I'm glad they changed it back. I really didn't like the drop down bar. It was was too 'in yer face' with it flashing up, taking too much space, with it's 'here I am - click here' attitude. It seems many others didn't like it too. When the drop down bar was introduced, I made google.com my home page, as that kept the bar along the top. The top bar is now a little bigger, but that's ok.

The new bar was just a cursor hover away and compacted everything neatly and with icons. It was actually smartly designed from UI perspective. Let us choose to have it.

This bar is horrible. I was defaulted to it a while back. In short, it takes longer to navigate. To see something, then click it is faster than to pull up a menu, then click it. It's why we have icons on our desktop. It's why there is a toolbar in almost all programs that have buttons you need to click often. It's already annoying enough that google docs isn't a part of the black bar, and I have to click the more button, or navigate to gmail, then press the docs button.

This new bar is so terrible. Calendar isn't even in the drop down menu, you have to make multiple clicks to get to it. Scholar and Finance are 3 clicks away. This bar wastes my time and it is super annoying!

The only other opposition towards the new bar is due to the integration of google+. People dislike google+ for 2 reasons: [1] It was a rip-off from facebook, and [2] facebook is dead, so it can be seen how there is opposition to google+. I really don't like how when you mouse over the Google logo, that a HUGE menu comes up that obscures the submenu that you really want to navigate to. I was deleting them to fix my Google Instant - it wasn't working for my local Google domain ... ;)

I liked the old (current) top bar, but this is great as well (nothing wrong with drop-down menus in usability side, in contrary, they are better in many ways!) . But please Google, re-organiaze the awesome Google search left panel... Allow me to hide it and move those special filters to top. Like search timeline, image sizes and types and so on. Those should be own action buttons. What I really would love is to click a search result and have a "search related data".
