I keep researching Tom Delay, trying to find out when his trial for corruption charges starts. Last I heard the prosecutor handling the case is not running for another term and someone else who continue the case. Can anyone tell me when delay's trial will start? Anyone from Texas that might have more information about Delay's trial?
No damage, get real....The damage has been done with Bush, and it's about time we get back some real economic intellect. Regan and Clinton...That's what it's all about. BTW, Regan was a Democrat until he started to run for office, and he was a DEMOCRAT even while in office....FACT!
forgive my use of the non word 'sayed'. had i been righting (thats a joke sir) i would have made sure i used all proper english.
2. what does unimployement have to do with paying people more sir? i understand your point, but that just means that buisness has to seriously rethink how it does buisness if paying people more is going to hurt there buisness. More people with money=more money for your buisness.
Increasing the minimum pay by 100% could be catastrophic in today's economy. We are at 6.5% unemployment, in some places in FL it's 10%. Why do you think companies are laying off workers? Because revenues are down, look at the auto industry.
Doubling it would directly impact places like the service industry, which are already seeing drops in revenue.
BTW this is all academic, DeLay's contention that they're going to double the min. wage is most likely false.
eaxctly. But you tell me an auto factory worker who makes only minimum wage.
second, the reason people are laying people off (again) is because no one is buying. Why? because no one has any money. Why? because people arent getting payed nothing.
I always say, the best way to make money is to give people more money. I would prob do shopping if i had just maybe $2 extra in my pay i might be able to shop. As it is i dont, so i dont.
1. How many auto manufacturing workers do you know make only the minimum wage?
2. Doubling the minimum wage may affect some of those workers who are not at minimum wage levels, but are not making too much money.
3. The auto industry is a great example. You do know they're asking to be bailed out. GM is pretty much out of cash, and you don't see a problem with doubling the minimum wage?
2. no comment on that because its non-related. Unless you mean that they will be a lil ticked that minimum wage earners are making almost as much now?
3. Your correct, the auto industry is a great example. Why do you think GM is asking for bail out money? Because they make cars that people cant afford. Cant afford=no sales. No sales=no money. No money=lay offs.
More money to spend=more sales=more money=more jobs to give=more people buying stuff.
The problem is not raising the minimum wage, the problem is saying it's OK to double it which nobody in their sane mind is going to suggest because it makes no sense.
Again, yes people have more money means they can spend more, but the way you are presenting it is fairly naive and assumes that money will magically grow from trees. Businesses can't afford a 2x increase in wages right now.
Dems are going to go on a spending spree like you can not imagine. It'd be differen if it was going to be spent on productive measures, but more entitlements? Its obvious their goal is to make us all stewards of the state, which clearly means we would be voting Democrat in the future too.
Delay's comment about "congress doing short term damage to the economy" is one of the first shots in the process by which the Republicans attempt to sabotage the Democrat's work in repairing the global economy. Country over partisanship? Not from these Republicans, sadly.
Uhmm...How can you destroy an economy that's been fucked for years? What an idiot douche, all the dems wanna do is give the little guy their fair share. Repugs only care about wealthy people.
Higher pay for workers means screwing up the economy? --> For the economy of the rich, which means not working but getting to be Kings and Queens anyway. Since we're not a Aristocracy or a Plutocracy, fuck 'em. They can work for their fair share.
I have always hated Tom Delay. He is the epitome of a hateful, evil thug. He got what he deserved. The former hammer has gone back to the pest control business. Or is he in jail?
Seeing these comments were made a year ago it's interesting to look back and see what happened. Unemployment went from 7.6% to 10%.
Delay was right on the mark when it he said the Democrats would ruin the economy.

It's not going to start because there were never any charges filed. It was a politically motivated witchhunt that never went anywhere.

johnkerry7;
1) The economy can't afford doubling the minimum wage, check the unemployment numbers.
1a) DeLay is exaggerating, no way Democrats would go that far at this point.
2) The past tense of "say" is "said", not "sayed".

Ignore (2) ... I meant, you probably wanted to say "paid" instead of "payed".

Tom Delay is just scared that the income gap could, over time shrink. Republicans LOVE a very few to have all the 99% of the wealth.

LOL, that's funny at the end when Matthews encapsulates the Delay "philosophy" in a few tart words.

Time for Delay to crawl back behind the woodwork.

Apparently reasonable minimum wage = destruction of economy.
Because its not trickle down Reganomics.
worzgan 3 years ago
actually.. yes jacking up Min Wage = destructiopn of jobs. The Business Model of those companies weren't based on labor costs being x 2.
Simple Economics. What you want is trickle up poverty ... that is what socialism does
