It shows in Brian May's solo work, just how much he influenced the "Queen sound". Roger Taylor's solo work is so much NOT like Queen, that I sometimes have to remind myself it is from Queen's Roger Taylor. Both of them are excellent though, both very talented and they show us just how magical Queen was/is. Freddie was the penultimate showman, there will never be any one like him again, but the rest of Queen shouldn't be discounted either.

It amazes me that all of Queen had at least one solo album And they each composed at least one number one hit. Queen was a band comprised of the greatest minds in music. Even more, Brian May has a Phd in Astrophysics. Quite a genius, and this song, hell - all of this solo album, is just so great. sadly I can't seem to find his other one.

Working for a radio station at this time, I met him backstage during this tour in Montreal. Very soft spoken gentile guy and all the pop and water you could drink. No rock attitude at all. The media was able to ask some questions so instead of the usual "what inspired you to write this album" question, I asked him if he had a backyard BBQ, who would be there? "My wife and kids, no one else really." He didn't even have to think about it so I knew he was genuine.

The Red Special (Bri's guitar" is made from an old mahogany fireplace (which was found at a derilict house). Mother of pearl buttons. A sewinf needle. Some motorcycle engine parts. A piece of Oak that was v difficult to cut. Burns "tri-sonic" pickups (personally wound by Bri). And best of all, he uses an old sixpence or an American "dime" as a plectrum. And what a wonderful sound it all makes in the hands of it's maker
