liers debate by referring the previous opinions of groups. Honest people look at how the situation is at the current time, and what the demand from both sides is at the current time.
I am pro-Israel AND pro-Palestine. Crazy, I know. Psychotic Zionists and psychotic anti-Israel individuals need to stop dehumanizing each other. It's absolutely ridiculous. Both men here make good arguments. Both "sides" have legitimate claims. What the fuck has happened to being moderate and reasonable??? Shalom and Salaam aleikum.
Its funny how Alan talks about sensible solutions and then argues that various parts of a Palestinian state could be connected via a hi-tech rail line - that would presumably cut through Israeli territory, but not actually stop there.
You can literally tell every time Dershowitz tells an OUTRAGEOUS LIE because the Harvard crowd starts cracking up because of how ridiculously shameless Dershorag is in his brazen dishonesty.
Chomsky in part 5 - "I think its very relevant to understand history if u want to undertstand the present". So why is the Peel Commission of 1936-1937 not relevant??? Because Chomsky's apparent bias won't let it be.
It is relevant to understand history if we want to understand the present. Having said that, the history has to be relevant to the present issue at hand that we happen to be discussing. For example, I don't suppose that you'd cite the Lehi and Irgun Massacre of Palestinians at Deir Yassin when talking about the present proposal, despite it having an effect on the Palestinians attitude of Israel.
@digitechguy The question posed to Chomsky was in regard to the relevance of '48 for both sides. His response was "I think its very relevant to understand history if u want to undertstand the present". Hence my comment.
No. He merely said that it's important to understand the past to properly understand the present. Dwelling on the past, on the other hand, is not something that Chomsky ever emphasized, which is exactly what Dershowitz is doing when he brings up Peel Commission. This is where my point came in, which is, if you want to be consistent in dwelling on the past, then you have to grant the Palestinians that same right, by dwelling on things like the Deir Yassin Massacre, which is irrelevant.
Just like I expected, everything Dershowitz says is substantive and to the point. Chomsky, as ever, is the intolerable obscurantist.
Here's something to consider. Israel has a history of successful military campaigns against the Arabs. We haven't seen any genocides. All we have seen is a few thousand people killed (mostly because terrorists hide behind civilians). The Palestinians supported Hitler in WW2 and tried to bring the Holocaust to Israel. If they manage to win next time...
Here's something you should consider, there are historical events that you're conveniently ignoring. Therefore, you are stating a one sided view of the set of events that transpired within the last century between Jews and Palestinians, the other side of which is the enormous and outnumbered atrocities committed by Israelis against the Palestinians. If you would like me to list some of them, I'd be glad to, although I see no need, considering that you can easily find them yourself.
What both of these professors are missing is that the mandate for Palestine included Jordan, so that should be included, and a three state solution should be proposed, 1/3 to Jordan, 1/3 to palestinians and 1/3 to Israel.
This sick fuck Alan is the one who got the MOSSAD agents that where arrested on 911 deported! HUNG for HIGH TREASON.
Sivan Kurzberg, the others are identified as Paul Kurzberg (Sivan’s brother), Oded Ellner, Omer Marmari, and Yaron Shmuel Five Israelis are arrested for “puzzling behavior” The men where seen celebrating the attacks before they occured. The “Urban Moving Systems” moving van was searched by “bomb-sniffing dogs reacted as if they had detected explosives.
If YOUTUBE founders only knew how this platform will be misused for spreading lies, defame and libel against the Jews, reconstructing the protocols of the elders of Zion, there would be no YOUTUBE.
@bonfirejovi Really? I would think quite the opposite. At the end of this video Dershowitz's point is absolutely terrible. Dershowitz: "When thousands of people have been killed by terrorism you don't expect a country to go back to a proposal that was offered and rejected many years earlier. Options change when rejectionism sets in." I mean what kind of reply is that? Maybe you wouldn't expect them to- what you expect them to do really doesn't matter. What matters: what's the JUST thing to do?
There is no such thing as an Ashkenazi Jewish state. They simply through treaties, rhetoric, and relying on the "holocaust card" seem to justify stolen land and pummeling the Palestinians. They don't need a homeland they have New York!
This is complete nonsense. If you take a liar er lawyers word for this over a well researched, intelligent brimming with integrity Chomsky. Who remains calm amid the evil staged storm of Dershowitz-it's a no brainer.

Chomsky just carps from the side, Dershowitz lived and was involved with the history. Chomsky can say whatever he wants because the people who support him do not care about facts or what he says, just that Chomsky validates hatred of Israel and does not say anything bad about Palestinians.
Look at the attacks here on Dershowitz ... NONE of them are based on what he says, they are just name calling. This is pure anti-Semitic crap, that Chomsky is apparently fine being part of.
@justgivemethetruth Not true at all. If you read "Fateful Triangle," he constantly refers to PLO attacks as terrorism, and does not hesitate to vilify them for their killings. You probably never read a thing written by Chomsky.
As a viewer, it's interesting to pay attention to the beaviour of both. :Dershowitz, nervious, speaking in a hight tone, Chomsky, keeping quite and speaking with a same low voice. And it goes on with the arguments quality of both : Dershowitz using is skills as a layer trying to convince a city court audience and Chomsky talking only and constantly about history facts, facts and facts again.

@enguerranddemarigny Something else that's interesting to pay attention to are all the comments of "kike" and "Jew" directed at Dershowitz for his support of Israel, when it's completely overlooked that the Pro-Palestinian Chomsky is also a Jew (and also Pro-Israel).
Dershowitz understands the world as it *is*. Chomsky has never been outside his little academic bubble, and so has no understanding of how things work in the real world. He only sees things through the prism of articles written by other left wing academics and so he doesn't *get* reality. You see it again and again in this debate that Chomsky just can't get his head around the idea that solutions have to be workable on the ground rather than acceptable to left wing academics.
@DavidUK84 Actually, it seems you can't get your head around the fact that Israel will not agree to a solution because no solution which gives Israel land, control of water etc. would ever even be proposed, let alone accepted by the Palestinians. So instead, Israel continues breaking international law and taking what it wants by force.
He is a scared little kid wanting to win solely on his belief system... system of lies (which usually works for him (Alan).
He uses passion and angst as well as anger to make his point.... Like an angry mother. Chomsky is level headed, calm and factual backed. Like an honest mother - not being outstripped of her power resorting to backbiting tactics.
Dershowitz is a lying whore, Finkelstein has destroyed him. Carter is a hero on this. These chicken shit Israeli cowards cage in helpless civilians like sardines in Gaza and the West Bank and then kill them and feel tough. Dropping white phosphorous on children and then crying "terrorism". Without US backing, they would get their asses kicked as they have throughout history. Israel brought terrorism to the middle east first (Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi). Real Jews have nothing to do with Zionism.
Dershowitz reminds me of one of those guys on the street who gamble for finding the coin under a cup. He'll distract, confuse and antagonise to avoid saying anything of any substance or revealing his position.
I am asking fellow Greens this. Should we come out as a party and demand that Obama take BP into conservatorship/recievership? I think this would really be something many progressives would agree with. Please let me know what you think. Good Idea bad idea indifferent? Maybe I could start a FB page for it. Go Green Party!
@bths87 When the US / RUSSIA / JAPAN was attacked they didn't wait 8 years like israel did, they imediately responded with heavy ammunition which took hunders and thousands of innocent lives. did someone critize them? of course not...because they had the right to defend themselves. well so do we!
IDF actually called pepole before bombings to warn them to stay
clear from those areas, what country did such as thing?!
and it's not our fault that HAMAS is hiding under human shields.
chomsky doesnt seem to understand that israel is the superpower and the palestinians are the ones in need of a state, they are in no place the shrink israel.
Long Live Dershowitz! Chomsky, you are a schmok, who capitalises on alleged Jewish roots only when you wish to attack Israel /Jews & respect Muslim terrorists like Hezbollah & Hamas. I do not believe you are a Jew, as no Jew would have acted in such a dishonest, irrational & anti-Israeli /semitic way. Israel will not forget nor forgive you! You act & sound like freak. Please expell yourself out of the USA & move to Gaza, Syria, Lebanon or Iran, where you will feel at home.
Dershowitz is a lawyer, but that doesn't mean that he can summon a well-supported argument. He relies on rhetoric where Chomsky is constantly citing sources, international bodies, and international courts. Dershowitz is undoubtedly a skilled speaker, but its plain to see that he is trying to ride a dying horse.
@sh0tglass It is an actual fact that the Palestinian Arab leadership had an all or nothing approach in 1948, probably based on their confidence that with a 2-1 population and the support of other Arab nations that they could not lose. How is that not an argument? Surprise, they lost and now that the military option has been stripped from them they find a sudden interest in the law. This is like the South declaring a unilateral truce in 1865 and retaining their borders and slavery.
@James2010May There was no organized Palestinian leadership in '48, any competent student of history knows that. In '48 the Hagana (early IDF) along with the Stern Gang were rounding up Palestinian villages and massacring innocent people they deemed to be a threat. You can read more about these "unofficial" details in Illan Pappe's Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. Read those key words again: ETHNIC CLEANSING.
@James2010May Its strange that you say that because there was no Palestinian leadership. Palestinians were not a state, nor did they really have a government of any kind.
@sh0tglass I realise your post is over 1 year old and that perhaps now you'd recant on your view :)
I don't understand why you say Derschowitz "relies on rhetoric where Chomsky..". He's constantly references his information, he refers to the Peel proposal, the 48 2-state solution, he says he was directly involved in UN Res. 242. So what are you talking about?
@geofreyr I consider myself to be pro-Israeli, hence that is why I oppose the occupation and I support a just resolution to the Occupation. Dershowitz openly admits that the Palestinians faced the offer of a "non-contiguous" state, without any real sovereignty. Dershowitz ignores these absurdities and claims that Chomsky's sources are inadmissible because they are in Hebrew, and that Chomsky is also a liar. This is a simple element of rhetoric; attack the person, not the argument.
@sh0tglass Yes I agree with you there about the present occupation of territories like the West bank, but I don't agree with you about your assertions of "ethnic cleansing". Martin Gilbert, in his History of Israel, writes a detailed account around this period and though the book does list some atrocities committed by the Hagana this was under strict control by the Labour Zionists at that time, such as Chaim Wiseman and Ben-Gurion, and they didn't tolerate such aggressive tactics.
@sh0tglass continued: The stern gang, as you've mentioned, and the Irgun, however, did use aggressive tactics against Arabs, though they were always condemned by those *official* Labour Zionist leaders. Furthermore, it states that aggression was on both sides and often-times initiated by the Arabs whom constantly opposed Jewish emigration and statehood, so in this regard, I think you're wrong.
@geofreyr the Stern gang and Irgun were both paramilitary offshoots of the Hagana, a force organized by Ben-Gurion and his pals. During the 1948 ethnic cleansing of Palestine, the Hagana along with the Stern gang and Irgun rounded up and executed Palestinian villagers based on prepared intelligence. This is all in Ilan Pappe's Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, where more Arab sources are used. The book by Martin Gilbert is authored by an openly pro-Israeli man who used only Israeli sources.
@sh0tglass It's irrelevant to the argument that some information is based on a particular source, it's the content and its validity that's important.
You infer Mr Gilbert's material is biased based on things like it being taken from Israeli sources yet righteously proclaim how much more valid Llan Pappe's material is after noting that it is based on "Arab sources" - if anything's biased, it's that! lol.
@geofreyr they were condemned, but never stopped because they were quietly supported. Why do you think these paramilitaries were later integrated into the Hagana? Anyway, I think this is all past history. The key relevant question at hand in this debate is the 67 borders; Dershowitz presents a laughable plan "conceded" to the Palestinians while Chomsky consistently points out the Israeli injustice.
is dershowitz serious? becuz arabs rejected the plan in 1937 they're not gonna offer it again?Ilan Pappe shows how ben gurion was just playing games-he made outlandish proposals hoping the arabs wud reject & be branded as jew haters& when a plan he put forth WAS eventually accpted by all parties, he backed out-it was a game for him-read pappe's book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, he gives ample citations for all claims, and not just from Isreali Defense League like dershowitz does.
37' , 48',00-01 how many times would you like israel to keep offering?
it's not monopoly, it's very difficult politically, and the continuous rejections just show us how plain simple the situation is - the palestinian's leadership is not interested.
that's not the cause of this conflict, maybe you should ask yourself the following question : is the palestinian leadership acknowlege the legitimecy of Israel to exist as a jewish state? the answer is, unfortunately, no.
the israelis don want peace-why do you think the recent gaza massacre took place? Read what Goldstone wrote about it. Read the Goldstone report. Oh wait I forgot brainwashed zionists like you only trust private investigations done by the IDF.
@bths87I'm an israeli, trust me, no one wants war here, I personally have two brothers that are warrioirs in the IDF, why would I want them to risk their lives? why would mothers and fathers want their children's lives and their owns? of course Israel wants peace! you ignorant..and I'm sure the palestainens as well...it's their leadership the doesn't. their leadership IS A TERROR ORGINIZATION for crying out loud. btw, look who was in the comitee of Goldstone report, of course it was biast.
Goldstone-biased? the guy is a Jew who believes strongly in Israel's right to exist who also served on committees overseeing massacres in Rawanda and Yugoslavia-but why when he writes a report on Israel's massacre of Gazans is he now attacked? Yes palestinians have also committed acts of terrorism & these r also in his report. I'm sure israelis want peace but the israeli government is constantly breaking international law & killing innocent civilians-y don u address that u hypocrite?
if you listened just a little bit to dershowitz, he explains it way better than I do.
but I'm not even talking about him, I'm talking about pepole who didn't believe in Israel's right to exist even before they were asked to participate...there are at least three of them that I know of.
and the original request for this report specifically asked for the report to focus on Israel's "crimes".
No other country would have been able to act better.
@bths87 When the US / RUSSIA / JAPAN was attacked they didn't wait 8 years like israel did, they imediately responded with heavy ammunition which took hunders and thousands of innocent lives. did someone critize them? of course not...because they had the right to defend themselves. well so do we!

At the end of 1987 and first quarter of 1988 Sadam Hussein launched a state organized 6 months gas attack on the Iraqi Kurdish population. The world knew, and didn't do anything. We Israelis do not have the luxury of loosing a war, because we will be exterminated. Israel is the only place on earth that is our home by history. The holocaust proved us Jews that without a home of our own - we'll be killed. We do not want the faith of the Kurdish - we want to live.
Obviously, the academics will solve nothing. Starting with the first question, they cannot quite keep to the rules set. I do agree with Dershowitz about 1948 but that does not make the 60 years of Israeli expansions justifiable...if the UN had any balls, it would send a babysitting force there and take the sovereignty from both, like toys from kids. But then, I am a dreamer and am forgetting about the 400 nukes, IDF has :)))
He is an idiot. He knows nothing about International Law. He is very sick mentally. He is stuck mentally in his adolescence . He is a vicious Jew hater and Israel hater because his parents are dead. I hope he joins them very soon.
it's unsettling that a man as brilliant as Dershowitz is an ideologue. Chomsky is the "avatar" of the enlightenment movement. he is the most reasonable, rational, and pragmatic intellectual in the US. he presents facts unobscured and renders valid arguments and sound conclusions.
Dershowitz is using the childish approach: "well in 1948 Palestine blah blah...". As if that's justification for acts of war 60 years later. A man as intelligent as Dershowitz should understand that 2 WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT.
I don't think I'm the one that sounds stupid here. Besides, text comments do not emit the molecular disturbances that comprise sound. Israel continues to transgress the borders that were delineated in the 1948 agreement. This agreemented was unfair towards the Palestinians residents. Israel continues to occupy regions that are not a legitimate part of the 1948 UN agreement. That being said, the issue is far more complex than you would like it to be. Perhaps you lack the intelligence to grasp it?
"Our race is the Master Race. We are divine gods on this planet. We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us as our slaves." - Israeli prime Minister Menachem Begin
So if someone takes something by force that means it belongs to them? In that case Palestinians have every right to use force to reclaim their territory, so don't complain about terrorism.
i hope my comment didn't come off as indirectly offensive to Palestinians or Muslims. i think islam is beautiful too. the chomsky debate was focused on Israeli Jews, so I only intended to address the Jewish people in my comment. . last thing i'd want to do is insult Palestinians or Islam.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Chomsky the opposite of reasonable and rational. He is the lowest form of a sick ,mentally ill traitor because he subconsciously or consciously hates Israel because he never got over his hatred of his parents.
israel occupies palestinian land. condemned by UN resolutions!but israel does not care about international law! israel leaved a little piece of land, cut in thausend of parts by illegal settlements, to the palestinians. they ask the pasletinian to negotiate, and accept the occupation. the israeli government and their lobby try to make us believe, here in the west, that the israelis are good buddies, and the palestinians the evil islamic terrorists.
Bottom line is Isreal is the big dog in the kennel, they should act like it instead of self-victimizing and therefor demoniozing Palestine, they got the best special ops in the world or close to it, more money than palestine, the non-country, will ever hope to possess, not to mention connection to the United States who hate Islam about as much as jews do. I do feel kinda sorry for Dersh though, looks like a goof but he's just following orders, everybody knows the realdeal
not sure what sweetdissent is telling me "No" about, never said the us didn't export war, just highlighting the fact that Isreal seems like alot of trouble for a pretty crumby place to live, SD you're obviously backing Palestine, me to. not sure what you mean by "peace loving west", we are in agreement on that front aswell, never said the u.s. loved peace, said it was "peacefull" to live: Dersh/the FED/ROCKAFELLER/JPMORGAN/Rothchild and the skulls and bones secret government won't let Isreal go!
Most Jews live outside Israel where they do very well indeed. Fastest growth of Jewish population? Right in the middle of the former Nazi heartland -Berlin. Who's at the highest levers of power in US gov, finance, academia, jurisprudence, science, entertainment...?exactly.
Where Israel was once deemed necessary as a Jewish refuge from world anti-Semitism, it has long since become an ego/sunk costs religio/nostalgic military vanity albatross around its own and the worlds neck.
the UN really fucked up when they sent every JEW they could find to the MIDDLE EAST. Why the hell would jews even want to live in Isreal, its hot, sandy, dirty like the rest of the hemisphere - don't be a plug and call me racist for saying that the middle east is a less attractive, less comfortable place to live than the north, we can all agree on that. I'd rather move my family to north America or western Europe, they got it going on - no domestic wars for starters, no desserts for second man
easy tiger, by rattled I mean he was fucking rattled, screamin his ass off while Chompsky smiles at him, what a puss
If you still think Dersh brought his A Game watch it again and read some of these comments. you don't really need to regergatate what dersh said in your comment to me. Alan D should switch to decaf, How come he's emotional like a woman? Chompsky never even raised his voice let alone attacked the guy - damn.
(the minority of people do look what Noam says up, so should Dersh.)
Whoa horsie, he was not screaming because he was rattled, it was an "earth to chomsky, come in chomsky" moment to exorcise him from his own ignorance and irrationality. Chomsky is a bore to begin with, with that dreary monotone voice of his, filled with empty rhetoric and his disdain for anything contrary to his own ideology. Why pay attention to demeanor instead of focusing on substance? Chomsky had neither. Therefore he's 0 for 2 here in this debate.
You must have Chomsky confused with Dershowitz, cant4get. For it is Dershowitz who is full of empty rhetoric and irrational claims, while Chomsky is merely stating facts and citing the historical record. He's not a showman like Dershowitz; he's not there to entertain you, sorry.
they're both citing the historical record; their interpretations are where they differ. i agree dershowitz is more theatrical, but his arguments are no more irrational, less factual, or valid than chomsky's.
Dershowitz is citing no historical anything; he's incapable of it. He has cited a conversation he had with Bill Clinton, and in his fraud of a book, cited "Lord Carrington" or some such fantasy, instead of Lord Caradon. You seriously need help if you think Dershowitz is being rational in this debate. Put the wall on wheels? Are you serious? Chomsky has made no irrational argument throughout the entire debate. Geez, why are people so jealous of Chomsky's prowess? Just admire it; don't hate.
Chomsky makes his remarks clear for anyone who knows very little about the conflict.....Dershowitz hides in his abbreviations/terms/slogans.....ie' no compromises/no recogintion /no peace.
What is that? Is that a threat? I hope you KNOW the Palestinians in the West Bank, and in Gaza, are all too aware of what it feels like to live in utter catastrophe; imposed on them by the IDF and Israeli government, lo these many decades; while the IDF and the government, and all of Israel's supporters (Oh, I mean their ONE supporter; the U.S.) hope for their peace process solutuion: that Palestinians would simply "cease to exist." Thanks to U.S. weapons and Israel hate, it's happening.
Of course it's not a threat. It's a fact. One state would be an utter catastrophe, for all involved. Whether through violence or simply through a failed state, the one-state solution will be sure to dash the dreams of Israelis and Palestinians alike.
What are you talking about? Israel continues to reject UN Resolution 242, and the two state solution, along with the U.S., and has for over 30 years, while the entire rest of the world, and the Palestinians accept it. Israel's occupation is ILLEGAL, and the UN, and the International Court of Justice, have said so. I don't know why you are bringing up a one-state solution.
You can keep trying to make Israel out to be some force of evil, but an occupation is an occupation. While I think Israel should do everything in its power to end it safely and create a viable Palestinian state, you can't expect life under occupation to be a good time. I think its relatively bearable; more emphasis should be placed on creating the state than deploring the condition they're in.
The Palestinians are in the condition they're in DUE TO the illegal occupation by Israel. You can't ignore that; that is the crime. But I'm glad we agree that Israel should do everything in its power to end the conflict safely and create a viable Palestinian state. Instead, Israel has rejected peace and international law, as well as the international consensus on 242, for over 30 years. And the illegal occupation and illegal settlements continue.
How is the occupation illegal? Was Israel supposed to pull out and let chaos or Jordan take over the West Bank? There needs to be a secure state before Israel starts pulling out of anything. However, I do agree that the settlements were and are an obstacle to peace, but I don't see why their freeze should be a precondition. The sooner a deal is reached, the sooner they are frozen forever.
You don't know what you are talking about if you don't know the occupation is illegal. May I suggest you actually view this debate under which we make our comments? May I suggest you read something other than Israeli propaganda, and actually try and learn something? I won't hold my breath for that to happen, but I am through conversing with someone who refuses to even learn before he offers ignorant comments. Goodbye.
dershowitz is ratttttttlllleeddd - quelle surprise, what a passionate, emotional, proud, patriotic dude. Watch the rest of this Noam puts him awaaay hahahaha
Are you kidding? What video are you watching? dershowitz was not rattled, it was Chomsky who was unable to respond to providing empirical evidence. Chomsky always proclaim to have evidence by offering it verbally on all of his lectures and then encourage people to look it up knowing full well that majority of people will not. He is indeed living in "planet chomsky". He should stick with linguistics and stop pretending to have acute comprehension of the geopolitical world.
The criminal Netanyahu is bullying right now europeans bringing up again the holocaust story. Bulshiting Americans and bullying Europeans that how Israel gets his power.
75 % of jews are Ashkenazi jews who are east european converted to judaism with absolutly no genetic relation to Palestine.
25 % are Sefarad jews who are arab jews who mainly refuse the existance of Israel as a 'jews only state'.
The criminal Netanyahu is Ashkenaz from Lithuania , none of his ancesters have ever even been to Palestine before his father landed there as an invader. Same for Lieberman who is from Moldova.
the majority of original jews were have converted to christianity.

If they manage to win next time...
jda555 1 year ago 2
@jda555

Dershowitz understands the world as it *is*. Chomsky has never been outside his little academic bubble, and so has no understanding of how things work in the real world. He only sees things through the prism of articles written by other left wing academics and so he doesn't *get* reality. You see it again and again in this debate that Chomsky just can't get his head around the idea that solutions have to be workable on the ground rather than acceptable to left wing academics.
DavidUK84 1 year ago
@DavidUK84 Actually, it seems you can't get your head around the fact that Israel will not agree to a solution because no solution which gives Israel land, control of water etc. would ever even be proposed, let alone accepted by the Palestinians. So instead, Israel continues breaking international law and taking what it wants by force.

sh0tglass 1 year ago 93
@sh0tglass It is an actual fact that the Palestinian Arab leadership had an all or nothing approach in 1948, probably based on their confidence that with a 2-1 population and the support of other Arab nations that they could not lose. How is that not an argument? Surprise, they lost and now that the military option has been stripped from them they find a sudden interest in the law. This is like the South declaring a unilateral truce in 1865 and retaining their borders and slavery.
James2010May 1 year ago

sh0tglass 6 months ago
@James2010May There was no organized Palestinian leadership in '48, any competent student of history knows that. In '48 the Hagana (early IDF) along with the Stern Gang were rounding up Palestinian villages and massacring innocent people they deemed to be a threat. You can read more about these "unofficial" details in Illan Pappe's Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. Read those key words again: ETHNIC CLEANSING.
sh0tglass 6 months ago
@James2010May Its strange that you say that because there was no Palestinian leadership. Palestinians were not a state, nor did they really have a government of any kind.
sh0tglass 1 month ago
@sh0tglass I realise your post is over 1 year old and that perhaps now you'd recant on your view :)
I don't understand why you say Derschowitz "relies on rhetoric where Chomsky..". He's constantly references his information, he refers to the Peel proposal, the 48 2-state solution, he says he was directly involved in UN Res. 242. So what are you talking about?
geofreyr 4 months ago
@geofreyr I consider myself to be pro-Israeli, hence that is why I oppose the occupation and I support a just resolution to the Occupation. Dershowitz openly admits that the Palestinians faced the offer of a "non-contiguous" state, without any real sovereignty. Dershowitz ignores these absurdities and claims that Chomsky's sources are inadmissible because they are in Hebrew, and that Chomsky is also a liar. This is a simple element of rhetoric; attack the person, not the argument.
sh0tglass 1 month ago
@sh0tglass Yes I agree with you there about the present occupation of territories like the West bank, but I don't agree with you about your assertions of "ethnic cleansing". Martin Gilbert, in his History of Israel, writes a detailed account around this period and though the book does list some atrocities committed by the Hagana this was under strict control by the Labour Zionists at that time, such as Chaim Wiseman and Ben-Gurion, and they didn't tolerate such aggressive tactics.
geofreyr 1 month ago
@sh0tglass continued: The stern gang, as you've mentioned, and the Irgun, however, did use aggressive tactics against Arabs, though they were always condemned by those *official* Labour Zionist leaders. Furthermore, it states that aggression was on both sides and often-times initiated by the Arabs whom constantly opposed Jewish emigration and statehood, so in this regard, I think you're wrong.
geofreyr 1 month ago
@geofreyr the Stern gang and Irgun were both paramilitary offshoots of the Hagana, a force organized by Ben-Gurion and his pals. During the 1948 ethnic cleansing of Palestine, the Hagana along with the Stern gang and Irgun rounded up and executed Palestinian villagers based on prepared intelligence. This is all in Ilan Pappe's Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, where more Arab sources are used. The book by Martin Gilbert is authored by an openly pro-Israeli man who used only Israeli sources.
sh0tglass 1 month ago
@sh0tglass It's irrelevant to the argument that some information is based on a particular source, it's the content and its validity that's important.
You infer Mr Gilbert's material is biased based on things like it being taken from Israeli sources yet righteously proclaim how much more valid Llan Pappe's material is after noting that it is based on "Arab sources" - if anything's biased, it's that! lol.
geofreyr 1 month ago
@sh0tglass Have you read Martin Gilbert's book?
geofreyr 1 month ago
@geofreyr they were condemned, but never stopped because they were quietly supported. Why do you think these paramilitaries were later integrated into the Hagana? Anyway, I think this is all past history. The key relevant question at hand in this debate is the 67 borders; Dershowitz presents a laughable plan "conceded" to the Palestinians while Chomsky consistently points out the Israeli injustice.
sh0tglass 1 month ago
is dershowitz serious? becuz arabs rejected the plan in 1937 they're not gonna offer it again?Ilan Pappe shows how ben gurion was just playing games-he made outlandish proposals hoping the arabs wud reject & be branded as jew haters& when a plan he put forth WAS eventually accpted by all parties, he backed out-it was a game for him-read pappe's book The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, he gives ample citations for all claims, and not just from Isreali Defense League like dershowitz does.

it's not monopoly, it's very difficult politically, and the continuous rejections just show us how plain simple the situation is - the palestinian's leadership is not interested.
that's not the cause of this conflict, maybe you should ask yourself the following question : is the palestinian leadership acknowlege the legitimecy of Israel to exist as a jewish state? the answer is, unfortunately, no.

Dershowitz is citing no historical anything; he's incapable of it. You seriously need help if you think Dershowitz is being rational in this debate. Put the wall on wheels? Are you serious? Chomsky has made no irrational argument throughout the entire debate. Geez, why are people so jealous of Chomsky's prowess? Just admire it; don't hate.

Chomsky makes his remarks clear for anyone who knows very little about the conflict.....Dershowitz hides in his abbreviations/terms/slogans.....ie' no compromises/no recogintion /no peace.

hope you're ready for utter catastrophe
thenotoriousSAMMYRAP 2 years ago
What is that? Is that a threat? I hope you KNOW the Palestinians in the West Bank, and in Gaza, are all too aware of what it feels like to live in utter catastrophe; imposed on them by the IDF and Israeli government, lo these many decades; while the IDF and the government, and all of Israel's supporters (Oh, I mean their ONE supporter; the U.S.) hope for their peace process solutuion: that Palestinians would simply "cease to exist." Thanks to U.S. weapons and Israel hate, it's happening.
SweetDissident 2 years ago
Of course it's not a threat. It's a fact. One state would be an utter catastrophe, for all involved. Whether through violence or simply through a failed state, the one-state solution will be sure to dash the dreams of Israelis and Palestinians alike.
thenotoriousSAMMYRAP 2 years ago
What are you talking about? Israel continues to reject UN Resolution 242, and the two state solution, along with the U.S., and has for over 30 years, while the entire rest of the world, and the Palestinians accept it. Israel's occupation is ILLEGAL, and the UN, and the International Court of Justice, have said so. I don't know why you are bringing up a one-state solution.
SweetDissident 2 years ago
You can keep trying to make Israel out to be some force of evil, but an occupation is an occupation. While I think Israel should do everything in its power to end it safely and create a viable Palestinian state, you can't expect life under occupation to be a good time. I think its relatively bearable; more emphasis should be placed on creating the state than deploring the condition they're in.
thenotoriousSAMMYRAP 2 years ago
The Palestinians are in the condition they're in DUE TO the illegal occupation by Israel. You can't ignore that; that is the crime. But I'm glad we agree that Israel should do everything in its power to end the conflict safely and create a viable Palestinian state. Instead, Israel has rejected peace and international law, as well as the international consensus on 242, for over 30 years. And the illegal occupation and illegal settlements continue.
SweetDissident 2 years ago
How is the occupation illegal? Was Israel supposed to pull out and let chaos or Jordan take over the West Bank? There needs to be a secure state before Israel starts pulling out of anything. However, I do agree that the settlements were and are an obstacle to peace, but I don't see why their freeze should be a precondition. The sooner a deal is reached, the sooner they are frozen forever.
Or let 'em become part of Palestine, why not?
thenotoriousSAMMYRAP 2 years ago
