It is easier and of course more so POLITICALY correct for OHL commissioner David Branch to suspend Michael Liambas and make him out to be the villain. When he should have been asking the question: WHAT is a young man of the age of sixteen doing on the ice with men to let this happen in the first place?
Giving this the thumbs up, it's an example of the OHL punishing the result of an incident and not the action. To call it an intent to injure, you must also look at all of the near misses of the past.
OHL should be ashamed at their "twofacedness" in this. I don't know the rules now, but when I played, anyone under 18 is mandated to wear a full face shield with a secured chin strap. It would have negated most, if not all of the major injuries in this situation.
To further my point, thanks character limits. Had this not resulted in injury to Fanelli this would be a highlight reel hit and you would all be watching it on Sportscenter's top 10. Instead a poor kid got hurt, prayers to him and his family.

my mom is the head office manager of the kitchener rangers and what happened was the guy hit him and be hit his head of the hinges from the zamboni door and cut through his scull and his brain tissues were coming out and the guy who hit him was 20 and bens only 16 and the 20 year old deserves to be out for the season... he needs to respect the younger players

The penalty for the hit does not make any sense. It is terrible that some one got hurt but what would of been the penalty have been if his helmet had stayed on and he did not get hurt? The OHL needs to reverse this ruling. Maybe they need to look at instating a ruling regarding helmets. They should not be able to come off that easily in hits or fights!!

Umm... as far as any of us know from THIS video clip right here... it's not a charge... an we don't know if the elbow made contact... cause right after the hit... his forearm is full against the boards... and he turns his body the last second to line up his shoulder....So I'd say it WAS a clean hit....the intentions mighta been different... look the simple fact here is hockey is a fast paced game and rarely does a player intentionally go for a hit to the head. just as players rarely high stick on purpose. it just happens and will continue to happen as long as hockey is full contact (which is should be). the players know this risk when they step on the ice and if you keep your head up and you can avoid it 99% of the time.

If you say this is nothing your wrong, the kid is in the hospital in a critical condition with a fractured skull and other facial injury. They both are to blame(my view dirty hit, but the other guys helmet fell right off so...), but its the sport

Umm... as far as any of us know from THIS video clip right here... it's not a charge... an we don't know if the elbow made contact... cause right after the hit... his forearm is full against the boards... and he turns his body the last second to line up his shoulder....So I'd say it WAS a clean hit....the intentions mighta been different... But it's just unfortunate that he was hurt badly... Hope he gets better tho...

look the simple fact here is hockey is a fast paced game and rarely does a player intentionally go for a hit to the head. just as players rarely high stick on purpose. it just happens and will continue to happen as long as hockey is full contact (which is should be). the players know this risk when they step on the ice and if you keep your head up and you can avoid it 99% of the time.

Sure it is. I'm certainly not here to contest that. Many team sports include bodily contact, and even jarring impact. Either strategic or accidental.

You can clearly see that the hit was with his elbow meaning a dirty hit, sure if he would of put his shoulder into him it probably would of been a nice hit but he didn't. I dont know how anyone could call that a clean hit. Open your eyes.

It wasn't a clean hit, but its not like he should be charged. Its the hitters responsibility to not hit a player in the head regardless of how he ducks, turns etc. It was also a charge.

There is also a rule that requires players to have their helmets done up properly. There's some irony for you. If one of the refs had noticed and put him in the box for 2 mins, he would have been saved. Best of luck Ben, but typical 16 year old, trying to look cool, with the loose strap. I can many equipment penalties being called for the remainder of the year.

you obviously missed the point in what i was saying. In hockey, do you need necessarily need to hit someone to score or defend? No you do not. In football, do you need to knock someone to defend or score? Yes you do. Now ask yourself, in relation to hockey, was it really necessary for that guy to get the shit knocked out of him? obviously not because it did nothing but delay the game.

FUCK YEAH you do. Checking that guy set the tone of the game. It shows that you are willing to hit. By making that hit later on in the game I will 100% guarantee that someone on the opposing team made a bad play for instance a bad pass because he was scared to get trainwrecked by a Erie Otter thats what that check did. Do not even try to argue that the hit that was made did not influence the outcome of the game. And if you do I will win the argument i can guarantee that as well.
