They are both the greatest at what they do. IMHO you cannot compare golf to basketball. Basketball, Football, Hockey, Baseball, Soccer... real sports. These are sports we play as kids. These are the dominant sports we played growing up. It is easier to be better at golf because less people play the sport mainly because it is expensive. You have better competition in sports such as basketball and soccer. If as many people played golf as basketball, Woods would have more trouble being the best.

Most sports require alot of god given natural ability, no matter how much money somebody has, if they don't have the natural ability and size to play a physical sport then they won't be good enough to play at high competitive levels. Now if you have alot of money and alot of free time, then you can excel at golf. That's why I suck lol, just not enough time for me to go out and practice and not enough money for professional lessons.
Yeah, please tell that to my dad. Ive had to work for my clubs, and I have had to practice so much just to be good and my ok clubs are nowhere near as forgiving or gets better spin as expensive clubs would. My dad says this and hes the one with the 1000$ golf set.
The equipment is only small portion of the game. You can't buy power, or strength, or the eye to see where to go, and what to do. Although I do agree that equipment does matter.
Yeah I know, equipment can only go so far. But money can buy good pro lessons to improve you're game. People can gain strenght on their own I think but they have to learn how to use that strength, and I think lessons can do that. But I do agree the equipment is a small portion.
PLUS in basketball MJ had to lead his time for only 1 goal... 1 championship per year. Woods doesn't have to lead a team and if he misses winning a major, he has the chance to win multiple championships a year.

Not all golfers are athletes, but Tiger Woods most certainly is. Tiger's athelticism is the reason why he is so great at golf. He played other sports as a child an dominated those as well. He put so much effort and time into golf and devoted his whole entire life to it. Most professional golfers now especially the young guys are very athletic they are in as good of shape as other athletes because the competition to become a professional is so high. Not to mention Tiger can bench over 350 pounds

@ColdDish1 I think when you can say "Hi, my names Tiger Woods" you dont really need anybody to teach you how to score. But just goes to show how dumb and money grubbing the ho's really are. The best golfer in the world is about as athletic as the best pool player or bowler or poker player. MJ > Tiger.

Woods is a pretty decent looking guy with a shit ton of money...thats what the girls see...i doubt they care if he golfed or played in the NBA

Exactly. with Jordan, there were no surprises. Jordan didnt try to hide anything or in his playing days like Tiger hid his imperfections/mistresses. And MJ still got all the endorsements, commercial, fame like Tiger. I definitely think if MJ in his playing days did the same thing as Tiger did (MJ likely did anyway-lol) and his affairs erupted out in the public eye, the uproar over MJ doing it wouldnt be nearly as great as the uproar this year over Tiger doing it.

Yes golf is one of the most difficult activities/sports along with bowling, table tennis, poker, chess, etc...
I'm not putting him down. I'm not ignorant, I just have an open mind. It's ignorant not to understand that a larger percentage of the worlds population play sports like basketball and soccer so therefore you equally talented pro athletes playing against each other because you have a larger talent pool.

They are both the greatest at what they do. IMHO you cannot compare golf to basketball. Basketball, Football, Hockey, Baseball, Soccer... real sports. These are sports we play as kids. These are the dominant sports we played growing up. It is easier to be better at golf because less people play the sport mainly because it is expensive. You have better competition in sports such as basketball and soccer. If as many people played golf as basketball, Woods would have more trouble being the best.

If I invest money and play a year of competitive golf, I no doubt would be better than 95% of the world at it. You can't say that about basketball.

Most sports require alot of god given natural ability, no matter how much money somebody has, if they don't have the natural ability and size to play a physical sport then they won't be good enough to play at high competitive levels. Now if you have alot of money and alot of free time, then you can excel at golf. That's why I suck lol, just not enough time for me to go out and practice and not enough money for professional lessons.

Yeah, please tell that to my dad. Ive had to work for my clubs, and I have had to practice so much just to be good and my ok clubs are nowhere near as forgiving or gets better spin as expensive clubs would. My dad says this and hes the one with the 1000$ golf set.

The equipment is only small portion of the game. You can't buy power, or strength, or the eye to see where to go, and what to do. Although I do agree that equipment does matter.

Yeah I know, equipment can only go so far. But money can buy good pro lessons to improve you're game. People can gain strenght on their own I think but they have to learn how to use that strength, and I think lessons can do that. But I do agree the equipment is a small portion.

PLUS in basketball MJ had to lead his time for only 1 goal... 1 championship per year. Woods doesn't have to lead a team and if he misses winning a major, he has the chance to win multiple championships a year.

Just imagine this for a TV Sporting Event, Jordan vs Woods, best 2 out of 3, First, 18 holes of Golf, then a One on One basketball Game. And depending on the outcomes of the two a totally random activity that requires a one on one match up. Just imagine the ratings that this would produce!!

Jordan is one of the best athletes, but TIger is a golf prodigy with a killer sense for this game.
Jordan would not lose much, if just because he doesn't practice as much in golf as Tiger.
But in terms of athleticism (power, balance, coordination, intelligence, and flexibility), Jordan could be above Tiger.
so it's a different game, yes, but it's still just another sport.

Flexibility is what allows you to turn your shoulder and create the torque that generates the clubhead speed which allows Tiger to bomb drives off the tee. Intelligence is knowing when to use which club, execute a particular shot and make judgement calls to keep scores low. You are probably like the guys I see who come to the range with a driver with your friends to see who can outbomb the other by muscling it and your distance gets shorter.

that is very true people make the mistake of tensing up and swinging harder. all you have to do to hit longer shots is to be relaxed and get good extension thru the ball. tensing up makes your swing more compact and you have to compensate by swinging harder.

Not all golfers are athletes, but Tiger Woods most certainly is. Tiger's athelticism is the reason why he is so great at golf. He played other sports as a child an dominated those as well. He put so much effort and time into golf and devoted his whole entire life to it. Most professional golfers now especially the young guys are very athletic they are in as good of shape as other athletes because the competition to become a professional is so high. Not to mention Tiger can bench over 350 pounds
