As a European, I find it odd that Americans use the term "liberal" to describe someone who advocates government expansion into business. Liberals advocate free trade, freedom to own private property and freedom of religion (ie liberty). These aren't inherently statist values.

To me at least, it would seem that liberalism is an ideology more instep with American constituional values than the conservative christian rhetoric expoused

As for the businesses, no one said they were without fault, they did this, and now they demand us to help them. Also don't forget that McCain warned congress about how forcing fannie mae and freddie mac to give loans to unqualified people is a bad idea back in 2005. He warned that ALL of this would happen. Yet, Reid, Dodd, and Frank ignored him(probably because they were lining their pockets with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac payoffs). And so who did America elect? The person who received the LARGEST amount of campaign donations from those 2 companies. Why are some Americans so blind and stupid???

Also, think about this. The government filtered 170 BILLION dollars through AIG to European banks, and American banks that already were bailed out(Bank of America, Wachovia, Citi). Maybe the 185 million in AIG bonuses were supposed to make us not notice
