  • Elton is brilliant and the fact that Elton made a song for him proves how amazing Howard is.

  • This is from September 15th 1986.

  • I found myself humming this tune today completely randomly after not hearing it in... a decade maybe.. I heard it live on KROK (WXRK), Howards show in NY back in the day.

Awesome how you can find pretty much anything on youtube in a few minutes.

I read a few comments that suggest this isnt Elton, it is 100%.

Great song, Great singer, and always great Howard.

  • Shame there isn't video

  • when was elton on the show?

  • This was from Howards rare Saturday radio show.

  • just_Amazing!

  • Yeah I remember this shit from the mid 80's when Howard was only on locally, and maybe Philly and DC at that point. They wrote the lyrics for him to perform as a parody to the tune of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me", and Elton was just like "C'mon, can't I just compose an original melody?" And the gang is like "yeah great!", so Elton just starts singing and playing this spontaneosly! And its got all the earmarks of the best Elton stuff. Look out Bernie Taupin here come Frigtening Fred Norris!

  • At the conclusion of the performance, he was whisked away directly to St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney for surgery.

SO... this must have been recorded prior to November/December 1986.

  • He recovered enough to perform a concert in Brisbane a little while later and a final "Thankyou Australia" concert in January 1987 (which was recorded and released in - unfortunately - heavily edited form on video). A recording of most of the second half of the concert was released as an album. According the the stagehands, he was coughing up green gunge between songs backstage but was determined to complete the concert.

  • Elton was in Perth at the end of 1986 when he lost his voice (I met him back stage that night) and couldn't sing. This was at the end of an 18-month world tour to promote "Leather Jackets". The Australian tour was called "Tour de Force" and featured the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on tour with him. A behind the scenes documentary made at the time is VERY telling.

  • This song was from Howards short lived syndicated radio show on Saturdays. Fred wrote this as a parody for one of elton's songs and Elton said why paraody i'll put music to it. He just made it up on the spot.

  • i love this song....wasn't it done at one of HOWARD's birthday parties?

  • This is an amazing song to make up on the fly. The lyrics are typical howard but it makes it great because it doesn't rhyme

  • I was a kid & I remember taping this & singing it at the top of my lungs.

Fabulous song. Howard Stern has been my idol (one of my idols) since I was 10! Met him several times; THE NICEST MAN!

  • I never even knew this existed! Thanks for posting it!!!

Btw, silly old man, it's definitely Elton, bad nasty throat at the end and all. If you don't think so, pull out the album Live In Australia and listen to the song Tonight. Throat surgery was Jan. 5 1987 so this performance was obviously before that. Besides, the chord progressions and stuff... pure Elton. LOL

Done in Cooker Song style. Who else can compose on the fly like that?? Too bad Stern was the one that wrote the lyrics.

  • THIS IS ELTON, KIDS!!! I rememeber hearing this in the early 90s on Howard!!! This was when Howard was at his prime!! Dice, Belz, Pat Cooper, Gilbert, Judy tenuta and SAM KINISON... O&A wish they had that magic....

  • Thanx brother...I am so thrilled that I found that song.....

  • I have been looking for this song forever...Thanx Bro!!!!!

  • Love your name... "Mike Stack..." sounds sounds like you should have your own TV show.. "Mike Stack - Private Detective"

  • I'd be more inclined to agree with the Elton expert quote. Not so much the cock expert quote although I certainly know one when I'm speaking to one.

I don't think a record collection containing the following is too bad.

    The Beatles

    The Rolling Stones

    David Bowie

    Billy Joel

    Eric Clapton

    Oasis

    Rod Stewart

    The Who

  • It is Elton John....Who's the dumb shit?

  • It is gramps

  • I think you'll find that "Penises" are probably something Elton John as an interest in.

And for your information you ignorant prick Elton John sang a song on his "Single Man" album called Big Dipper. Its about someone's cock!!

  • Jeez, you're quite the Elton/cock expert aren't you??? Unfortunately for you such expertise has no bearing on the fact that this simply isn't elton john. But you don't let that stop you from singing along with all your favorite penis ditties. Remind me never to ask to borrow your CD collection.

This is probably Fred Norris singing.

  • This actually is Elton John. Howard gave him the lyrics before the show...and Elton virtually made up the song as he read the lyrics. This was an audio recording of the old channel 9 show from New York. This was Eltons last performance before throat surgery. Also if I remember correctly,...Elton was wasted that night also.

  • I've heard that Howard had wanted Elton to sing this to the melody of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me". I have no idea if it's actually true, but if you put them together they do fit LOL!

  • If this is not Elton John, it certainly sounds like him. I have been an Elton John fan all of my life, and this certainly sounds like Elton. But he's obviously goofing off. Towards the end when he starts crying, it really doesn't sound much like him but that could be where he's being goofy and acting like he's crying. I've heard about this, and from what i've heard it is indeed Elton John. Not so sure when it was recorded or aired, but anyay...just my opinion.

  • dude... its Elton.

  • Ok detectivesyme...i looked it up...and it IS Elton. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to. Peace

  • The koolaid is pretty good, lol. take care :)

  • @detectivesyme it is elton

  • I remember this episode of Howard Stern radio show from NY very well. Howard gave the lyrics to Elton, Elton looked at the lyrics, and within a couple minutes started singing this song. Howard wanted Elton to sing the lyrics to another tune at first but Elton's music sounded much better. Amazing!!! BTW-This is how Bernie and Elton collaborate... Bernie sends the lyrics to Elton, Elton adds the music.

  • In what year was this show on air? Elton sounds fantastic.

  • Howard had a syndicated radio show in 1986 that would air on Saturdays....
