Carol of the Bells is an English rendering of Щедрик (Schedryk) written by Mykola Leontovych in 1916. It was first performed with the choir of the Kyiv University which brought him great success from the public in Kyiv. Mykola Leontovych (born December 13, 1877; died January 23, 1921) was a Ukrainian composer, choral conductor, and teacher of international renown.
Well it is interesting, because It is Christianity, both the words in the Carol and the ancient paintings from the old Danish church, that are shown in the video.
@yiemona American history has created a commercial holiday and have complete disregard and disrespect for the true beginnings of this paegan 'holiday'. Those pictures are from Danish culture. Danish culture has deep roots. I think they would have a deeper understanding of this dates' historical value because of said culture. They obviously paint a pretty detailed portrait of it here!
@dlkirtley06 oh dont go blaming america for everything that goes wrong. its been happening way before all over. if you want to blame someone for messing up "pagan" holidays talk to the catholic church lol they changed many of them. modern times just made it worse by everyone. it just sucks how greed all over the world messes up traditions and true spirt of things. i hate most holidays, esp since they changed so much to not offend anyone that doesnt practice it lol..
@DragonFox84 You're right, it's not just America, and its not just one religion. I think if people are looking for a reason to spread goodwill society is screwed already. haha!
A woman's naked breasts?? A man boiling something in a cauldron?? Soldiers stabbing little human figures in the chest and stomach?? What kind of wacky left-wing revisionist selected imagery like this for "Carol Of The Bells?"
powerful!!! i like this one. this one has deeper, lower sounding voices on it - gives it more life. you got the sweet-sounding high-note-hitting girls and the louder, deeper sounding guys as well. merry x-mas!
Jesus Christ returning May 21, 2011 4 Judgment. Ready? Or troubled like Herod and all the people of Jerusalem when the Magi came to Jerusalem seeking Christ?
@XXXGreenSamurai Lies. Its still Christmas without this song. I love Jesus's alleged birthday because my family members feel compelled to buy me gifts. Ironic that his birthday has basically turned into exactly the thing he preached against.
I LOVE this song! This is a really good version too! We are singing it in my choir, and it's by far my favorite song! I normally don't like acapella that much for some reason, but this one is really good.
@Ghlan I agree completely. I think it has a certain quality to it that seems a bit hedonistic in a way, but at the same time it is so beautiful and festive.
Chruch music and church art! That's the link. Wonder how the acoustics would be in that small-looking place. Would the paintings make the carol even more ominous?
it always makes me sad when this song is slowed down from the original tempo, so this one put a smile on my face. Have to say, though i loved singing the soprano part, my fav was always the last "dong" sung by the men :)
@teknought HAHAHA! May as well be since they own a greater portions of the world's drinking supply AND considering Christ wasn't born during the 'christmas' season! As much as any 'christian' would like to hold onto the hope that there is a REASON for this one day of the year is assinine. Its just another day, another dollar for the corporate white collars. 97% are still overworked and oppressed. 3% are still and will always be pigs (thanks for the awesome classification Pink Floyd).
this is how the poriginal song is sung and yeah its very good the other versians in choirs sometimes go slower than this speed and its amazing and very beautiful peice of great music
The song is beautiful, and yet the graphics scared me greatly, very intense..
