I like your comment. The idea behind the paradox that is explained in this silly anecdote, is that a cake is lost by being consumed. That is, some fear that by doing what they should do, they might lose something ells. But basically you are right, why would anyone feel love and want to be with a certain person, if not to lose the other possibilities that might fail or succeed if he would be available? That is to lose the status of being single and available.

There's a lot of stuff missing from these clips that explain why Mani feels the way he does. All of the stuff with Jase and Fi has been cut out. If you saw it, you'd understand... Jase has been really horrible to Mani (though Mani is in love with him). He's promised to break with Fi a ton of times and he lied and told Jase that he and Fi had already broken up and then Jase found out about THAT like at the funeral.
