In the past, the US would conduct convenient "treaties" to bring Mexicans to come work only for a certain amount of time. When the war ended, they terminated those "friendly" treaties. If all illegal Mexicans to were to go back to Mex, the US economy would suffer incredibly!

The real villain is the Mexican government, which cannot help it's own impoverished population and thus sends it's problems north for the U.S. to deal with, all while pocketing a good deal of the U.S. currency sent home by illegal workers. The illegals are just pathetic parasites willing to be exploited as near slave labor in the U.S. because it's slightly better than being exploited in Mexico. They're not the only ones either; we get plenty from Korea, China, Africa, and the Caribbean, too.
