Both are "phanotrons", thermionic diode valves that uses ionisation of gases and/or metallic vapours to increase the current that they can handle compared with high vacuum diodes. Main use of phanotrons especially mercury ones was as high voltage and high current rectifiers for BF and RF power amplifiers.
That has to be a very old tube yes? The filament is completely separate from the anode assembly. And the plate is literally a plate... How old is this tube?
