I think most people are just nostalgic for the music of their youth and when the music was a bit less produced/played/mixed, etc. electronically. Technology is evolving so fast! And they don't give ANY credit to bands that get popular in just a few years despite the prevalence of skill (Tokio Hotel is a prime example of that.)

If you listen beyond the actual words, you'll hear that it's more about feeling inadequate to be saved. Not that they are not christians or that they don't want to be saved. Everyone has had a time when they feel like they're not good enough. This song just voices the same fear that everyone has, just not everyone can voice it. Jesus accepted everyone without judgement, and forgave all.. we should all learn that lesson.

I hardly had any friends in high school and I was miserable then, but the Elva album made me really happy whenever I listened to it.
Being saved from being miserable isn't going to matter when you're standing before God on your judgment day. The only thing that will matter at that point is whether or not you have forsaken your sins and put your trust in Jesus Christ in this life. Jesus is the only one who can save your soul from eternal punishment in Hell. That is the only saving that matters.

@TheBboySpartan I hate when christians see words like heaven,devil,angel,sin,god,evil,hell, etc. in songs and automatically assume that the writer is talking about the christian interperetation. Those concepts have been around for millenia before that and so could have countless meanings in songs. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling what is meant by the heaven and fun part is that "if you spend all your time doing time having fun doing drugs, etc. you won't end up in a place you want to be."

AA is whats up. i was an alcoholic and a heroin addict for too long. as i started working an honest AA program (get a sponsor, to to meetings, work the 12 steps), life turned around. AA doesnt require a belief in god as many people fail to realize, just a higher power of YOUR understanding. again, religion is for people who are scared of going to hell. spirituality is for those who have already been there.
AA might have helped you get over your drug addictions, but did it provide a new heart for you? Did it give you a new heart that hates lying, stealing, hatred, adultery and so on? I'm glad that you overcame your drug addictions, but just because you are not addicted to drugs anymore doesn't mean that you aren't still a slave to sin. Jesus is the only one who can actually free you in every aspect.

....in response to that, I will say this....first, I am not religious...I have simply repented (changed my mind from my sin), and decided to trust in and follow/obey Jesus with my life. Second, I obey and follow Jesus because I love Him...not because I'm afraid of the punishment if I don't. After coming to the understanding of the fact that I deserved Hell for my sins, but Jesus died to save me from Hell...I wanted to serve Jesus because of His selfless love for me on the cross.
I was addicted to meth and whatever pills I could get my hands on, and by the time I realized I was seriously hooked, I could see no way nor want out of the situation, so I wrote a letter to God, asking for help to quit these demons that had snuck up and taken over my life. Two days later I was hit by two cars, spent four months in the hospital, and came out clean of meth and the other drugs I'd been doing, but I was already getting hooked on the pain pills they'd given me...
My friend, I am so very sorry to hear that you are going through this! However, there is a cure for your addiction. That cure is Jesus Christ. You must come to a brokenness over your sins and cry out to Him to give you a new heart...I know a couple people who were drug addicts and did this very thing. They are now completely new people and their addictions are gone! This is the ONLY thing that will cure you from anything! Just repent, cry out to Jesus and beg for a new heart!

I had a very dear friend, a brother. I loved him... more than my mother, the one whose life was spent taking care of mine. One day, he told me our friendship was a game, that what I felt in my heart was a lie. So I left, naturally. But... he changed. He began drinking and driving, doing heavy drugs. He was kicked out of college... His father attempted suicide, and ignored it. He's so far gone... and I blame myself. If I had stayed, he wouldn't have fallen. Everything's my fault.
I used to listen to this song all the time when I was in high school. I was so incredibly depressed and didn't know how to get out of it....this song just fed that feeling.
Praise the Lord that He has saved me from that depression (among other things). I can now see things clearly and realize just how dangerous it is to listen to music like this.

@TheBboySpartan I hate when christians see words like heaven,devil,angel,sin,god,evil,hell, etc. in songs and automatically assume that the writer is talking about the christian interperetation. Those concepts have been around for millenia before that and so could have countless meanings in songs. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling what is meant by the heaven and fun part is that "if you spend all your time doing time having fun doing drugs, etc. you won't end up in a place you want to be."

AA is whats up. i was an alcoholic and a heroin addict for too long. as i started working an honest AA program (get a sponsor, to to meetings, work the 12 steps), life turned around. AA doesnt require a belief in god as many people fail to realize, just a higher power of YOUR understanding. again, religion is for people who are scared of going to hell. spirituality is for those who have already been there.

AA might have helped you get over your drug addictions, but did it provide a new heart for you? Did it give you a new heart that hates lying, stealing, hatred, adultery and so on? I'm glad that you overcame your drug addictions, but just because you are not addicted to drugs anymore doesn't mean that you aren't still a slave to sin. Jesus is the only one who can actually free you in every aspect.

....in response to that, I will say this....first, I am not religious...I have simply repented (changed my mind from my sin), and decided to trust in and follow/obey Jesus with my life. Second, I obey and follow Jesus because I love Him...not because I'm afraid of the punishment if I don't. After coming to the understanding of the fact that I deserved Hell for my sins, but Jesus died to save me from Hell...I wanted to serve Jesus because of His selfless love for me on the cross.

I was addicted to meth and whatever pills I could get my hands on, and by the time I realized I was seriously hooked, I could see no way nor want out of the situation, so I wrote a letter to God, asking for help to quit these demons that had snuck up and taken over my life. Two days later I was hit by two cars, spent four months in the hospital, and came out clean of meth and the other drugs I'd been doing, but I was already getting hooked on the pain pills they'd given me...

My friend, I am so very sorry to hear that you are going through this! However, there is a cure for your addiction. That cure is Jesus Christ. You must come to a brokenness over your sins and cry out to Him to give you a new heart...I know a couple people who were drug addicts and did this very thing. They are now completely new people and their addictions are gone! This is the ONLY thing that will cure you from anything! Just repent, cry out to Jesus and beg for a new heart!

I had a very dear friend, a brother. I loved him... more than my mother, the one whose life was spent taking care of mine. One day, he told me our friendship was a game, that what I felt in my heart was a lie. So I left, naturally. But... he changed. He began drinking and driving, doing heavy drugs. He was kicked out of college... His father attempted suicide, and ignored it. He's so far gone... and I blame myself. If I had stayed, he wouldn't have fallen. Everything's my fault.

I used to listen to this song all the time when I was in high school. I was so incredibly depressed and didn't know how to get out of it....this song just fed that feeling.
Praise the Lord that He has saved me from that depression (among other things). I can now see things clearly and realize just how dangerous it is to listen to music like this.
I love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with ALL my mind, heart, soul and strength now! Worshiping Him is what we were made for!
