The video on Youtube of Richter playing this is faster, I'm sure Lisitsa could play it just as fast if she wished to. That video is simply Richter showing off, it's unlikely he always played it that fast as the piece inevitably loses some of its dynamics. This is an ideal speed, still furiously fast but with just enough breathing space for the piece to sing.

I studied this piece last year and it took me more than six months to learn it. This interpretation is one of the finest. The phrases are arched, the clarity is flawless, the impressions are perfect, and I have never seen anyone play it this fast with this much clarity. I was able to hear every note. Thank you Valentina for posting this. This is incredible!

I love the reactions. Keep in mind, Etudes are meant to play quickly. Further, when 'professionals' play in recital, typically, they do the entire "book" OP 10 - 1/12 so you have to learn quickly.

To my recollection, Chopin was heavily influenced by Bach. It makes sense. This piece sounds like an inspired version of the Bach English suite no. 6 'gigue'. I wonder how many hours a day Ms. Lisitsa practices her scales.
