  • love the smell of fairbanks in the mornin

  • 1:00 is the sound of me hittin that pussy. bam bam bam bam

  • Love these old F-Ms! When muffled well, they ran almost as quietly as the big steamers did. Unmuffled like this, -always- have that very distinctive bark to the exhaust. Can't mistake 'em for anything else.

  • i remeber there used to be one of these hooked to a baker fan at the harford fair, it used to be great to stand next to on hot days

  • sweet

  • I love seeing old machines actually running and not just rusting away.

  • My 4 yr old just said its making music! lol i think he my be a future mechanic like daddy

  • its hard to believe that size engine is rated at only 50hp but i bet th TQ rateing is realy up there

  • @grizzleybearz282004 if those 50 HP are at 257 RPM (posted said thats the rated RPM, but I dont know rated max or rated power) thats about 1075 ft lbs

  • Ah, the single cylinder diesel two-stroke! Beautiful! My grandfather had one in his oold boat I remember! Not this old, but it was an old, sweet sounding "thumper":)

  • The hole are there so the engine can be turned with a bar by hand to get it to the starting position. There is a mark on the flywheel.

  • Wonderful! Just a shame that the best videos are always in 240p (low resolution).

  • Sweet Vid !! Are the holes in the face of the flywheel for balancing or for turning the engine by hand, or what ? Thanks for posting this engine video!

  • @Oviner123 They are for turning the engine by hand via a length of pipe.

  • @Nighthawke70 Thanks! That engine would be a brute to start by hand.

  • @Oviner123 It is. They use the holes for turning the engine over to clear and prime it. They use an air-powered motor to do the actual work of starting it..

  • once that thing gets up to speed, it burns clean. makes you wonder why we have the prius. they had clean burning technology in the 20's

  • wow nise thanks sawmills ok

  • Comment removed

  • ok what its do ???

  • @sertox12345 this guy is 50mi away form me we r putting one older then him togetehr too so...

  • @sertox12345 they were used to run things like sawmills

  • Its running about 200 RPM its rated for 257.. Takes a bit to get that 11,000 lb flywheel moving.. Not sure what the Torque Rating would be but it would be a lot.. To shut it down if it runs away you would have to take the plate over the intake and flip it over to cut the air..we leave it unbolted but have never had it give us a hint that it wants to run away..

  • What's the max rpm? Really nice engine. It seems to run pretty good.

  • 50hp and probebly 10,000 pounds per square inch worth of tourque :)

  • Great Engine ,Great Sound Great from Germany Berlin

  • Took a bit to wind up.

  • It runs awesome!!!

  • Nice engine. That compressor looks like the one that was in the Boiler house at Tokheim corp. in Fort Wayne Indiana it had a huge GE electric motor powering it.

  • Gorgeous, just gorgeous! Thank you.

  • how many rpms?

  • how the hell do u stop it if it revs out of control???

  • @shinyfuzzy Jam a railroad rail in the flywheel, lol

  • @Flyboy207 ha yeah like a dinky ass piece of metal would stop a 3 ton flywheel running at 2000 rpm

  • @JohnDeere30201 it was a joke

  • @Flyboy207 im well aware of this lol

  • @shinyfuzzy Call everybody in the next 4 states and tell them "LOOK OUT!"

  • I love it, real sound, how many torque can this engine delevery? happy new 2011 from sweden :-))

  • ehh- sweet but wheres the "cold" theres not even any snow & looks warm out to me?

  • @jd1950r it means it hasnt been started for awhile and it makes it slightly harder to start

  • Owning one of these engines takes some real dedication. And if you want one of your own you have to be prepared- the engine and flywheel ship separately, and you must be prepared to spend several thousand dollars to set it up properly.

  • Orgasmic sound!!!! That's a nice piece of art!!!

  • 1924 and still running. nice.

don't get your hand into the flywheel :D

  • Man, I could listen to that thunderous heartbeat for days. Great vid!

  • gotta love that belching sound!

  • The engine was built in 1924.. The noise at the beginning of the Video is the Airstart.. The Compressor makes little or no noise.. The Flywheel is 11,000 lbs so I am sure its got pleny of torque..

  • @sheldonjr7hp My 1994 Geo Metro has a 55 HP gas engine and weighs a ton and this diesel is big as a house and it's flywheel ALONE has the mass of FIVE of my cars and yet it only has 50 HP????? Yes, it looks like it has lots more torque than my Metro. I would think a giant diesel would have 700-1000-3000 HP.

  • @kdc43 ...more torque? this thing has enough torque to twist your Metro in half without any effort. Think of it this way, this single cylinder engine has enough grunt to turn a generator that can power an entire farm etc. No small 50 hp car engine could ever do anything close. Thees big old engines may only generate 50hp, but they will maintain that hp under immense load.

  • Very nice!

I'm guessing the deep intake noise is the air comp?

  • @Aussie50 The intake noise is the air intake check valve on the side of the block. It is a plate type valve and the plate CLAPS against the seat making this noise that is so familiar with Fairbanks 2 cycle engines.

  • Two stroke diesel ftw

  • I love simple old technique like this. :-)

Do you know how much torque it has?

  • What year? I'm guessing 1910's.

  • amazing machinery my friend

  • i wish i had this engine lol power my hole block of houses

  • Yes this is a 2 stroke Diesel. Origianlly ran in a cotton mill

  • this is a two stroke one cylinder diesel, right?

  • That short straight pipe really has a nice thump!
