are enjoying the car, thats to them, I may think thats a waste of the car... BUT it certainly is not my place to berate them over it, I just wont do that with mine. Besides, we're not talking hemi's here, its a $2000 Hurst...

  • @CBrian2012...hurst olds cutlass, if you want one, go get a job and buy one... they ARE out there. I bought mine needing paint for $2000, I supose you think I should have just let them crush it? I have put 100s of hours of my OWN work into just getting this car to where it is, so once you put anywhere near that sort of time into any car... then you can have an opinion, but even then keep it to yourself, no one wants to hear your shit. Speaking of car, do you even have a car?

  • As long as you stay with Oldsmobile its not such a big deal! If You put a chevy stroker in the Hurst that would suck and be a waste....I have an 83' H/O with a 403 Olds motor and Im keeping it in there, car sounds great and have good HP.

  • my H/O does 12 flat in palmdale

  • Nice car. A co-worker of mine had a '85 442. bought it brand new. It had the same motor. quick for the time, quicker than my '77 cutlass with the 350 olds motor.

  • @christinaandzack Well then I guess I dont have to tell everyone how big of a tool you are! I hope your kidding.

  • i just jizzed in my pants a lil bit when i saw this video

  • Jullian would be proud boys

  • my 89 lac with a smog and muffler delete, 14.9 1/4

  • @mikedaman454

Is it called "muffler delete" if it fell off? lol!

  • It's not always about power you fools. This is a pretty damn nice car and you bash the owner because it is underrated?... Simply all of you who bash the owner simply can't appreciate what you've got or you have nothing close to what this thing is.

  • @Sarcasticscum Man if all the haters could see this thing now with my new motor! Thanks for the comment awile ago, its one of the highest rated!

  • I have a 1983 hurst olds 15th aniversary version of these things sitting in my carport. it got in a wreck before we got it so the engine had to be replaced. The new Engine in my hurst is a special racing edition engine so it goes fast!!! My parents gave it to me and i have a sweet license plate that says beauty and the beast because im the beauty and my special edition racing engine hurst is my Beast!!!!!!!!

  • Well dont be stingy! get some videos or slide shows of the car and motor! I'd like to check the beast out!

  • It was 1984 jackass! what do you want, factory 12 second 1/4s? mid-high 15s aint bad for the day. especialy when a "new" 1984 Z-28 only ran mid to low 15s, oh yea, and that was with 50 more ci!

  • @hotrodoldsman im gunna upload my fathers 1981 cutlass calais witha 350 4 bolt man bored out over .80 with a mild cam thing goes quick on the highway cus it still has the three speed with like 2:78 gears in the back but wait till you see it

  • @hotrodoldsman

and all of the emissions/mpg standards were new and the engines were NOT designed around them. I'm sure if Olds had their way it'd have a 455 cranking out a lot more power than the little 307 smogger engine.

For running a 'small smogger engine' 14.9 is dang good though!

  • that is a gorgeous olds....wow

  • Nice ride man, I've got and 84 H/O as well, with the exact same exhaust set up as you. I got lots of low end, but mine seems to run out of steam higher up the rev range. A yeah I still got the original 307 H.O. engine, and 373 rear which I'm thankful for!

  • mine is the same way still, although it used to be worse before the "old school" HEI swap, if I wasn't replacing my whole engine when my car comes out of storage, I was planning on replacing the worn out valvetrain and cam to shoot for the 14s. but I said screw it, shoot for 12s!

  • You ran out of steam up top because the cylinder heads suck on these, and the stock cams are nothing to write home about. Before I ditched my 307 for a 455,I put in a 403 cam, milled the heads, and did some pocket porting on the heads, seemed to help out a little, but that small bore just didnt want to breath.sounded good though.

  • Just put in a new distributor, edlebrock 650 carb, mine stalls coming off a burnout though, probably just have to work the carb. I'm getting headers and true duals with no cats on mine too, can't wait to take it out

  • the new computerless distributor will probably gain you the most power. you probably just need to adjust you accelerator pump, as its loading up under load (too much fuel)

  • I went down that road with an 87 - 442 in the 90's

first the cam ,then a chip,MSD&coil, shift kit, to make a long story short it was nickel and dimeing & ultimately unsatisfying. The 307 has no where near the bottom end torque to really get anything out of it + a host of other weaknesses..I did it up right eventually big blk. olds bored and stroked all the goodies, built trans, cust heads /exhaust,alum drive,

same- modified differ.and on and on and on..

only then did I get it respectable.

  • When you say, weaknesses, define that.I noticed they seem to have issues with breaking piston skirts, broken rocker bridges, which cause other problems.Otherwise, the small bore and stroke dont do much justice for power, nor the crappy heads these things come with.I went 69' 455 eventually.

  • Like you said ,small bore, mild heads, insufficient crank, every thing was designed for low HP/Torque,weak oiling system,I was also referring to needing a more bullet proof trans / higher stall, a healthier drive shaft & differential/gears that can handle real punishment / torque,my thinking was how do they get so much out of a 5.0 Mustang ? I wanted to keep the 307 and stay true but every facet of that engine needed attention to the point of way too much money, cheaper to bore & stroke a 455

  • i had a 79 cutlas with a 87 h.o 307. it was a beast. sold it and the kid i sold it too promplty wrecked it. glad to see you did not put a dam chevy 350 in it. I always said the 307 with roller was not a wimp motor with 180 horses. your car is great. Thanks for posting. oldsmobile forever!

  • Oldsmobile kicks ass man! I got a an 87 cutlass supreme brougham 307 ci with 97 thousand on it. 140 factory hp and it can light up those tires. After driving an olds with an olds engine, I don't think I can ever swap for a chevy

  • Any engine can be made alot stronger. just have to work on it. People who buy assempbled complete big blocks at least to me, and drop in and go just buy hp. building up the motor is a great experience. i miss having time for that kind of work.

  • Nice burnout dude, had a mint '87 442 that I regretably sold back in '06, all factory options, would burn out like a mother with those 3:73 Posi gears in that 8.5", also had the 307 in mine, those motors were underatted at 180hp, more like 220hp with that roller cam. Also had true duals on mine as well with no cats, talk about a world of difference, better breathing for that motor. Olds kicks ass.

  • They did not have roller cams until pre'87 models, when they also stated using small port heads and intake simular to the old 260,but with 4bbl.But yes ,I agree, they were a little underrated, just like most cars are.

  • what is the exhaust?

  • flowtech headers 2.5" true dual exhaust with flowmasters and no cats

  • I put the exact same exhaust set up on my 84 H/O as well. Made a huge difference in the bottom end, seemed to really let my 3.73 play after. I still find she runs out of juice higher up the rev range though. I loved the sound of the Flowmasters so much I put them on my Silverado too!

  • did u put a different axle because i cant get mine to burn like that

  • my car came from the factory with the 8.5 ten bolt (same one as the grand nationals) with 3.73 gears, but as these diffs are very desirable it was sold out from under the car before I bought it, when I got my car, it had a 7.5 ten bolt open end with like 2.10 gears out of a granny cutlass or something. All I did was rebuild the 7.5 with a new posi unit and a 3.73 gear set! Its not as durable as the stock setup, but it should drive and act the same!

  • what crank do got on that? and the stroke?

  • stock motor, never been out, 307 ci

headres, intake, exhaust, and thats about it!

  • Nice, is that the factory V8 5.0L engine?

  • hahaha thats friggin great! wait for my burnout video soooooon!
