well, yes, for Värttinä standards it is a straightforward song. But that's the role of a single, it should be more catchy. And it's not anything exceptional in their discography either, they have more simpler songs as this one. I believe the new album will contain both easier songs as this one, and more complicated typical Värttinä compositions.

The loss of members is surely hard to recover, but hey, after few years of silence Värttinä is back!

@ZeDollyDots As a great Värttinä admirer I must agree with you here - it is a nice song but much too simple - more fit to Johanna's and Susan's other project "Kuunkuiskaajat" than to Värttinä.

@finskadventures Well I am (serious) - but it's not that bad ;) "Utuneito" is great as are the samples of other new songs they have available in:

It is just this song that I find irritating. I guess mainly because of two things: the refrain is just dull (regular Finnish "Iskelmä" stuff) and it is repeated identically every time (usually they modify things) and the lyrics are clumsy, even forced - and there is no real story ...

@finskadventures ... I find the regular "Iskelmä" and the Folk based on Western Finland trad., generally too 1-dmensional. There can be certain beauty in melodies etc., but there is no real development, perhaps some generic changes in the BG, but nothing surprising. Kuunkuiskaajat have some extremely nice songs e.g. "Maailman Majoilla" - but for ex. I didn't like "Työlki Ellää" much - forced "happiness" and repetitive structure - only IMO of course ...

@finskadventures ... However I'm not ready to make my final call on this piece yet - can be that there are also some YT sound quality issues playing here. Usually the exceptional sondscapes of Värttinä songs open up in their full glory only in CD-quality through a decent stereo system.

I'm going to the new album release concert next Tuesday and I'm prepared to get my mind blown - and specifically - to be proved wrong regarding this specific piece :D

@EneriGiilaan I have been caught up in that low-fidelity trap myself many times. Whereby I think I know a Värttinä song by its youtube clip, only to find out later, when I listen to the original CD, I had in fact been missing out on some very profound nuances and subtleties.

Songs from albums like Ilmatar and Vihma come to mind.

@finskadventures Hi! I just uploaded couple of vids (Vietäviä and Käppee) from the concert in to my channel. I have one more (Seelinnikoi) which I have to edit a bit more before uploading.

If you have not done already then check also uploads by 'libertinecz' (search for: Värttinä Musiikkitalo) there are at least 5 better quality clips.

BTW I have the record now - and it is GOOD (even Tuuterin Tyttäret ;)

@finskadventures The atmosphere was just great. From what I could tell the main hall of the new Music House was practically sold out - the full capacity of the hall was not in use (seats behind the stage were not available) but the total audience must have been well over 1000. I have now Seelinnikoi uploaded - I hope you can tell the atmosphere from that ;)
