This was written by Steven Fromholz. Lovett merely recorded it to honor Steven, along with other Texas songwriters that he admired, such as Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt.
wonderful song! etherial, remember old songs of the great Legião Urbana(the vocalist was gay too) like "Eu Sei",looks for this here in youtube,my pretty bear friend!
I've seen a few of your videos and I just wanted to say that you are great :) I wish I had your confidence, not to mention the beard and the body (my body is coming along, but not there yet :)
Well my girlfriend showed my this video bout 3 days ago. It's friggin amazing! That boob bouncing in the beginning is so great haaha. Great style you have Mike. I wasn't sure if the whole leather vest and hat were just a joke at first or if you were serious. After reading the comments I see you are the real deal. Even a straight guy can get some laughs and smiles from this one! Although I think people are getting mad that I just keep singing the song over and over agin!
Howdy Ashius, thanks for the comment. Its not often I get evidence that a straight guy is actually getting some enjoyment from one of my vids. This really making my early early morning :o). I know the reply is late, but I"m very ADHD and sometimes it takes me a while to get around to doing things.
lol.. wasnt trying to insult you.. i'll tell you it was the last thing i was expecting! it was entertaining, and yeah, I can see how the Bears would love this song.
ah, I see lol.. well sorry if I was being sensitive LOL. If I see a vid I dont like I move along, but some people one this site are, well, short sighted and I've had to deal with a few guys ragging my vids today for some reason :D I've long wondered the seeming double meanings of this song. BTW, wasnt kidding about Chris lol. but I have to bite my tongue lol
Gay country singer Mark Weigle recorded his arrangement of this song for his "Out of the Loop" album several years ago, complete with a low "woof" in the intro. The Lyle Lovett version was included in the IMAX "Bears" documentary.
"Come On Down to Texas for a while" I mispelled his name, there is no "T" in "Fromholz", the T is for Texas, outside of which no one has heard of Steve.
I have the KCRW compilation where Lyle sings "Bears"
live in the studio some years ago. The credit for
the song on the record is "Steven Fromholtz", who wrote
"Bears" way back in 1974. Check it out. It may have been like a children's song about real bears in 1974, but it's a Steve Fromholtz song from Austin.
DAMN DUDE>. youare smoking HOT!. I would lick you from head to toe.. witout hesitation.. every nook and cranny!. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm love those perked up nipples too. WOOOOOOOF
Why thanks BF17! Thats very kind of you! I've maintained that I would sound pretty good IF a) you catch me on the right day, b) pick a song in my range, and c) use some decent sound recording equipment LOL
Actually, this song is by Steve Fromholtz, not Lyle Lovett. Lyle sang it on his album "Step Inside This House," but that was a 2-disk set of his favorite songs by OTHER songwriters. Just to clarify.
Yep. I think Lyle rocks but ya should give credit where credit is due. Btw, "Step Inside This House" is a fantastic album to hear some great songs written by some excellent song writers that just never got a whole lot of popular play.
You are right about that I do need to use my diaphragm more, but its not automatic and if I concentrate on that then I mess up the lyrics lol. I also am in an apt and recording on a tiny cam mic so I cant sing as loud as I'd like and I dont have a try mic to work. One of these days I might make one that sounds correct LOL btw I appreciate the constructive criticism. thanks!
@BostonBear
This is funny, but I have to ask: what made you do this?

Niederwaldflash 4 years ago
..and Mr. Fromholtz is a bit of a bear himself.
BostonBear is right in that the song is probably written in a multi-layer way so that lots of different types of bear fans can appreciate it.

Still thinking that you can Pull off sounding good - you've got the lyrics down cold, use your diaphram ( area under your rib cage a bit more.)
