  • On my phone, Labs is under Settings, and the download option is called "Pre-cache map area".

  • what phone is this? (i bought a cheap android recently and it was nowhere as fast as this)

  • How could this be acessable on a Android tablet version?

  • Does this also work/apply to Google navigation?

  • what phone are you using?

  • whats 10km considering you are considering travelling to the uk - just to get to the highway its more then 10km. As usual google is handing out something for free that is useless.

  • dus not work that way

  • I can't find out the"download map area"button in my google maps 6.0.3

  • @hatechinagov Me neither...

  • I still use a map and GPS.

I print off the map of my Hotel location. And using my GPS and off line map I navigate towards that location.

In Barcelona (foreign city) my coach dropped me off at a different station. If I had navigated by map alone then I would have been lost. Instead I found my location, realised the error and saved many hours and probably money getting a taxi.

  • You saved me alot of money and time!

  • I need more data than 10 miles. Can one download data along a route?

  • @slavixtube I just tried out precaching and you can save different blocks, so I think if you just precached one area then another slightly farther ahead, that should work.

  • Audjudufuf refer id shh j g

  • Voice crack at 1:18

  • if you still use gps on you phone to show where you are in the downloaded area, will it use data? and how much space did that area that you downloaded take up?

  • @MrLemon9876 I might be stupid but I also wonder this. I think using GPS should not use any data :)

  • Nokia OVI Maps download the precise Navtec navigation map for the whole country at 1 go! Not just 10mile radius shit! Nokia rocks! All nokia users thumbs up! Only android fkrs will thumbs down ;)

  • can u dowload something like that but for your computer. like adding the whole world of google into your computer? homany gigs would that be? where can i get that ? like doing garmin into ur laptop

  • Thanks for the Tips, very usefull

  • i don't have the "Download Map Data" thing in my SGS2's Google Map's Labs

  • @Rayz093 Search for 'Google Maps' in the market and update to the latest version.

  • @xMotor12345x I've found it's not compatible with my SGS2, reason (not available for my country)

  • Excellent. Keep going in This direction Google.

  • can you search places offline?

  • It is totally useless, You CAN NOT NAVIGATE with a downloaded map. WHAT IS THE POINT????? NOT USEFUL FOR TRAVELING!!!!

  • @jdgomezm It's a labs (= beta) feature, they're just trying things out. By the time it gets released out of labs it'll probably work with navigation.

  • @jdgomezm You can?

  • @MrFishhunter Can You?

  • @jdgomezm Yes. I can.

  • @MrFishhunter Is it a new feature??? please let me know the details. Actually the offline Map is better than nothing for traveling, but it must be really good to be able to navigate!

  • @jdgomezm You can see where u are and you can see the map, have you never used a map before? Not sure if you are talking about the thing about "walk 300 meters and then turn to right" (i am not sure if that works) but I assume you are not 5 years old.

  • @MrFishhunter I guess In your opinion people who use navigation GPS are five years old, I would prefer to find easily a place and follow indications, I don't find convenient to use a handy-size map if it does not work as a navigator. That has been always my point, of course again is better than nothing but still.....

  • @jdgomezm Ehh no. The problem with using a map when you travel is that 99% of the pages does not help you. This shows you the CURRENT map you are in AND your location. It is nowhere near the same thing.

  • @MrFishhunter Cool if it works for you, I does not for me, I prefer a Hotel map easy to fold than a tiny electronic, for me it is not enough and sure for a lot of users.

  • Awesome!

  • thank you !!

  • After all this time. No more bulsshit with caching issues anns stuff. Gogole should of dne this long back

  • Where does it download this data (does it support app2sd?) and how big is the download of, say about 50km2 (~30mi)?

  • square radius? lol

  • My subwoofer likes that intro.

  • hey i have android phone how can i navigate with google maps without internet? i have downloaded map cache like that but i still cant navigate :(

  • A step in the right direction....

  • it's not there anymore; according to the title, that the features here may change break or disappear at any time

  • Hmm... I knew this was coming, but so soon. From the comment below he says he can't use without Data still. I'm going to give it a try.

  • Why not just let us download countries... google uses maps from teleatlas so it's possible.

  • It doesn't let me navigate without a data connection...

  • @cow960 me too, if u will find any solutions tell me pls :)

  • Thanks for the info. Will prove quite useful when roaming around the NYC subway system.

  • It still uses data for A-GPS. It's just not using as much data to download maps.

  • Will it work with satellite view?

  • @GabrielKnightz yes but still cant navigate

  • Keep in mind though, this is only an enhanced caching feature, not true offline mode. This update still doesn't allow users to do search for a new business or address, and Google Maps still does not calculate directions without a data connection at the time of search. It's a great step forward though, because now you can manually control and select which area you need to store.

  • thx for ur reviews and such =D
