this is frickin' invaluable. I'm gonna be studying this video ALL the time! I about lost my mind at the beginning of 1:01 maaaan such a succession into the beat! YES!
hi all i'm a romanian drum player and i what to invite you all to view some of our's styles to play darbuka...u can type "tarabana" in the search space
The top number in a time signature indicates the number of beats per measure. The second number indicates what note value gets a whole beat. For example 10/8 means there are 10 beats per measure and every 1/8 note is one beat. But this doesn't mean you only play 1/8 notes. You could play two 1/16 notes or 4 1/32 notes instead of a single 1/8 note. Just as long as it all adds up to 10/8 by the end of the measure.
@AyzieBone ....is like, the fist number tells you how many "hits" he's gonna give, and the second number tells you how much it's gonna take. for example 12/8 is like....he will give 12 "hits" in 8 seconds.......so, the higher is ther fists number, the faster is the beat..... i dont know if you get me........
my two egyptian teacher didn't teach me the WAHDA KIBIRA as a 4/4 rithm. they call yours only "wahda" 4/4. the WAHDA KIBIRA is a rithm of 8/4 (dum rakatakatak raka tatakka DUM DUM TAK)
Amazing tabla player! I played myself a bit earlier, but it's all forgotten now... Thank you :-)

Can somebody please explain to me what does the 8/10 or 4/8 means? Like what's the meaning of those numbers...?
AyzieBone 3 years ago
They are the time signature - think of it as - the first no. equals the amount of beats to one measure of the rhythm.
Chaswhitaker 3 years ago
Oh so like 8 is the amount of beats, but what is the second number?? Seconds?
AyzieBone 3 years ago
Ah - that is where it gets a bit complicated - i will offer that to someone else to try and explain
Chaswhitaker 3 years ago
Ok thanks for your help anyways!

I understand better "B'hari" as a 8 beat rhythm (3-2-3).
yannis13 4 years ago
B'HARI must also be Nawari which is one of the rhythms the Lebanese use for Debke dance.
iggytse 4 years ago
Pretty cool. Looks like some Hammouda style technique there. I wonder if Mansour studied with him?
