@Da1shocker There's nothing you can do in terms of getting your PS3 to run imported PSX or PS2 games. You'd have to either run it on your computer through an emulator, or get modded PSX or PS2 or get a japanese PSX or PS2.
Holy sh--! That game looks SICK! I've just been watching a load of old Macross clips from back in my youth on here and wondered if there was a game. I've got an old 60GB PS3 so I'll have a look on eBay for this and hopefully it'll work! Classic Japanese shoot-em up style. Great post! :D
I'm impressed with the seemingly solid frame rate, and it looks like this game could easily play like Ace Combat when you're in fighter mode. But what about the game's length and mission variety? I love Macross, but would this be worth an import?
@SoftBank47 It's not that long a game, and there isn't much of bonus features. Just a free mission mode where you can choose your own VF. The game isn't THAT long. You could probably beat it in one day. Missions are usually "destroy" stuff, but they are missions for the TV series. Like you'd recognize each mission. Well most of them. Some are missions that take place at the same time as another mission in the show. It is definitely worth importing for fans of Macross. Best Macross Game.
@SoftBank47 I know this is 10 months late but I thought I tell you that it is worth the import, in my opinion, you get two story modes, Macross and Robotech stories, each just as long as each other, I think Robotech has more levels though, but also what keeps you playing it is the unlocking of different ships you can pilot in mission select aswell.
I think you got about 8 levels for the Macross saga and 10 for the Robotech saga, I think, it has been long since I've played it.

@fireballstardraco Input's always appreciated. General consensus about this game seems to be that this is mostly for fans of Macross/Robotech (yes, Japan treats them as two different series).
@kamilskaz I haven't tried Macross Trial Frontier yet. I can't afford to import a movie just for the game (since I'm not fluent in japanese.) If the movie came with english subtitles then I'd definitely get it. I hope "trial frontier" is their way of a demo and then they could release a full version of the game. I'd definitely get that even if that doesn't have english subtitles.
That's true, but the thing I didn't like about the Frontier games is that the Gerwalk in those games do not control like the gerwalk in the anime. Like you can't fly backwards UNLESS you're boosting. And you couldn't fly backwards and vertical (up OR down) at the same time. I don't mind the not being able to fire missiles in battleroid mode in this game since it gave each mode it's own abilities, however I do wish you could melee.
I think this is where they got the gameplay idea for the the PSP version Ace of Frontier and Ultimate Frontier, but unlike Frontier this game doesn't utilize the melee system where u could melee your opponents u have to shoot missles and the gun and switch between them in battleroid mode in Frontier u could do both the same time instead switching between.
When I played this game I was impressed how they kept the original sounds and music, it was a real joy to play.
But it was awesome to see your performance in this video, it was amazing, it was like watching some parts of the anime, specially when you transformed on those ships and shot them at 1:18, that was classic, great flying :).
Dude, the actual graphics, meaning the low-poly models, are terrible, but HOWEVER, the shaders and awesome animations for the game are incredible and they compensate for it.THe gameplay, oh let's not forget how awesome it is..
@Helldiver450 I thought the graphics were ok for PS2. By no means are they AWESOME like Zone of the Enders 2, but it did the job I think. And yeah, the gameplay is awesome hahah. I still think this is the best Macross game. I wish they would make a game like this for PS3 or something but with a co-op campaign that goes through every Macross series, online matches, loads of different mechs to use etc. That would make my day.
Yeah, too bad huh? I'm hoping they'll make a Macross game for PS3 with the same kind of controls as this game, though perhaps make it even better. Give some extra content such as vs and co-op (I mean come on, Skull SQUADRON doesn't consist of 1 pilot, I'm sure they can have co-op throughout the game.) and make it that you have less health that in this game cause in this game you were like a god in terms of health.
@axelivanhernandez its not Macross' fault.its harmony gold's fault. They pretty much can block anything Macross from coming to the states. They did that so everyone could see robotech.
@axelivanhernandez don't blame the japanese, blame the USA for not wanting to import these games because they think it won't selling too well in the states. Instead, USA want games like tony hawk, spiderman, grand theft auto, madden, nba, halo, and, well you know, boring games.
Yeah it does, but in my opinion if you want a more authentic feel for the Valkyries this game is better. ACE's Valkyries didn't feel very Valkyrie like the way they were controlled, though ACE is still an awesome game.
umm... not really. Like sometimes you see your wingmen fly by and fire a few rounds of from their gunpod but I've never seen them actually kill anything.
Yeah, at first I didn't notice at all cause there's so much radio chatter and stuff, but after a while I'm like "hey" why are the only swarms of missiles coming from me and the enemy. Where's my backup?
You know I could of remebered that in battlecry the allies were somewhat helpful in sense or atleast they helped(Well that is all for now.I Go back to highschool in my secound week.I'm a freshman ;)
I only remember Hiroshi firing, I don't really remember Izzy firing anything. I just remember the mission where you have to fight off Kiyora and protect Izzy. Fun mission but annoying that Izzy had to get shot down and you have to protect her.
@rubedokukai an interesting point regarding the functionality of the wingmen in this game.
On a VERY small handful of occasions (maybe four) after many, many hours of playing, I've actually seen them HIT a target with the gun pod burst on a fly-by, and in one unique instance, it did result in a kill (against a Fighter Pod I'd already damaged during an earlier pass).
So, they actually do help, but I'd compare it to an ant helping a mining company move dirt around.
Yeah, it can pretty much do anything you want it to do. The only one complaint I have is that in missions where there is gravity, the gerwalk and battleroid modes want to re-center itself. So if you roll either of the modes and then let it go, it'll just level out again. That's just a small complaint since you don't really "need" to roll to finish the game, but it does look cool if you can pull off these crazy manuevers.
Oh boy, amen at the accuracy comment. I just won't stop tapping for the infamous Macross Missile Barrage (tm).
I love this game. This and Omega Boost are some of my personal favourites! Crazy lock-on madness. And the Valkyrie design is just way too damn sweet. (Gerwalk mode 'skating' on the ground and firing missiles is plain amazing)
Last thing, I love the sounds (that machinegun fire) and music taken from the series!
so miss want to watch Macross again on TV.....
