I made the recipe tonight for my family. They were at first unsure as to how it would taste (I have never made it before). I told them that based on how the dish smelled, it would taste delicious. I was right. Loved the recipe,Runny! P.S. I added green onions on top as a garnish. :D
@anoymos hey i live in singapore too and a few days ago i bought sake in fairprice.. i dont think every fairprice has it though.. but in clarke quay there is a mall called liang court. it's a japanese mall and it has a japanese supermarket. maybe you can find mentsuyu and sake and other japanese ingredients there..
what can i substitute if i dont have mentsuyu? i hope someone can answer my questions since not all japanese ingredients are available in the groceries here ion the philippines...
@joimarise im pinay from japan. there are some japanese groceries in makati (hachin) and yamazaki (near makati cinema square), operated and owned by japanese gentlemen. my husband used to buy from there. im not sure if there are mentsuyu, but my husband said there were hondashi, sake etc.
I get it! Oyakodon stands for parent, child and bowl. The whole chicken is parent, the egg is child and the whole thing is in a bowl! I feel accomplished. :D
The reason why I call this is kinda cheat way is because I use mentsuyu. That means you don't have to make dashi soup. Mentsuyu has already seasoned by dashi and soy sauce as you know :)
@runnyrunny999 Hello ! I love your videos. May I ask if mentsuyu is similar to memmi sauce soup base or is it completely different? I can't find the info on the net. Keep up the great video recipes! Thanks
For future videos, can you use all metric or all imperial measuring systems? I was going to make my own Mentsuyu sauce but I had to convert everything. It's easier to use 1 system. Thanks!
i bought mentsuyu today. but it says its "seasoning soysauce for straight noodles. Tsuyu no moto." is that the same thing runny uses? because he says his is soba noodle soup base whereas mine does not.. any help would be appreciated
Oh god, I just realized why it's probably called "parent, child, bowl"...Well, the "bowl" bit is obvious, but the parent part is the chicken and the child part is the egg. x_x I SO hope I'm wrong...because that's kind morbid.
hey runny runny, I also live in Canada and have recently taken an interest for Japanese cooking. Do you have any vegetarian or vegan or shojin ryori ideas? I do not wish to eat so much meat/eggs~ Thank you so much if you could make anything liek it!
How come all Japanese stocks (I'm pretty sure this is the word you mean to use when you say soup) require sweetening with sugar? Basically this is an omelette Japanese style which is cool, there are a lot of foods in the world that are similar.

But for now, I'm going to look through your tofu recipes and see which one I want to try. I got some tofu (I love it!) so that I could try one of your recipes. :) I'm curious about the icecream and the grattin!
