  • My dad is about as big of a Neil Peart fan as you are...the only drummer he cares about is Peart, but I pay attention to more than just Neil Peart...Mike Portnoy, Dave Lombardo, Vinnie Paul, Phil Collins, Joey Jordison, Scott Travis, Tim Yeung, Tommy Lee...

  • Why wouldn't you want to touch it? It's not like he signed it or anything!

  • hit the fuckin thing, will ya

  • useless video....

  • pEARt

  • hi ray i just got a r-30 edge snare for 1100 brand new in the box on e-bay i have a dunnett snare release yours looks like the new deta ball release i have a black on silver badge and your's is silver on gold I have called into DW to find out if my snare is single unit or one of the ones with complete set love the videos been ,myself playing on and off for 50 yrs ,just saw rush here in md april 22 loveed it keep up the hard work it is paying off in the videos , good work drummie

  • Please sell that snare to me! I´m serious. // Jimmie

  • hahaahahaahahahahahahahah!!! CC Audio Transcribtion WINS!!! xD

  • I want the rush logo on my drums you luckey bastard

  • ash pendjo

  • play the drum and stop babbling.....

  • That is how you pronounce peart.

  • hahaha nice ending

  • that thing looks fucking nice..I bet it sounds better.

  • esse gordoo000000ooooooo só fala e nao faz bosta nenhuma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What an IDIOT.Let`s hear that piece of Garb.

  • DW Edge snares are the best!

  • BEAUTYBEAUTYBEAUTYBEAUTYBEAUTY...

  • Oh God is P-EAR-T not pert

  • CRAP!!!

  • this was the most useless cyberpollution ive seen for a long time. Thank you very much for uploading. now everyone knows what a wonderful dude with a wonderful snare you are. gratulations

  • you fucker!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The thing that puts me off the Edge snares is the weight.... So heavy. Good to have for recording, but as a gigging snare I think I'm happy to stick with my N&C or one of my Sonor drums.

  • I heard an interview years ago where Neil himself says "It's not Pert, Part or Pahrt (like the fruit, pear, with a "T"), it's pronounced PEERT".

  • I'll buy your set yo

  • I have a tattoo of that snare on my right arm. I left out the rush emblem, but we traced from a photo on the net..

  • That's sooooo hot.

  • do want

  • He pronounced correctly dummies

  • thats so sick!

  • ive watched your videos amazing, play iron man

  • how much??

  • @donnyfox123 I paid $850 + taX @ Dale's Drum Shop in Harrisburg, PA (I live in Allentown, PA-about 1 hr's drive away). Dale's is a 5-Star Drum Shop. You'll see it listed in the 5-Star ads in Modern Drummer, DRUM!, & DrumHead magaZines.

  • Last thing...LOL! The Neil Peart DW Edge Model snare drum, as w/ any DW Edge model is, obviously, a high-vloume snare, HOWEVER, it is capable of the ut-most sensitivity. Ghost notes, grace notes, press rolls, rim clicks, buZZ rolls, swiss flams & all of the snare techniques that require a snare w/ sensitivity come through crystal-clear. Out of the 32 snare drums (that # includes the Peart Edge), DW's NP 30th Ani Edge is the only main 14" snare that I've used for over 2 years now. & Ray great job

  • I wanted to say that, along w/ my earlier post, this snare is beautiful LOOKING, as well. 24k plated hardware adorns the drum. DW's own black 'Mirra Sparkle' lacqured finish is stunning & is also the primary color of Neil's infamous 30th Ani Kit! The StarMan in Silver-Leaf graphic is the cherry on the cake! It's the mark of Rush & Neil! Although the Edge snare that Neil played throughout the "R30" Tour had more Rush graphics, this was a great choice to put only this 1 on the marketed drum.

  • The DW Edge snare IS probably the best snare that I've used as well. The miX of the tonal quality of a maple snare w/ the brass rings to accenuate the "crack" of a metal shell drum...the miX is awesome & the only snare that I use now out of all the different snares that I've collected over 18 years. I own the Peart 30th Anniversary snare as well.

  • umm are you going to test it out?

  • OMG THATS A SEXY SNARE DRUM!!!

  • "mispronunciation" in the tags... love it! haha. I still say "pert" and not "peert" though. Guess I'm just stubborn! XD

  • can you play iron tusk or aqua dementia by mastodon

  • how about playing the freaking drum??

  • I WANT THAT SNARE!!!

  • It's possibly the best snare drum on Neil Peart's planet aswell.

  • 1:30 your face!

"Santa came and left this 4 me"

    lol

  • Head choice and tuning can make a huge difference to how individual drums will sound.

  • somebody help please bfore its too late...i like my snare tight but the more i tighted it i heard an overtone so i took off the top head and in the inner part i putted duct tape with cotton and i tuned it REALLY TIGHT..it sounds great but IS THAT BAD FOR THE SNARE??

  • @victor57099 that sounds dirty hahah

  • Hey I got last row in the first section at marcus I cant wait

  • That's one majestic snare drum :D. I just bought myself a Pearl Reference, might not be as good as that one, but I still love it.

  • @Ubben1999 I would say a Pearl Reference IS as good as this one! It's just a matter of personal preference at that point

  • @rays2112 a Pearl Reference snare is better then that snare. I'd like to have an MCX Snare instead, those things are awesome

  • @Ubben1999 Pearl will always trump DW. i myself rock a pearl masterworks and i wouldnt even trade that kit for 10 DW drumkits

  • I'm really glad you're happy with that snare, I truly am, I'm not being sarcastic. But man, that is the ugliest snare I've ever laid eyes on, it looks like a '70's cadillac crashed into Elvis. Different strokes I suppose.

  • @kaferere Lol! that's pretty funny dude...But man, I strongly disagree (obviously!)

  • @rays2112 yea me to hes just jelous its very pretty

  • @kaferere LOL!

  • Rush is going on tour this summer we got the third show in millwaukee marcus Ampethieter featuring moving pictures in its entirety

  • @MEDLI123 Awesome! I've got tickets for the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA 12th row!! cant wait!

  • @MEDLI123 got my tickets for ATL on SEP. 22nd

  • Your a great drummer, you deserve this snare..

  • its beautiful but u gotta use it. ;) the perks and downer to bein a drunmmer. Gotta use it tho its too pretty not to.

  • Oh, I use it! ....A LOT!

  • nice choice

  • the snare retails for around 4000 dollars

  • It actually retails for $1700....I paid half of that for this drum

  • are you like a doctor cause all da stuff u have is hella expensive.

  • look at his other vids y would he sell tht drum set tht thing is sexy

  • how much did it cost?

  • now when it has neil peart in the label you already know its expinsive. but when its a snare its bout a couple hundred dollars

  • It is Pyrt. Not prt. He has books talking about it and just look up Neil peart hockey theme song, it says it there also.

  • pfft DW edge try out some Ludwig Supra Phonic snares or my favorite the Ludwig super sensetive they'll blow all them DW snares away ;p sweet snare though dude !

  • I'm getting a Ludwig 402 supra phonic snare next

  • Then didnt he say it right?

  • is his named pronounced PART or PEE-RT?

  • @atomikfzr1

    Neil himself says PEE-RT

  • @atomikfzr1 pert

  • I have a 14X6 Edge w/ Gold hardware too!

    Sounds amazing.

  • I was waiting for 1.43 min to hear the snare's sounds.. Good speach anyway!!

  • Check out any of my other videos to hear this snare

  • Gorgeous snare and awesome rush starman. What size is the snare? Looks like a deep snare. Is there any wood on it? perhaps you answered this...good luck with the new set. I purchase one once for my jazz band when I taught and competed middle school. I spent more time on the cymbals than anything and a custom snare special wood.

  • Hi, it's a 6 x 14 and the shell is a combination of wood and brass

  • Ray! You rock!

And yes, I have a request - The Analog Kid

  • FYI you mispronounced Peart wrong.

  • FYI you used a double negative so you just said he pronounced it correctly.

  • haha complete grammar ownage..

  • Lol, owned

I thought it was pronounced like that when I first read it :S

  • Your kidding right?

  • it sounds right to me

  • I agree. I have a 12" DW Edge and it's an overachiever. Along with the Ludwig supra 402 and slingerland radio king it's in my trifecta of best snares.

  • Nice! Real nice! My next drum is a 402

  • I have a Rush bootleg (it's a live performance called Red Barchetta) where Geddy introduces Neil and pronounces his name "Peeyirt" -- kinda like the word "pierce" but with a T sound instead of the "S" sound. I always thought it was pronounced "Pert" (like the shampoo as someone noted) until I heard that on the bootleg. I've never heard it explained by anyone in the know like Neil or someone in the band.

  • I've heard Neil Peart himself say "Hi, I'm Neil "Peeyirt."

  • tee hee

  • @hogs46 um no

  • wait... so it's not pronounced "Pert?"

  • @ptc5010 Perts a shampoo XD

  • Oh right, yeah. I know it's "Peart." But it's pronounced "pert" right?

  • No it's Peert....rhymes with "ear"

  • @rays2112 wtf!!! what!!! in all the interview ive seen with him. they always say "pert"!

  • No its prounced peert

  • @ptc5010 this whole time ive been saying it "pert" as well

  • i want hear it´s sound, not only watch it

  • that is a sweet looking snare !

  • what head do you have on?

  • Does Max Weinberg use a DW Edge snare. It's Killer!

  • alah,. mamer aj si botak,. hahahhahaha

  • I have a 13x7 edge snare... it's amazing! Also remember: DW drums are available 40-45% off list price, so they are actually less in many cases than other quality snares.

  • he should try failed creation by devine heresy :drummer Tim Yeung

  • I think DW stuff is really overpriced for it's lack of being that much better than the competition.

  • could u play green grass and high tides on a cover

if u do it send it to me thanx

  • i have one and it's a killer

  • Request: How about breaking down the ending riffs on Limelight the way you do in the 4 note groupings? Thanks.

  • Will you do the trees?

  • Hey today I got to play a snakes and arrows snare it was cooler when I first saw it I almosted fainted

  • where can you get that

  • dude, were did you get that and how much was it?????

  • Very nice drum. I thought at that price and model, DW would've used cast hoops instead of triple flanged

  • same.... it's sad that for that money the used flanged hoops.

  • I own a DW 6x14 bronze snare drum that

Is, to my opinion the best sounding snare

that I've heard. But I admit that the edge

    is quite a killer snare.

  • that is one pretty drum

  • Try a Noble & Cooley snare drum. That is an excellent snare drum!

  • i want one of those but there so expensive so i think im gonna go with a ludwig

  • FINALLY!! Someone gets it!

  • I have alot of snare heads at home, but

i cant afford to buy that snare....:(

  • I bought a white/gold one on ebay for $900. But I have to be honest, my Kaman Legend sounds more cutting and 'alive' - better both live and in the studio. Neil uses a different one now, the bastard - Vertical Low Timbre (VLT) - after everyone bought the anniversary one.

  • LOL! yep, he got the VLT one right after I bought this one!...And honestly, I've heard the new one and I like it better than this one! Oh well, guess I'll have to get that one too...eventually. What size and depth is your Kaman?

  • It's 14x5.5, and sounds sparkly, - like Tom Lang's Sonor in his 1st vid. Same head on 5 years now - Remo CS - and still sensitive with no duck-tape. Have Chad Smith too, which can sound Bonzo-ish if you tune right: low.

But the DW Edge is an awesome drum in the true sense of the word, but it doesn't go the extra yard as it should do for that price.

The DW 23" BD is a great idea. I'd love an 11" tom too.

Great drumming btw mate! I've an unhealthy obsession with Neil too. Takes one to know one!

  • haha your video currently has 69 ratings

  • Nothing will ever replace Neil Pearts #1 snare thats still in his arsenal. You can hear this monster on Tom sawyer from moving pictures. Its the old solid maple slingerland artist snare from the 60`s. I have the DW Edge snare and Its a beautiful drum.

  • how did that cost?

  • This is the most beautiful drum I've ever seen...

  • you pronounced it fine dude...

  • No, it's Peart, as in "Peert", not Pert

  • Geddy and alex pronounce it "Pert", but whatever.

  • Oh my god! What snare!.. stupend

  • ....i wish i have a small dw kit,but i might have to sell my ass to get dw snare,so forget about the kit

  • That ending rocked lol

  • lol Thanks man! No one has ever mentioned that ending...It's supposed to be Borat-ish

  • it is

  • you rock

  • Thanks man!

  • what heads does peart use on it live?

  • Good old Remo ambassadors...usually the ones made for DW

  • you should try "The Analog Kid" ans also do you use the paragon cymbals?I was thinking about getting those rather then keep buying zildjians

  • Hm.. wow, I always thought it was "pert" but I guess it's not. Yeah, Gretsch is awesome. I'm playing it as a 4 piece now with the 10 and 14 toms. It's amazing how much a smaller kit makes me more creative.

  • I think that's how you pronounce Peart. I know Rolling Stone and some other sources say it's said like "Peert" but I don't think it is.

  • Well, I always pronounced it "Pert" until I Got all these comments on this video saying that wast the correct pronunciation. So I researched! and sure enough I found it's pronounced "Peert" On my favorites theres a video titled "Drum Channel Launch Promo" and Neil himself says: Hi! Neil "Peert" here, and welcome to the drum channel. Anyway, you still playing the Gretch kit?

  • i want to get the new snakes and arrows snare VLT looks soo sweet

  • Peart uses this model for indoor and VLT 6.5 x 14 Wood for outdoor. You must be strong that drum IS HEAVY !! And nice drumming on your videos!

  • this snare looks AWESOME!

    keep up your work!!

sorry for my bad english. :)

    greetz from germany!

    anyway, KEEP IT UP!!!

  • i wonder how upset ud be if u broke the head or the shell

  • That looks beautiful

  • the more snares and toms i think the better just dont overdo it

  • thats fucking intense it looks so awesome

  • DUDE...THATS SO SWEEETTT!!!!

  • ahh i couldent play that, i wouldent be able to do rim shots on it id be afraid id scratch the hoops, nice snare tho

  • if thats not how your pronounce peart, then how do you ??

  • PEE - EART .

  • I HAVE A QUESTION

What is the difference between a piccolo and a jungle snare.

I am going to use one of them as my left side snare

  • Hello, I NEED HELP

I have a DW snare, and I was replacing by bottom head. I removed my snares, and replaced it. I tried putting them on, and I turned the throw off switch on. Unfortunately, I forced it to go on, and a piece which fed the nylon strap and had a big, short rod, and a slightly taller rod that was thin came out. I tried fixing that, but the snares just won't come up like they used to. If you could reply to this it would be great.

    Thanks for your time!

  • Congrads man, I've gotten to play on an Edge at my local drum shop and yeah, what an amazing sounding snare.

I'm always tempted to get a DW snare, but I've got a 6.4x14 black beauty and the thought of parting with it kills me.

Looking foward to new vids and good luck on the new kit.

  • Don`t part!! Buy an additional!! I have six snares at the moment..

  • Oh I won't part with this.

  • that is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i've been saying peart as in shirt for years dw about it :D

  • Yeah, people are obsessed with correcting me on that! lol (and I thought I was a Neil fanatic!)

  • I must say Ray, that is a sweet snare!!

  • so proud of your new snare yet can't pronounce his name right? strange. nice snare tho

  • Thanks...so you didn't see all the comments already correcting my pronunciation?

  • so you paid like $700? for that? when you can buy the same snare with out "neil peart" on it for like...couple hundred less....hmm well if you got the money..i guess

  • Yeah, but I like the gold hardware, the black mirra finish, and since I CAN'T afford a whole kit in that finish I got the snare drum...PLUS, did you not notice I'm kind of a Neil Peart fan? lol

  • Brilliant vid mate.

    That is a beautiful drum.

I first heard it and straight away thought it was the perfect rock snare!.

    I enjoy ur music vids.

Ive actually just made my own youtube music channel (this one) lol

hope you enhoy it, as much as ive enjoyed yours.

    big fan!

    Steve

  • No worries, yeah it's ridiculously heavy! 18 lbs! It's like lifting a computer tower.

  • Peart rhymes with NEAR... not with SHIRT

  • yeah, so I've heard!

  • Zup man. Dude you are really really good and you have amazing drums. I have a question but its a little bit curious one. What kind of job do you have? I want DW drums so bad, but my wage is just way too low to get those amazing drums. Thanks and I repeat man you are an amazing drummer.

  • I have a very average job (and a mortgage and child support!) But I wont get into that...I'm a bargain shopper, I bought the new DW drum set (the 22"bass drum, 10"tom, 12"tom, 14"tom) Used at the Guitar Center for only $1500.00! The 8"tom is from my old DW FinishPly set, which I stripped down and refinished to match the new set. This snare drum was bought on eBay for $899.00. The 16"tom I had to special order, and that was expensive. ANYWAY, check out eBay you can get lucky and find a good deal.

  • Also, see if your music store will give you any deals (tell them your thinking of buying online!) and look for used equipment as well.

  • Can you please do some Metallica covers
